I loved Hotel Lavagnese. The hotel is located 5 minutes from the train station, and is an easy, flat walk down the main road. Lavagna itself is a small town by the water. We paid 65EU for a double room with bathroom. And there were only Italians staying there!
The best thing about staying in Lavagna is that it's really easy to get to Portofino (10min train to Santa Margarita,10min bus to into Portofino) without having to stay in an overpriced, extra touristy area. Good luck finding a room around Portofino for less than 80EU a night.
The hotel is closed from 3pm -5pm, so you cannot check in during this time, however once you have your room key you can let yourself in and out freely.
Room was cosy, spotless, and modern.
The hotel is also a restaurant on the ground floor, serving lunch and dinner. The food is delicious, and reasonably priced. Salads are about 8EU, pastas are 8-10EU and seconds are about 10-15EU. I highly recommend the mixed seafood spaghetti, it was FANTASTIC.
Breakfast is included in the price and is a generous self service with leftover homemade bread (from the restaurant), cheese, ham, spreads (nutella, jams), a variety of cereals, fruit, different juices, leftover cakes (from the restaurant), crackers, and they also make you a tea/coffee of your choice.
Free Wifi in the common areas of the bar/restaurant.
The owners are very friendly, and speak a little English. They closed up the restaurant and left us in there alone on our laptop, no problems!
I would definitely stay here again if we were in the area!
