“Superb breakfast.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 23, 2011

My wife and I stayed one night in March this year at Hotel Excelsior Le Terrazze near lake Garda. Out of six cities that we visited in Italy over a period of 14 days, only the Hotel Excelsior Le Terrazze would fully qualify as a regular star hotel. All the rest were B & B types.

This hotel has a class. It has a swimming pool, nice garden, clean elegantly furnished spacious rooms, fast internet and above all an unmatchable breakfast with umpteen number of items of different types. Lake view rooms are expensive, so we had booked a side room which too had a balcony with an excellent view of the garden ( though not of lake). The staff was professional, but, sad to say, the warmth that we experienced at all other places in Italy was lacking.

Two things that seem to attract people to Garda are its giant Garda lake, the biggest lake in Italy with a maximum linear extent of 51 meters, and Gardaland, a fun center for kids. Boat cruises in the lake close around 4.30 PM and having reached late, we missed out on that. Garda has virtually no local buses and taxis are expensive. So without a car, we could not go anywhere else and we just took a stroll by the lake and ate at a small restaurant by the lake side. As such, we found the city to be very quiet – except for the cars which zoom by at speed over 100kmh – and rather dull.

Would we stay in this hotel again if we were to visit Garda? Yes, we would.
Chaitanya Mehta

Room Tip: Lake view is expensive, but side room is also ok.

We spent a week in Lake Garda in May. The hotel was spotless and the staff were always very friendly and accommodating. They work very long hours (you see the same people at breakfast and dinner) but they are always smiling and willing to help.
Breakfast had a large choice of cereals, pastries, fruits etc and there was a chief on hand to make an omelette.
Although half board, we only ate in the hotel twice. This is more to do with us liking to explore local restaurants and the two times we did eat in the hotel the food was delicious.

The bedroom was very spacious and we had a lovely view over the lake. It was also cleaned twice a day and was spotless. We did have quite a noisy overhead neighbour who liked to drag their furniture across the floor, but other than that the room was really pleasant.

The pool, while quite small, was very refreshing and no matter what time of day you went down, there was always a sun bed available. This might not be the case in high season though! It’s not heated but you are glad of the cool water after baking in the Italian sun for a few hours!

On our first morning we took a walk down to the Lido Bikini. It was a lovely walk along the lake and the gardens were also very pretty, however, it is right by a busy road and we found it a little annoying to have cars whizzing by while we were trying to soak up the sun and the view. Such a shame really as the gardens on the lake are a hidden gem.

It was our first time to the lake and we were very pleased with our hotel choice. It is only a short stroll to the centre of Garda and it’s such a picturesque place you don’t mind the wander. Take care on the road though, there are no footpaths! Single file all the way....

we were in garda for a wedding. absolutely loved this hotel and the italians. we were with our 2 year old who was given so much love and attention by the staff. they accommodated all our requests and were very attentive without being too forceful

rooms were spacious and so so clean with lovely comfy beds.

grounds are fab..

we liked our dinner at the restraunt and would say it is definately worth the 17 euro price tag as you get so much

hope to come again

Extremely well maintained hotel, in a great location, 5 min walk to the town.
Beautiful bar and pool area, lovely rooms, helpfull staff.
Wish I had stayed another couple of dats instead of going to venice

The only complaint - which isnt really a complaint is that the cleaning is a bit much! the cleaner comes twice a day.

We were going to go in the restauatnt one night which was buffet style but was told it was 70 Euros, this seemed far too expensive for a buffet style meal so we didnt try the food.

Try and find the Graspo restaurant for a good meal - you also get a free bottle of Graspo wine with the owners face on the bottle after your meal. You pick meat or fish and then get 3 courses, add a bottle of wine and its 60 euros. Best meal we had in Italy.

Thank you for the beautiful review ! Just wanted to point out that our Dinner - which is a three course served and salad buffet plus dessert buffet - costs 17,00 euro.
At reception we must definitely improve our english !
