This is a really clean and friendly boutique style B&B. If you like the Room Mates hotels, then you should like this one too. It’s on the main road which runs around Lake Garda, and therefore it is subject to some traffic noise, but there isn’t any door slamming, noise from other people passing your room and you certainly won’t hear toilet flushing or snoring coming from other rooms. I always strip the bed linen off the bed on the last day of my stay in any hotel, and found the mattress and pillows looked and felt new plus they were spotless.
There was a very good variety of food for breakfast including fresh fruit, ham and cheese, which could be eaten in the breakfast room or taken up to the roof terrace. We were even given a plate of fresh fruit for our room, which was very generous and thoughtful. All the staff were very helpful and friendly, even to remembering what we liked to eat for breakfast.
There wasn’t a lake view from our room, and I get the impression that none of the rooms have one. However, there was a lovely view of the lake from the roof terrace. On the day of our arrival we watched a firework display taking place in another resort from the roof, which made a great start to our holiday.
Just down from the hotel is a restaurant called Emiliano’s, which we ate in on a few occasions. The food was great, with a choice of beautifully cooked fresh fish and other Italian dishes with the added bonus of the menu being written in Italian, German and English. The waitresses spoke excellent English and were very friendly, which helped considerably as shamefully our Italian is appalling.
Within walking distance, uphill from the hotel, in Gardone Sopra you will find The Botanic Gardens which were not just beautiful, but also entertaining. The Vittoriale house, garden and museum will take at least a day to see properly, or half a day if you’re not inclined to take your time and stop and look. The climb up to the top of the mausoleum is well worth it for the view out over the lake which is breath taking. A reasonable trot further down the main Lake road towards Fasano and you’ll find Villa Alba, a beautiful old palazzo. It wasn’t open for us to see inside, but the outside is very grand if you like old architecture. There’s also a tower across the road that used to be in the grounds of the Villa, but is now in the grounds of a casino. You can still get pictures of it by going down onto the public beach. If you enjoy walking and can tolerate the heat (35-38o this August) then follow the Lake road round to Salo. Nice little town with plenty of interest and surprisingly nice clean public toilets. The boat service around the lake has been drastically reduced by the Italian Government, which makes getting to other destinations around the lake and back far more difficult than it should be due to time constraints.
