This hotel has an excellent location, near the beach and just 7 mins walk from the old city. In the surroundings you have nice restaurants, bars and shops. My single room was small but very nice.
Nice continental breakfast, good service, plus free wi-fi connection!
The reception staff is absolutely nice and make you feel extremely welcome.
I would definitely stay here again

The location is perfect. The hotel feels like, looks like and smells like nothing has changed since the 70's. A typical problem with many Italian hotels. No electrical outlets to charge your gadgets, no free wifi, old and dirty covers on the beds, a tv with a gas tube (yes they still exist), an old ugly desk, and I could go on and on. Personally I would never choose this hotel, unfortunately it's not up to me.

As attachement you will receive our answer to Mr. Peter Molenaar review of the 23.4.12. We invite you to publish it integrally.

“Dear Mr. Molenaar,
Your review of the 23.4.12 on Tripadvisor contains statements not completely truthful, especially on the title. We will inform you, that our hotel is not of the 70’s. It was built in 1905, and over the years it has been restored and expanded at least 3 times. The last intervention is of the 90’s. The interventions have maintained the original architectonic characteristics. Maybe you would have preferred remake it with modern features, but in our country it’s not possible! We respect the art, also that for you decadent. All the historical Italian hotels maintain these traditions, with pride!
Answering your criticisms about our hotel, we can say that electric outlets are in every room (at least 4). Wi-Fi is free for your company crews. It is incredible that you had dirty decks in the room! The furniture in your photo is not old, is antique furniture in briarwood Belle Epoque-style.
The crews of your company we give hospitality for years have at free disposal: 2 swimming-pools with sea water, the solarium, the gym, and in our Marine Thermal Baths receive special discounts.
Most of our rooms are suites, and are usually occupated from your company crews, although the contract draw up with your company provide for standard rooms“

The hotel room was very dark. The time of year wasn't great for light but the room windows are in such a way that the room was very dark. Additionally the decoration was old and uggly with tiny showers and little room in the bathroom for putting toilet bag items.
The atmosphere was cold and unfriendly.
It was not easy to get documentation in English. I would not recommend this hotel.

It was the first stay at the Grand Hotel Astoria for me and my sister, but my aunt Elvira Udovich comes here almost every year. The hotel has four stars but infact it is a five star hotel. The food is excellent and on the menu they allways have fish, meat and vegetables. The rooms are very clean, you can eat from the floor, and spacious. The staff is very pleasant and friendly, it's like a big warm family. We went to the Maritime Centre to visit Fiorenzo and had massages, after that had a swimm in the swimming pool with sea water and later had inhalation. It was very relaxing and I recommend it to everybody. Great holliday

Very good hotel, quite expensive but worth the price.
Our room wasn’t very big, and being on the 3rd floor, central, didn’t enjoy much sea view, but it was clean and on the whole it was ok.
The real plus of this hotel for me are the 2 thermal swimming pools, the one indoor, useful if the weather is not good, but above all the one on the 7th floor, really wonderful, with a great view of the city of Grado and the lagoon.
The food was really good, too: good choice at breakfast and very wide choice at dinner, impressive the buffet, very rich.
The only “negative” thing was the wi-fi connection: the signal was very poor and it gave a lot of problems every time you had to log off.. Hope this can be improved.

For those who don’t know Friuli Venezia Giulia yet, I recommend not to stop only in Grado but to take some trips to nearby places: Aquileia (Roman ruins) Trieste and surroundings (so much to see..) Cividale del Friuli (Roman and Longobard settlement) Palmanova, the city of Udine, and then the beautiful lagoon, Barbana sanctuary, reachable by boat..
I think they are very worth the visit!

This hotel which was at one time the pre eminent hotel in the resort is now a little tired. The location a stones throw from the beach and on the edge of the old town is good but the sea view has been blighted by a large appartment block. The rooms are clean spacious and well serviced but the interior designer should be shot. Loved the pool on the roof. Breakfast was adequate. We ate out lunch and dinner. The trats all have the same menu which show no innovation. All of a reasonable standard but expensive. Would recommend L`APPRODO as the best. However this just alittle out of the centre.
The resort is ideal for families. Safe, clean and no aggro. Best means of transport is by bike. A car is not needed as the bus services are excellent .

Room Tip: Higher the better

Our third stay at the hotel was very enjoyable. It makes a great base for day trips in the region, one of our favorites in Italy. We take half-board and go out for lunch each day at one of the excellent restaurants within an hour's drive, also taking in cultural sites and some other places we go each trip such as the Domenis distillery in Cividale. On the way back to the hotel we invariably stop at Gran Gelato in Cervignano for some of the best artisanal gelato in Italy. The only complaint is that it seems gratuitous to charge each person sharing the room a fee for having a balcony or sea view; the fee should be per room. Also, the garage fee is steep.

The Grand Hotel Astoria was built at the beginning of the 20th century, when Grado was the Habsburgers’ and Middle European aristocracy’s Summer resort, with the name of Hotel Lido. The Hotel knew glory and smartness being the seat of the local casino. It was completely rebuilt and reopened in 1991, continuing its role of hotel with style, quality and elegance, like an island in the island, for its completeness and quality of its services.Tradition and modernity, this is the philosophy of the Grand Hotel Astoria, a 4 stars hotel located in Grado historic centre, few kilometres from the beach, exactly between the historic area with the ruins from the Roman period and the wide boulevards of the city centre, ideal for a completely relaxing seaside holiday.ITALIANOL' Hotel Astoria, splendido Hotel 4 stelle di Grado in Friuli Venezia Giulia, nasce all’inizio del 1900, quando Grado era ancora meta delle vacanze al mare degli Asburgo e della nobiltà Mitteleuropea, con la denominazione di Hotel Lido.L’albergo conobbe fasti e gloria, essendo tra l’altro, sede del locale Casinò.
