Just what you'd expect from a nicely maintained, well priced hotel - good welcome, nice air conditioned room with decent bathroom, and great view!
Be sure to organise parking when you book if needed, as spaces are limited.

Great stay at this beach front hotel, service was second to none. Fabulous sea and marina views from our room and balcony. Would definitely recommend.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with sea view & balcony - worth the extra!

This is a super hotel opposite the beach. The staff are wonderful and friendly. Buffet breakfast was good. Good family rooms with large balcony, with minimal view to port and ocean. (room 211). Other rooms have views directly on to beach. Walking distance to plenty of restaurants and bars. They have 39 rooms and only 10 parkng places. So if arriving by car make sure you book a parking spot.

The hotel is in an excellent location next to the marina and within walking distance of an amazing choice of restaurants and bars. Unfortunately the hotel restaurant was closed when we stayed there so we had to eat out during the evenings. A continental breakfast was served in the light and airy restaurant overlooking the sea.
Our bedroom and bathroom were spotlessly clean and overlooked the beach and sea.
The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the sea to enjoy the wonderful view.

We stumnbled upon this hotel without a prior booking and were very pleasantly surprised. We paid €100 for one night with a sea view which we thought was very reasonable. We could park outside (although we had to pay), the breakfast was fine, reception were very pleasant and the room was clean. We opened our window at night time and were soothed to sleep by the lapping of the wabes. So all in all no complaints and good value, and a good 3* hotel, next to beach and resaurants. The only negative if we had to say, would be that we had to close the window early in the morning becuase the traffic was quite loud.

My husband & I have stayed at the Croce di Malta twice in 2004 & 2005...both times for 7 nights. We are going back in 2006, but to a different hotel. Why? Only because the shower size is about 3 feet x
3 feet....a corner stall in the bathroom. Very small, the curtain hits you body as you cannot turn around. We sightsee from morning to dinner-time & like to relax with a nice hot shower before retiring. Most hotels have the shower in the tub, but not our room. We had a balconey overlooking a pool that was never filled. Loud music from club nearby. The rooms are nice & will push beds together if you want(matrimoniale). The staff is very helpful. It is a 3 minute walk to the main rail station (Santa Maria Novella). We took days trips to Venice, Bologna, Cinque Terre. Breakfast is ok, nothing special. Restaurant is run by a fat man who flirts with the girls while we sit & wait for service.
Both stays we paid about $230.00(US) too much for this property.

We stayed here one night in February 2005 during a tour of the area. The hotel is just across the road from the seafront, where there's a sand beach that looked quite good. Given the season, the only people on there were people walking their dogs and a few local surfers riding 18-inch waves.

There's private parking outside the hotel at €5/night, but we just parked on the road, 20 yards away, for free. Inside, the hotel is pretty much a standard Italian modern design - nothing inspirational, but clean and functional. The rooms were the same - we took the larger room at €84, which had a 5sq.m. balcony overlooking the road/beach (balconies either side are seperated by frosted glass). The beds were a bit soft/old, but the rooms were reasonably clean. Soap, etc. were the standard cheapo hotel-branded fare.

The ladies on reception were efficient and politely friendly, but perhaps looking forward to finishing their shift. Breakfast was again, OK, all the standard stuff.

Overall, if you need a place to stay, then Croce di Malta is exactly that. It's probably best suited for families on a beach holiday, during peak season. If you're single or couples looking for something with character, charm, friendliness, etc, then try elsewhere first.
