“Friendly, functional hotel”
Reviewed August 28, 2012

We stayed a week at the Miravalli from the 11th August 2012, booked through Thomson with Crystal holidays. Having read some of the reviews on here, I have to say I was wondering just what I had let myself in for. First impressions are admittedly not brilliant, I agree the lobby does seem a bit dingy at first sight. We checked in without incident and went to our room - and groaned. It had 2 single beds and was not the cleanest, to be frank. However, we went straight back downstairs and had a word with the man on reception, and we were soon moved to a different room. It had a double bed, and was very clean. From that point on, I have to say that we have not one negative thing to say about the hotel or the staff. Yes, its basic, yes, the breakfast isnt exactly your full English, but who wants that on the continent anyway?? If its not for you, there is a fresh fruit stall/shop literally outside the front door, and a supermarket directly across the road - go there! As for it being noisy, well, I cant say we were bothered by it - and we were there during a festival!

For what you are paying, you cant expect luxury. But I can honestly say that we had a fantastic holiday, in comfortable surroundings, with a 10 minute walk from the lake. It does make me wonder if any of the negative comments actually gave the staff a chance to change the room, or rectify the situation in any way. The little nana is great by the way, I dont think she ever sleeps, just hangs around so she can say hello and goodbye as you come and go!

Oh and the fantastic friendly bar across the road serves wine at 1 euro 50 a glass if the noise does bother you :)

Room Tip: rooms to the side of the hotel rather than roadside are probably preferable, but I dont think youd g...

Just returned from a lovely stay at the miravalli. Travelled with crystal, booked through thomson. Both rate this hotel as 2stars which must be remembered when reading other reviews. The hotel is well located in an excellent position to explore the area with heaps of bars and restaurants close by. The hotel is basic but clean and functional. You have to hire things like fans hairdryers an fridges but remember it is a 2star and you paid less for this hotel anyway. A special mention to the staff "mama" made this holiday for us, I reckon everyone who stays here has a soft spot for her. Would highly recommend the Miravalli for the price. Excellent!

If you are expecting a 5* hotel then this is not for you. HOWEVER I have just returned from a 2 week stay here and have had a great time.

I would say that the hotel is perhaps not worthy of the 3* rating, more a 2* but there is nothing particularly bad about the hotel, particularly considering the prices.
We paid £430 for two weeks (flights and b&b) an were more than happy when we arrived. After reading reviews I was expecting a tiny room, one that was falling apart and a dive but this was not the case.
We stayed in room 6 and it was a great size, plenty of space and a big bathroom with shower and bath combined. Yes there was no shower curtain but at no point was the bathroom flooded as a result. We had a lovelybalcoby overlooking the street and while it was a little noisy at times, wasn't a problem.
Breakfast was the usual continental style with rolls, toast, eggs, cereal, yoghurts, ham, cheese and water and orange juice. The waiter (who we nicknamed manuel, always brought tea or coffee with a cheery smile and prompt service). It did get a bit boring by the end but there are shops on the door step for alternatives.

The roof has a sun terrace which for the majority of the holiday we had to ourselves. There is no pool but a jacuzzi that you can get turned on whenever you wish.

It's true that you have to pay 20euro per week for a fan and a fridge, but it's money we'll spent. The maids come in every day an while I would have liked the sheets to have been changed a bit more frequently, the towels were always changed and the place was very clean.

The highlight of this hotel has to be the Italian nonna who always greets you with a cheery 'buongiorno' or 'Buona Notte'! She is lovely and works all hours of the day....she is a tad eccentric but this adds to the splendour of this family run hotel.

Like I said, if you want luxury this is not the place for you, however, if you can see past the minor faults an are happy to survive with a fan and a jacuzzi, or walk ten minutes to the lake, then this wee hotel is great. It's a safe and clean place to put your head at night and a great base to explore the northern parts of Italy and the lakes.
I would happily retun and if air conditioning was installed then the star rating would easily be merited.

When you arrive don't be deceived by the darkness of the interior and the old fashioned ness of the reception area. It is what it claims to be, a three star family run hotel. It's clean, it's basic, but you get what you pay for. The family though are lovely, especially the old lady , probably the owner? Breakfast is a truly continental affair, bread, ham, cheese, yoghurt , boiled eggs etc. exactly what I would expect. This is not a chain hotel, and if that is what you like this hotel is not for you, however we had a lovely short break, if you get the chance ask for a side room on the second floor as these have nice views out to the hillside.

Garda is a delightful and picturesque lakeside town with many restaurants and bars serving a good range of quality food and wine. A perfect place to relax and just be. Unless you are staying at the Miravalli.

We booked our trip as a last minute, discounted, four night stay through Thomson. The booking, flight and transfer was painless and professional. One of the reasons for our booking via Thomson was that we perceived them as a trusted brand but our experience with the Miravalli has seriously damaged our faith as we find it difficult to believe that any company would have a hotel like this on its roster.

This hotel is not clean. We were astounded that a number of previous reviewers described this hotel as "very clean". It is not. The reception area is dusty and old fashioned and not at all welcoming. The carpets could certainly do with a good vacuum. Our room, number six, was very basic and not clean. There was a layer of dust on top of the wardrobe, mirror, skirting boards, bathroom tiles and bathroom wall light. As there is no air con and it was very hot we rented a fan (20 euros for 4 nights). After five hours and a search for a member of staff the fan arrived, it was broken. Our staff member fetched a replacement, it was filthy and I spent the next ten minutes cleaning it. The advertised hair dryer was non-existent. The shutter in the bedroom was broken. The room was never fully cleaned each day. The lighting in the bathroom was very dim. The stained bath did not have a shower curtain and drained very slowly. The plug in the wash basin was broken. The towels were thin and threadbare. The breakfast was simply awful. Stale bread and boiled eggs which, like the bread, I suspect were more than one day old.

Basic we can accept. A travelodge is basic but believe me a travelodge is five star compared to this dingy, old fashioned and tatty hotel.

We will certainly be taking this up with Thomson as we feel very let down and disappointed.

Oh, and one final thing. The hotel staff keep your passport in a shoebox under the reception desk!

My husband and I stayed here for a week in July. It's not the best hotel but for what we paid it was adequate. Breakfast was basic as were the rooms, but it was very clean with fresh towels ect every day. The staff were helpful and the old lady ( is she the owners Mother?) was lovely.
We chose this hotel as our son lives nearby. Pegaso bar across the street is great for a drink before or after visiting the town centre, nice to meet local people and fellow holiday makers.
We had a trip to Verona it was fantastic then on to wine tasting, best atfernoon outing we've had for ages ( highly recommended) Another day a trip around the lake by bus and boat Superb! a long day but so worth it. Cant wait to Go again

Room Tip: aviod corner rooms as they have shared balcony and are very small

As our first taste of Italy this was just what we expected. A family run hotel, very basic but very clean. Breakfast was adequate, and it was lovely to sit on the terrace in the morning sun. The bus station is a few minutes away and it is a pleasant walk down to the lake, Our room was on the side of the hotel and we were therefore not bothered by noise, although this might be a problem if you hace a room at the front.
The owners were a joy!

Room Tip: Rooms on the side are quieter
