“Pleasant enough”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 28, 2012 via mobile

Room light and airy with restricted view of Etna which is good as just a glorified slag heap better viewed from a distance. Waiters nicer here than in Agrigento. Food institutional but served with a smile. Was a relief to eat outside the hotel on a few occasions. Service in bar could be poor at times and non existent at others. Not enough bar staff to cater for large numbers. Clean and pleasant pool. Nice stroll into Naxos. Taormina picturesque and like Etna best viewed from a distance as very expensive and crowded. Amphitheatre and cable car worth a visit.

Stayed here as part of a large tour group and found everything fine. The meals were from a set menu with some choice, the quality was fine and so was the service. Large tables set out for the group were a good idea, people mixed and matched happily at mealtimes. Fantastic pool and outside areas to relax in. A few shops and many bars etc a few minutes stroll away. This hotel suited us perfectly as a haven at the end of each busy, fascinating day.

I visited this hotel as part of the Voyages Jules Verne tour from 5-8 September 2012, and so my experience was different than it might have been as an individual traveller. I want to begin with the cons and end on a high note with the pros. Thus:

The cons:

1. Bear in mind that the hotel is a fair distance away from places to visit. If you're travelling independently on a cultural break, and you want to be close to churches, archaeological sites and public transport, this probably isn't the best place to stay. It's probably about a ten-minute brisk walk to the bus stop that will take you up into Taormina; and there isn't an awful lot to do in Giardini Naxos itself once you've been to the archaeological park.

2. As members of a tour group, we were consigned to three large communal tables at the back of the restaurant and given a curtailed dinner menu which we had to choose from each morning. I understand that this made the chef's and waiters' jobs much easier, but it did feel as if we were labelled as second-class travellers. Unfortunately, as the tour was half-board by default, we didn't feel able to take advantage of the restaurants kindly recommended by other reviewers.

3. I don't know if this is related to point 2. above, but the service in the restaurant was sometimes a little erratic.

The pros:

1. Even though I was that bete noire of hoteliers - the single supplement - I was given a lovely, spacious room with a wonderful balcony looking over the gardens and up towards Etna. The beds were made and the rooms cleaned every day and the large shower-room was also very well-kept and clean.

2. There is a small but beautiful garden centred on the pool and outdoor terrace, with palm trees and lovely flowers. Perfect for lounging around before dinner, or an evening stroll.

3. The wonderful pool is open from 8am until 7pm and was enthusiastically used by our group. It has some kind of odd sprinkler attachment, which was turned on once while we were in there (presumably as a joke by the pool barman).

4. If you're looking for a base for a beach holiday, this would be a good choice. The hotel has its own private section of pebbly beach, which is less than five minutes' walk away down a little lane.

5. Just round the corner from the back of the hotel there are a few little restaurants and a good little supermarket where we stocked up on bottled water and the odd prosecco for very reasonable prices.

6. The buffet breakfast was very good, with a spread of fruit, meats, cheeses and pastries; and I particularly recommend the mini doughnuts filled with cream, which the Sicilians call bombolini.

Room Tip: I don't know if there are any rooms without a balcony - but it's always worth asking to ensu...

Never been to Sicily thought we would give it a go. Beautiful place to visit. Hotel was nice, clean with a regular maid service. Food was okay, too fussy for young children. Luckily if you asked they did has a seperate menu for children, although they didnt seem to offer you the menu the food was fine. Hotel offered indoor pool/jacuzzi/sauna but these can only be accessed if you pay, 4 star facilities with additional cost, private beach was just a section of the main beach which you could go on for free. Staying here for a week is fine for a family, explore the area, there are so many nice places to see, Mount Etna, Toramnia and the sights sounds of Cantania market. Would recommend if you don't want somewhere too touristy!

Myself and my husband spent a week here in August. The hotel is in a quiet location, close to the (stony) beach and some bars and restaurants. It is a 20 min leisurly stroll into Giandini Naxos and a 10 min walk to the bus to Taormina.
The breakfast and dinner are fine although quite repetitive and not hugely exciting. We were half board but we ate out a few nights. The pool and surrounds are very well kept and there are plenty of sunbeds available. The hotel's owner keeps a very close eye on everything and we found the hotel spotless. Our room was spacious and was cleaned very well daily. The beds are a bit hard but we still managed to get a good nights sleep.
Overall, we found this hotel very good and would recommend it.

The hotel wasn't really what I had expected. More suited for older people. Not much to do around town except to go on the beach and eat at the cafe's. I left a day early because I didn't feel comfortable. The staff were very friendly, however not very helpful.

we had a week in this hotel in July and had a lovely time .Quiet location about twenty five min walk from gardini naxos .breakfast much the same as every other hotel with buffet breakfast bit boring ! The evening meals were lovely and service excellent all the staff were very friendly and helpfull as were the locals .There was a wedding while we were there and it was no bother to us at all no noise as reported before . one day when we got back there were no sunbeds and as soon as i asked at reception more appeared .our room was really nice and clean and confortable .beach nice and close and cheaper than most in sicily and Italy and nice little cheap bar over the road !!

Room Tip: go for front of hotel (sea view )
