Just got back from lake iseo whilst there we checked out what trip advisors best restaurant choice was. we found out where the castello restaurant was and checked out the menu. Our first vist, yes there was 2 visits in a 6 day stay!, we found our selves in a lovely room with a pit fire sort of stove burning away it was really lovely but phew we thought we were going to roast and then they led us to our table in the garden, which was lovely as the night was quite close, it was lovely to sit there as darkness fell with a glass of wine - heaven. The food was very good we tried the pasta with fish sauce from the lake the pasta with truffle, the mixed fish starter was a favourite with my husband my favourite was the puddings the second time we went there we had one each and one to share - such piggys but hey ho we were on holiday. The shared dish was ice cream - nothing special aout ice cream you may say but .....the walnut icecream was put into the walnut shell same with fig etc and they were carefully sealed up so you couldnt see the join it was so pretty you didn't want to spoil it by eating it, well that that thought and the ice cream lasted 2 seconds!

The wine was good as well and was v reasonable 12 euros a bottle - I had the red which was good .
All in all it deserved its no 1 slot. Oh and the cost of the meal was not that much more than some of the other restaurants we had been too,

In a quiet setting in Iseo , Al Castello is very much a family resturant and away from the crowded centre...well worth searching for

My boyfriend and I stayed in Iseo for one night in July 2012. I chose this restaurant as it was the top restaurant on Trip Advisor and I was not disappointed.

We popped into the restuarant early evening to make a reservation for later. They could only fit us it at 9:45pm, which was not a problem as we'd had a late lunch.

When we returned that evening, we were led to a table on the outside patio, which must have only sat 20-30 people. The inside seating wasn't being used at all - I assume that is saved for when the weather is colder. It was a beautful and intimate setting - the tables were nicely spaced and it did not feel at all crowded.

We both had a primo (first, pasta course) and secondo. The courses were nicely sized so it was possible to have both (I have been to many Italian restaurants where the primo is a hefty meal in itself, and it's impossible to manage another course afterwards). I had smoked tuna ravioli for primo, and my other half had fish taglioni. For secondo I had salmon in orange sauce, and my boyfriend had a selection of three fish different fish fillets - both were served with creamy mash potato. For dessert my boyfriend had tiramisu, which was not traditional tiramisu but a combination of sponge, custard and strawberries (he was a bit disappointed by this but that's his own fault for not reading the menu properly - I thought it was delicious!).

All the dishes were beautfully cooked with really simple and delicate tastes. I think the smoked tuna ravioli is one of the best things I have ever tasted. To accompany them, we had a bottle of white wine (the wine of the week) and mineral water.

Total cost came to just under 70 euros - for two courses each, one dessert, a bottle of wine and a bottle of mineral water. I thought this was excellent value considering the quality of the food, the setting, and the lovely service.
