Grand Hotel Imperiale
Ranked #22 of 43 Hotels in Forte Dei Marmi
Reviewed October 5, 2011

We were two families (4+4) traveling to Forte dei Marmi and decided to stay at Grand Hotel Imperiale. One of the families chose a suite for all four and the other family booked two exec rooms. From the moment of our arrival we were impressed by both staff and facilities. This is a true 5 star hotel situated perfectly in FdM. The pool area is extremely charming although located in the back of the hotel. This means that in October the sun will set behind the hotel at around 4PM. The breakfast was great and the restaurant impeccable. The Spa in the hotel is amazing, small but very luxurious and intimate. Turkish and dry sauna were as they should be. Given that the hotel standards were impeccable it was great to have a staff that did everything they could for you. Very personal and professional but definitely the best! PS. free bicycles available - a fantastic experience!!

My family and I stayed here in August 2010 but I forgot to write a review and feel that I must as I too rely heavily on other people's comments when booking family summer holidays.

I take many months searching for a five star holiday for the family, particularly in Italy as it's our favourite holiday destination. This is the only 5* hotel in Forte dei Marmi.

I had a feeling when I booked one room was going to be too small for my husband and I and two children and it was... but there were larger rooms available which we took and with an interconnecting door to the children's room. Now these rooms were more like to. Large, luxurious, amazing bathrooms and wonderful large terrace to each room and so much wardrobe space!

The hotel is amazing, a short distance from Florence airport. The hotel is within easy walking distance to the beach and lovely expensive shops and delightful restaurants. The market is wonderful as is the beautiful clean park and we so enjoyed racing cars around a cicular park, great fun.

We spent every day by the stunning mosiac pool. Breakfast was delicious. We had superb dinners in the hotel restaurant most evenings with live music. The staff were very attentive and friendly.

YES it is expensive and YES we would definitely go back to this hotel, we all loved the Grand Hotel Imperiale and Forte dei Marmi is beautiful but would make sure I book the larger rooms in future.

From the moment you enter the gates, you notice fake plastic flowers in large gold spray painted flower pots. As you enter the hotel, you realize there is nothing "authentic" or 5-star about this place. Gold fake-leather sofas and glittered "decoupage" wall coverings. Literally, i think they got children's glitter and spounge painted it onto the walls. The staff is well-intentioned but poorly trained. A fax that was sent to us from the US on a Friday finally made it to us on Monday when we asked the concierge where it was. The bikes that are available to use have flat tires and rusty seats....my husband's handle bars came out of the frame and he flipped over the bars and bruised his knee and ankle, sending him the doctor. We tried to move hotels and the manager would not let us out of our "contract" so we had to stay. And she didn't even have the p.r. skills to speak to us personally. Forte de Marmi is a charming town. And we loved our trip. But the hotel was a major drag. We will NEVER NEVER go back. We travel a lot. And have traveled around the world. We like very nice services but are just as happy with a charming old hotel with a helpful staff. This hotel made you feel like they were laughing at you when you left the hotel because they had robbed you blind.

Dear Customer,
We are really sorry to read that you had a disappointing stay at our hotel.
However, we were really surprised by some of your comments. We are not sure where you have seen the “flake plastic flowers” as there are not any. Our garden and outside areas are tended by a our own skilled gardener. As for the golden tones of the reception, again we are sorry to hear that it was not to your taste.
Our decorators will be pleased to have been compared to children, since it is well known that children’s creativity is the cleanest and finest in the world.
Most importantly, we are very sorry to read that you felt left down by our service. We can assure you that all our staff is highly trained and accustomed to dealing with a varied clientele from many parts of the world, and we have yet to receive a complaint about their standard of service. It is unfortunate that you did not experience that, and we can only apologise for the missing fax. We can also assure you that had you made us aware about your husband’s fall we would have striven to offer you the best care and support available to us.
And finally, with regards to the bill, it is our policy (and it is indeed in our agreement) that full payment for a given stay is expected in the case of early departure, exceptional circumstances aside. We are afraid that we do not consider an unexpected invite from a friend in England for the final match of Wimbledon an exceptional circumstance.
Kind Regards,
Roberta Bonfanti

Just back from Italy, many times i’ve been there, many comments I’ve read here on Tripadvisor, This time I have to write mine. I’ve discoreved a gem. Forget about formats and standards, here we’ve found a warm welcome, a spacious, luxurious suite with balcony (great to have breakfast there), alps on the left, gold sand beaches on the right, an enthusiast but discreet staff, always smiling and ready to satisfy every need. Forte dei Marmi is a kind a small South Beach, very expensive, very exclusive; Grand Hotel Imperiale is the best hotel there, worth every penny we spent there."

It is the best in town today. Rooms are new, with a lot of space and really clean.
Service is perfect and staff well trained.

According to my opinion price is too high compared to five stars around the world.
Moreover they'll charge you every single extra at very high price: pay attention!

use the beach is not included in the rate, and is very expensive

Dear Sirs,
we do apologize if your stay did not fully satisfied your expectations.
Most of our rooms have seaview and jacuzzi as well. Probably you were allocated in one of our Classic Standard rooms. Those types of rooms have a sideview, that still is a nice view but not a seaview.
We do own the Minerva Beach Club which is one of the most exclusive beaches in Forte Dei Marmi. Since the request is high, reservation is highly recommended and cannot be part of room reservation.
We would be pleased to welcome you again as our estimeed guest and show you our brand new treatments at Medical Spa Imperiale, which has deliberately soft lights in order to relax your mind and body.
Kindest regards,
Francesca Sarti - GHI Reservation manager

Have just retuned from Forte having spent four nights at the recently opened Grand Hotel Imperiale.

Forte is a wonderful place with a warm but expensive feel, however we have always struggled to find a quality hotel to match - struggle no longer the GHI has everything one needs. Modern technology, mother of pearl/gold tiled swimming pool, turkishbath, luxury beds and wonderful staff - all within a two minute walk from the main town square.

My wife and i spent our usual month South East Asia this February staying at our favourite hotels, the Peninsula Bangkok and the Datai Langkawi and whilst it is always difficult to compare East with West the GHI is certainly up there with the afore mentioned.

This visit will not be our last.!
