Description: The intimacy of a small room with just six tables with views of the kitchen, you will enjoy a dining experience in an exclusive atmosphere. Don Giovanni bases its origins on over 25 years of experience in the restaurant business Italian and international Chef Pier Luigi Di Diego and the daily and careful research of raw materials of the season and first quality. Our garden of 1.2 hectare, diversified from May to October, is located at Marrara near the former headquarters of the restaurant and allow us to use fresh raw materials that are processed in the kitchen with great respect for tradition, without excluding modern techniques cooking and processing of food, paying close attention to nutritional aspects. Every day by our pastry, fresh bread is prepared with different qualities of flour. Our wine cellar, made in the former bank vault that was here before the seat, offers a careful selection of wines with more than 600 national and international labels. Our philosophy of life, prompted us to choose most of the wines produced from sustainable agriculture (organic, biodynamic, etc.). The opportunity of a proposal for a tasting by the glass in combination with the food is the opportunity to taste wines that respect the originality of the terroir, ie the taste of a particular place. To advise in the room Laura Gentleman, wife of the chef, their synergy, dining and kitchen, take you to your gastronomic journey as an indispensable ingredient of a recipe meditated.

Excellent and imaginative Italian cuisine in a pleasant atmosphere with attentive, amusing and informative staff.
I doubt there is anywhere better in Ferrara!

Last thursday we celebrated my wife's birthday with dinner at Il Don Giovanni in Ferrara. It was a very special evening. Nice food with a personal touch, wonderful and unusual wines and, above all
,extremely pleasant and enthusiastic staff. Uncommon, these days, to find people who love doing their job that much. An example. We'll be back!

It wasn't always easy for us to find a restaurant in Ferrara b/c it seemed as if we were always showing up on the days that the ones recommended were closed. One evening we decided to just stroll around Corso Ercole I D'Este and discovered a large open building with a gelateria, a restaurant and a wine bar that had seating in the huge lobby floor. The restaurant seemed set up for a private party so we went into the wine bar for some information and were told that the restaurant was closed for the party but we were welcome to eat at the wine bar and that the menu would be the same as the restaurant's. This was not easy to comprehend b/c the bartender did not speak much English so he referred us to one of the owners who explained the situation and made us feel very welcome. The menu was totally in Italian and needed to be translated and thoroughly explained since the dishes were not your typical Italian fare and were a bit exotic to us. The owner was delightfully patient explaining the ingredients and techniques, which we really appreciated as the wine bar started to fill up AND he had a large party going on outside. We took a chance and ordered some wonderful dishes, which we totally enjoyed. Everything from the bread to the desserts was wonderful! The prices were a little higher than most other places we tried but it was our best meal during our 4 day stay in Ferrara.

One of my favourite restaurants in the area, that I return to when I can. Very knowledgeable staff with wonderful understanding of cooking. Small and intimate, but great food and service.

Found Il Don Giovanni in the Gambero Rosso 2012 guide. Tried it on a mid-week evening in October, making reservations only two hours in advance.
I counted only six tables, in an otherwise rather austere but nevertheless fitting environment, with lounge music on the background.
Marco Merighi, very 'simpatico' and multi-lingual, instantly agreed with my choice of red wine from a very reasonably priced but extensive wine list: a well-matured Terre Brune from Sardegna (carignan grape). Everything was simply great, tasteful and asthonishingly light: from the deer (cervo) to the chocolate phantasy.
