“Great hotel in the heart of great city”
Reviewed September 20, 2012

a perfect hotel in the middle of the great city. I would either stay on the top floor or the 1st floor so you can just walk up the stairs to your room or have easy access to the roof. Staff are nice and breakfast is abundant.

Room Tip: Don't worry about a view. streets get loud at night so interior is fine.

Lecce is a stunningly beautiful city and the location of the Risorgimento is perfect...right across the street from the pedestrian-only old town. It was a bit tricky to find even with a GPS due to the zona limitato areas...no cars allowed. We finally pulled up to the front of the hotel and our car was parked for us.
The staff is very friendly and very helpful and knowledgeable.
Our well-designed room was immaculate and very functional. The turn-down service was an extra treat. Bathroom equally excellent with both shower and tub. Toiletries were high quality. Our room overlooked the street and amphitheater but was very quiet. Breakfast was delightful as well....many choices with regional specialties and hard boiled eggs ( I think eggs to order may have been possible) with a very competent staff in attendance.
We do not usually opt for a business hotel but this was an excellent choice.
It was peculiar to us however that wi-fi was only available in the lobby...somewhat of an inconvenience.
Our pre-trip e-mails were quickly answered example: best route between Reggio Calabria and Lecce) and our inquiries were remembered upon arrival.
With one exception ( name will not be mentioned) the staff was lovely.

I thoroughly enjoyed my three nights at the Risorgimento Resort, Lecce.

The Risorgimento Resort enjoys a very central location in the historic centre of Lecce, so making it easy to return to the hotel during the heat of the day for a cool off.

The staff are extremely helpful and courteous. I arrived well before the check-in time. Because my assigned room was not ready, I was swapped into another room so that I could access it straight away.

The room was large, with an excellent bathroom and was regularly serviced. WiFi and a safe were available. The hotel's Roof Garden is an excellent location to sit and relax and provides interesting views of the city. Breakfast is very good with a large variety of food on offer.

Maria, Isabel, Rosaria and all the staff go out of their way to make one’s stay comfortable and enjoyable. As a small example of this, I was seen reading a certain newspaper in one of the public areas and the next morning I found a copy of that day’s newspaper outside my room. Maria arranged transfers to and from Brindisi airport through a firm called Crusi Viaggi and these worked well. I was supplied with maps, leaflets and train timetables.

Lecce itself is a wonderful place to visit, with an enormous variety of fine things to see including churches, piazzas, balconies, the Roman amphitheatre and theatre, the castle, museums, etc. Although somewhat outside the historic centre, the Museo Provinciale is full of beautiful Greek and Roman artefacts.

I strongly recommend a visit to Lecce based at the Risorgimento Resort.

I am giving this rating a four only because the hotel markets itself as a 5 star hotel, but they must have a misconception of what a 5 star hotel is nowadays. Having said that, this is the best 4 star hotel in Apulia. If you plan to be in the southern Apulia, this is the place to stay at. Hotel is about as centrally located as you can get. It is beautifully designed, very clean, well maintained. The staff is extremely helpful and even helped us find English speaking guides just a week before our visit. Maria was terrific and always with a smile and helpful info about Lecce and great restaurants nearby. They are lucky to have someone like that work for their hotel.
Breakfast was wonderful, with plenty of choices for food and drink. Valet Parking was free, which was a huge surprise to me. Room was cleaned on time and was immaculate.
The hotel does not have a pool or sun deck. Most people who stay here, either stay in the room or go out, as we barely saw anyone in the lobby or the bar. Wifi only works in their lobby and only right in front of the reception desk. They do have a computer set up for customers' use. Overall, a great hotel, but they do need to be accurate as to the rating.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the ancient amphitheater. Quiet a view.

We have just completed an 8 night stay there-far,far too long. Perhaps the most important thing to note right off though is just how excellent and informative the staff are: everyone we dealt with were professional, informative and friendly. They are as good as any I have met in many decades of travel.
Other positives include the great location- just off the main Piazza- and beside the wonderful Santa Croce. If you rent a car (and if you are staying for more than a few days you will need to) the hotel will park it for you at what seems to be at their own expense.Simply drop they keys off at reception or at the main door and they will do the rest.Be advised though Lecce Old Town has a horrible one way system so be careful.
Breakfast is a terrific spread of fruit ,cheese ,local breads and pastries.
We dined on the roof terrace once and had a bad experience;the food was really poor. But the maitre d' could not have been more helpful and refused to charge us for anything, including the wine we had drunk.I am more than happy to beive that we were unlucky.Talking of food ,seek out the restaurants that specialise in Puglian food which is wonderful, especially if you are a vegetarian.
Now the downside: this is never a 5 star hotel or even close. We upgraded to a de-luxe room which was no more than a standard 4 star standard without tea or coffee facilities(a strange omission this).Quite what the standard room is like I can't imagine.
The so called fitness centre is minute and is composed of a running machine,a stationery bike and a small multi gym. Again far from 5 star.
There is no pool nor an area for sunbathing for that matter. The Turkish bath has to be booked in advance ;it is not freely available .But is fine as far as it goes.
The ground-floor bar was never manned during our stay and we never saw anyone having a drink which is a real shame because a good bar gives an hotel real atmosphere.
The wi-fi only works in the reception are and not in the room unless you have 3 G.
This is a good hotel there is no doubt about that ,not least because the staff are superb. The facilities are limited and the design quality is absolutely not 5 star.
Finally,if you are trevelling around don't miss Otranto and Gallipoli on the Ionian coast and go to the tip of the 'boot',the town of Santa Maria de Leucca. If are staying for more than a few days rent a car,Lecce is a delight especially at night when the buildings are lit up,but you can cover what needs to be seen in two days or so.
Finally,we paid far too much per night .If I were doing it again I'd ask for an upgrade to 'executive'.
Hope this helps.

We stayed here for 2 nights - July 26th and 27th - halfway through our 2 and a half wk Puglia hol - taking recommendation from fellow posters. Thank you all! Staff were so friendly and helpful - starting on (nearly!) arrival - our sat nav tried to get us to go the wrong way along the street where the hotel was situated. We parked and I walked to hotel where the doorman walked back with me and reversed the car the whole way to the hotel! No problem! Everything was great - room, bathroom, robes, breakfast, rooftop bar where we enjoyed cocktails before going out for dinner and - a treat - complimentary hour blocked off for my husband and myself in the Turkish bath downstairs! Well done to all!

Using this deluxe modern city hotel as a hub for a beach vacation in Salento seems a perfect idea because one can enjoy a variety of beaches on both coasts and Leuca and come back to a sophisticated luxury hotel with hundreds of restaurants and bars to stroll to nearby. The hotel is really hard to believe as it is just feet away from Roman and Greek amphitheaters in the middle of one of the most beautiful cities of the world.

The fourth floor garden rooms are like staying at the BelAir Hotel in Los Angeles and steps away from their glamourous terrace restaurant for a romantic dinner overlooking the Baroque city.

No need to suffer in some "quaint" old hotel or rental. This is the life!
