Hotel Villa Mora
Ranked #23 of 38 Hotels in Giardini Naxos
Reviewed June 19, 2006

We had based our booking with this hotel on the positive reviews but were sadly very disappointed with the level of service! See the attached photographs!
We stayed at Hotel Villa Mora from June 1-4 this year (2006) and were given a very small, dark, dreary bedroom with two single beds that had been pushed together - not even secured together! It had a balcony that looked out on someone's overgrown back yard and 2 derelict buildings!
We decided to exercise our right to ask for a better room with a view of the beach - but we were told: "we were lucky to have a room with a balcony"!!! We later realised that this hotel did not have any rooms with view of the beach!
The bathroom had a smell of urine in it and the shower wasn't even properly enclosed - resulting in the whole bathroom floor getting wet! (See attached photo!). Also the tiny window in the bathroom was all rusted! (See attached photo!)
We had no choice but to accept this room. But to make matters even worse we were woken every 30 minutes throughout the night by the sound of high speed trains travelling past this hotel. None of the previous reviews have mentioned this - and I simply can't believe this! This resulted in us not having a proper sleep for the 3 nights we spent there. This was the worst part of our experience at this hotel as I highly value my sleep!
In addition, the rooms were supposed to be cleaned every day but after our second night and day in Giardini Naxos we arrived back at the hotel to find that the room was still as we left it! We had to ring reception to ask for fresh towels and toilet roll and we were told in no uncertain terms that all the rooms had been cleaned - when our room was not!
To add insult to injury one of our single beds broke when I sat on it on our final day there! We were given another bed but we weren't even offered an apology!!! Instead of an apology we were told that "they are new beds, they are only 3 years old, very heavy and strong".
We do have one good thing to say about this hotel. Mr Pati - the owner made an excellent breakfast! He was the only nice thing about this hotel unfortunately!
We obviously won't be staying here again although we would happily go back to Giardini Naxos - as it is a very nice place! Overall we would have to strongly advise TripAdvisor readers to avoid this hotel at all costs until the hotel sorts out its rooms and level of service.

After reading the fantastic reviews on Trip Advisor my friend and I looked forward to a relaxing holiday at Villa Mora, however when we arrived we quicky realised that we had been misled. The hotel is generally very shabby. The rooms are extremely small and dingy. The first room we were given had a bathroom with the toilet actually placed in the shower!! How you are supposed to shower without flooding the bathroom was a mystery to us and so we refused that room and were given another which was only marginally better because the toilet was just outside the perimeter of the shower curtain therefore affording slightly more protection from flooding! The beds were very hard and uncomfortable and the constant sound of the nearby trains meant that a decent nights sleep was impossible. Breakfast was comprised of a few breadrolls and bits of fruit in a dingy dining room.

The Villa Mora has lots of stairs and no lift and would therefore not be suitable for anyone with mobility problems.

Giardini Naxos is not the prettiest place to visit and there isn't much to do if the weather isn't good. Some of the local restaurants on the beach are however, very friendly and serve great food which doesn't cost the earth - 'Lido La Romantica' being one of the best and they will give you a discount if you say that you are staying at Villa Mora. Sicily is also quite difficult to get around unless you go on special tours which cost quite a bit and from the Villa Mora the only place you can really go to on your own is Taormina which is pretty enough for a days visit.

In the end we had enough of being so uncomfortable and so we decided to cut our losses and book an early flight home so that we could enjoy the rest of our very precious holiday time in more relaxing surroundings!

We have just returned from 3 nights in Villamora and would highly recommend staying there to anyone.

For the price the rooms were very nice, decent bathroom and very clean.
The breakfast was far better than is normally expected in a continental hotel (yoghurt, fruit, cakes, meats, cheeses, eggs, etc) and it is only 1 block/50m back from the beach which is probably a good thing because then you don't get the noise of kids on scooters doing alps along the promenade.

The staff were all very helpful and courteous, with good local knowledge.

The town itself is nice, with a lot of decebnt resteraunts (just ask the staff for some recommendations) and a quick trip up to Taormina or to Isola Bella, a very beautiful beach nearby. It is not often that you can be at the beach in the morning, on top of a snow covered active volcano for lunch then back down on the beach again for afternoon gelato.

I wish I was back there right now!

Hotel was OK, room was a little small. Staff were good and breakfast was nice. Other reviews on this hotel were encouraging and the pictures imply nice balconies looking out to sea. Our balcony looked out to the rear of the building across the street (a narrow street). The building was being renovated so our view was of scafolding, this also meant the builders had a nice view straight into our bedroom window when the curtains were open. On the upside you have good access to the town which is lovely, free beaches and nice restaurants.

We had the good fortune on a recent visit to Sicily to stay at Villa Mora Hotel, Gardini Naxos near Tormina. This Hotel is a million miles away from your standard hotel. We loved all the antiques and pictures that decorated the place. Our room was tasteful with shower room and balcony. Breakfast was served in a diningroom filled with reminders of a Sicily long gone. All this at a very reasonable rate and managed/owned by two very helpful people. This is not a place for very heavy luggage as there is no lift, otherwise it could not be better. ---

Upon arrival at Hotel Villa Mora, we were welcomed warmly in English by Anne e Patti, one of the hotel owners. The hotel is positioned conveniently, close to the water, restaurants and shops. Our room was very clean and comfortable and like the rest of the hotel was decorated tastefully with beautiful Sicilian antiques. A generous breakfast was enjoyed in the dining room and was included in the package. We really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Villa Mora and Naxos and we found it to be a very convenient place from which to explore surrounding areas such as Mt Etna, Taromina and Syracuse just to name a few.

We visted in October, and stopped a week rather than the four days we planned. The hotel was very clean, the beds were comfortable, and the breakfast was good, with cheese, eggs and fruit as well as bread. We had a room with a balcony, which was wonderful. The beach is just across the road, with a good public beach as well as lidos. The staff were all extremely helpful, and spoke English as well as other languages.
