“Friendly, family-run, fabulous”
Reviewed August 19, 2012

In many ways I can only echo the excellent comments that other reviewers have put about the Piccolo. It is the epitome of a family-run hotel with caring, helpful friendly staff treating you really as guests and providing high-quality, authentic local food. We have had a wonderful week-long family holiday at the Piccolo, and a word of praise in passing for the Crystal reps who were efficient in their organisation.

However, do realise

a) There is no air con - but the ceiling fans were fine despite 35 degree heat.
b) There's no pool or lounge - but since you're right on the waterfront, who needs it?
c) No pizza - but why worry about that?
d) Breakfast is fine - albeit limited to high quality 'continental' basics

If you want a soul-less international-style hotel that could be anywhere, Piccolo isn't it.

On the other hand, if you want an authentic, welcoming, local experience, and one in the words of Lord Coe that "does it right", then the Piccolo's the place to go!

Just returned home having spent a lovely week at the Piccolo in Garda. We stayed on a half board basis and enjoyed sitting out by the lake for both breakfast and dinner. No complaints about the food and I can be a fussy eater. Our ensuite room looked directly over the lake, what an amazing view when you wake on a morning.
We booked with Thomsons and we're looked after by the Crystal Holiday reps who were very helpful and knowledgable about the local area.
Overall a lovely relaxing holiday in a beautiful location.

Room Tip: Pay the extra when booking for the lake view room. Room number 6.

We had a fantastic holiday in Garda, Lake Garda at the Piccolo Hotel. We would recommend this hotel to everyone looking for a relaxing, friendly, traditional Italian break. The Dorella family and all the staff were wonderful. They were all very helpful, friendly and nothing was ever a problem. We were on a half board basis and the food was tasty and well presented. Sitting out each morning and evening at the lake was so beautiful. That's what I call dining al fresco at it's best :-) The bedrooms were clean and furnished in a traditional style with a hairdryer in the en-suite (which was an added bonus I didn't expect). Stefano,, his mother and sister are very organised and run the hotel with precision. We will return to Lake Garda as it is SO beautiful and will definately stay at the Piccolo. This hotel gives you a real taste of Italy and because it is family run you feel like you are staying with friends. http://www.piccolohotelgarda.it/en/benvenuti.asp this is the link I used to view the hotel and get a flavour of what to expect. We want to live there now that we've been and discover all the little ports on the Lake. A BIG thanks to the Dorella family for a wonderful week. Hope to see you all next year!

We have just returned from 2 weeks at this hotel.Ideal location for travelling on the lake and also for access to Verona and Venice. We wanted to taste the real Italy, not stay in a hotel which could be anywhere in the world, and we got what we wanted.Hotel was spotlessly clean, food was excellent and because we were on a table d'hote menu we ate some dishes which we may not have ordered if we were given a full menu, which added to the experience. All of the staff were very friendly and there were a lot of laughs and some use of sign language. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who would like a laid back taste of Italy

Room Tip: Not all rooms are en suite, but each room has a private bathroom in the corridor and bath robes are s...

Have just returned from a week in the Piccolo Hotel in Garda. This was our fourth visit to Garda but first to the Piccolo. It is a small (10 rooms) family run hotel right on the lakeside in a really beautiful location. The weather was unusually hot (38 degrees at 6pm) and so the lack of air con was more of a problem than it might have been - the rooms only have ceiling fans which struggled to cope in the extreme heat but would probably be adequate in normal circumstances. Eating outside on the lakeside was lovely and much nicer than the more formal dining arrangements of some of the other hotels. The hotel is spotlessly clean and the rooms comfortable. The only fault was that our room was at the back and overlooked a very, small bar which seemed to be the only one in Garda that remained open until about 4am and as a result it was quite noisy. The breakfasts were buffet style, continental and lovely with a wide choice of cold meats, cheeses, cereal, fruit, breads, frittata, boiled eggs, yoghourts and conserves. Dinner was a set 3 course menu with a choice of 3 starters, 2 mains and 3 desserts. We enjoyed the week very much and I would go back tomorrow given the chance. (One word of warning - make sure you have your front door key if you are going to be back after about 11.15pm as we found ourselves locked out and facing a night on a park bench until sheer luck saw some of our fellow guests returning late from a trip to Venice and they let us in!!)

Room Tip: We had a family room (last room available when we booked) which gave us a lot of extra space.

A lovely, traditional, family run Italian Hotel, in a great location. Our two children (aged 8 and 4 at the time) were made to feel very welcome, despite the language differences. We stayed on a half board basis and whilst the children did eat off the limited, set menu the staff had offered to cook alternative things for them if required. It was very clean and a great base for our one week stay. The only thing that would have improved things further would have been an air conditioning system as the fan was extremely noisy at full speed. However our visit did coincide with an unusually hot period. The children have asked when we can go again, and we would also love to return at some point.

Room Tip: They have a great family ensuite room, where there was a wall seperating the childrens twins from ou...

Guests return here year after year and it is easy to understand why. We picked it because of its value in the thomson range and it offered half board. Very friendly, family run hotel, sometimes a bit like fawlty towers which made it great fun. Very clean, good food , although it repeated on the second week so if you are going to eat out then pick this time. Great location , close to the bus station and the ferry point. Also close to the Hotel victoria, which is great for coctails, beware of the long island tea, they make you so drunk. Overall a great hotel, great location, friendly people in a beautifil place. If we return I would not hesitate to stay here again.

Room Tip: The more pleasant you are with the staff, the more pleasant they are with you. The mother made us a...
