The facade is a wonderful mixture of romanesque and gothic styles, with a distinctive main portal where the columns are supported on the backs of lively animals. The whole south side has shops built into the architecture, and on the upper level the columns wave and intertwine among themselves in wonderfully whimsical ways. A real reflection of the wealth, piety, and sense of humor among the medieval Ferrarese.
