Our room was clean, large, and had a nice balcony with chairs to sunbake on. One of the air conditioners didn't work very well, which was unfortunate since it was very humid.

Also, the pool on the roof is really small.

Staff were friendly and helpful.

Internet access was extremely limited (one PC in the lobby, no WiFi).

Great location.

We stayed here in June and were so impressed with the Hotel and its staff that we booked 7 rooms and returned with friends.

Without exception all of us were very impressed with the spaciousness , cleanliness, and superb central location --10 minutes walk to the old town ,2 beaches , Port , Marina and shops, bars and restaurants. Every room is a suite that could sleep 4 adults if required ,the Balconies in the superior rooms are huge [ 50 or 60 sq metres] ,the largest of any hotel we have stayed in.

Facilities are very good , pool , bar , free bikes and of note a supervised childrens playroom [ we went with our Son ,wife Grand-Daughter in June]. We have various Italian friends in and near Grado and they all rate this hotel highly.

The highlight ...the staff !! Vania and team at reception , the Breakfast waitresses , the Bar staff ,the cleaners. As a team the best I have ever encountered and unfortunately for me I have to use Hotels alot on business .

I just hope this review doesn't contribute to the Hotel being full for when I return !

I spent a week with my family at the Fonzari for a beach holiday. It is OK, but I doubt that we will return. On the positive side the rooms are well equipped with excellent aircon and modern furniture. There is also a mini kitchen in the room with a fridge and cooker, however it is not much use as their are no utensils, plates etc - just two glasses. The fridge was handy.

It does not really look over the sea being set back from the sea front, but in fairness it is hard to get much closer to the beach in Grado.

We went for half-board but found the dinners very disappointing and not to the standard of the hotel. On reflection this was probably because they were too cheap. There is a wide variety of restaurants close by and you can always eat a la carte at the hotel.

Service was very limited. When we checked in nobody offered to take our bags to the room and this proved to be an almighty struggle with only one elevator working. Similarly I expected some help with booking places at the beach but was merely advised (incorrectly) that I should report to the beach office at 8 am on Sunday.

Service in the hotel bar was hopeless. We gave up afrer waiting over twenty minutes for our drinks (and we were the only customers)!

Breakfast is OK. The staff are friendly and keep things moving

One final grouse was the incredible noise coming from the transformer room of the hotel next door which made the otherwise very nice balcony useless. This is obviously not the fault of the Fonzari and the noise was not audible within the room due to the good sound insulation.

I stayed at the Hotel Fonzari for 3 months during the summer of 2006 (I was attending alanguage school) and very much enjoyed it. The staff were always helpful and very kind. The rooms were large and very clean (almost a bit too sterile) and the beds were very comfotable. The hotel is situated on the edge of the historic centre and convenient to all parts of Grado. Bicycles were made available to guests free of charge (if you were early enough to get one!).

The only (small) downside was that even though the suite I was in was equipped with a small kitchen, the burners had been disabled and sealed off. Normally this would not be an issue but a self-cooked meal now and again would have made things a bit more pleasant.

I highly reccomend this hotel as a comfortable, clean and very pleasant place to stay while in Grado. (as an aside, my favorite restaurants in Grado were "Al Canevon", "Gli Artisti", and "Tavernetta All'Androna" )

This hotel is ideal for kids since it had a pool on the roof with a spectacular view and a separate living room with a pullout sofa bed. They have excellent cribs for no extra cost. The corner rooms are very spacious with a wrap-around terrace. The other rooms have the same benefits but are not as spacious. The location is excellent and the hotel has parking. Unfortunately, the prices have gone up since last year, but if you can find the room on a last-minute or a discount web site don‘t hesitate.

I stayed at Hotel Fonzari last week and had a super time. The rooms are fantastic, balcony on the fifth floor, separate lounge with a small kitchette. Clean modern spacious room with all you would expect from a four star hotel. The pool on the roof is fantastic with great views. The hotel lays on free internet access and has free access to bikes. There is secure parking (at an extra cost) and as we stayed slightly off season, we were able to negotiate a price! The hotel is centrally located and close to beach, restaurants and the historical basilica.

An absolutly lovely place with friendly staff and a good breakfast. Dont look anywhere else!

Regarding the hotel:
1. Spacious suites (bedroom, separate lounge with sofa bed, dining table, fridge), spotlessly clean and solid furniture. We had room 308, with huge terrace but although it was sea-facing, it had a 1m wall (unlike most suites that had smaller balconies but with railings)
2. Top-notch staff, friendly and helpful.
3. Really great roof-top pool (suitable for relaxing in rather than serious swimming) and sun decks. Child-friendly.
4. Very good buffet breakfast
5. Superb location, right next to both historic centre and beach

Regarding Grado:
1. Very refined, family-oriented seaside resort
2. Excellent (but not necessarily cheap!) beach
3. Obviously has a little more northern-European influences than resorts further south in Italy
4. Good boat links to nearby towns in Italy and Croatia
5. Approx 20 minutes by taxi (40 EUR) from Trieste Airport, served by Ryanair from Stansted. Also bus service available but takes 1 hour.
