Duchessa Isabella Hotel

I stayed at this hotel during the Festival of the magazine Internazionale as I was one of the international speakers. It was the worst hotel I have stayed in.
The hotel is incredibly dirty, we found finger nails on one of the bed side tables, pubes in the toilet and dead spiders on the floor.
The staff is extremely rude, when we complained about the nails and the dirt we found in the room they said we were basically lying because it had never happened before.
In addition, when I went for breakfast, I asked the waiter if he could bring me an espresso and a cappuccino and he complained because apparently you can only get 1 coffee.
I can't believe this is supposed to be a 5 stars hotel.
DONT GO!

I had a really great and romantic time in this cosy and charming historical place!
The restaurant is a fantastic small and "home feeling" boutique with high level of service in line with the tradition of hospitality of the city (Ferrara) where it is base.
The building is a '800 original patronal building all restored with a Luxury small but really super cosy design spa! To try!
We had a really super tasty dinner and we suggest to don't miss the desert!
The owner is a young and dynamic lady with a great approach to the guests and the vivid capacity to make “feel at home”.
Definitelly I suggest for all foddies and the lover of charming and luxury hotels.

Great family run feeling, delicious meals, excellent service. BUT they need to invest in modernizing and refurbishing. The room key drove me crazy the heat didn't work i was so hot opened the window but then was eaten alive by mosquitoes. Internet access was free WiFi but complicated to access. They need new shower curtains and wallpaper.

This hotel has been resting on its laurels for far too long. It's a member of the Relais and Chateaux chain but really doesn't deserve to be. The price of our room (admittedly a suite) was E299 a night -- including parking and breakfast -- but we felt this was rip-off. Some of the staff are nice and helpful, but there is a sour woman at reception who never seems to smile nor to know how to be pleasant. The decorations are dated, fusty and frou-frou, with pink flounces, frills and swags everwhere -- and that includes the shower curtains -- so that it was like staying in a tart's boudoir. The decorations throughout are overdone, and we felt we were paying for unneccessary tat and glitz, including shiny orbs and satin tablecoths. The whole place could do with a complete overhaul to bring it into the 21st century as everything seems to be old and dated: our bathroom had two washbasins but no proper shower; instead there was a bath with an old-fashioned shower attachment that was considerably underpowered; the extractor fan was so old it groaned loudly, the hairdryer was terribly feeble, and the soapdish had no drain-holes so the soap sat in a pool of water. Breakfast was adequate, but the cold meat had clearly been sitting about for some hours and was beginning to sweat; not only that, but the perfectly nice man who served us had a cold and sneezed lustily without bothering to use a handkerchief. Worst of all, though, was the fact that the bedroom walls are extremely thin, so that everything in the next room is audible. We left longing for a good night's sleep. This is a hotel that could be wonderful. It has a lovely garden and a pretty terrace, but it is let down by its lackadaisical attention to detail, its absurdly overdone and dated decorations and by not paying enough attention to the comfort of its guests.

It's pretty hotel living in the past...And to darn expensive for what it is . The rooms are very frou frou with artificial flowers everywhere, high ceilings and lots of tat ...in the rooms and out. The staff have probably been there for ages and are relatively pleasant and the garden is lovely. The food, despite being a Chateau-Hotel, is certainly not up to the standard expected but the free wi fi works fine everywhere. Let's just call this place average...but certainly not bad or equivalent to some of the bad comments . What it needs is a new pricing structure ,professional management and complete clean out to make it a pleasant place to stay. And a new chef.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with the least tat in it

This place is the pits! Dirty dirty dirty, Laura Ashley 1980, charming if you like dust and dirt. 130 Eur for bad pasta and salad by 2 and 2 small glasses of wine..hahaha. If you like the adams family you will then find Lurch at the front desk and the Lady of the hotel is Morticia, she cant even help with dinner reservations. I guess watching RAI UNO is more important. NEVER AGAIN. Relais Chateau should bomb this location.

Looked at website and got the WRONG impression....stayed in Ferrara for a medical conference, stayed in many hotels in italy and this one was the worst one.... very dirty very rude staff very over priced.... mold in bathroom, full of bugs, equivalent to a motel 6... a very over priced hostel....spent all night killing bugs in the room, the bed is a killer... room has not been updated since the late 70's.... look at picks with the wallpaper coming off... should be illegel to be rated 5 star hotel, americans you would not like anything about this place, and they will not take care of complaints or needs....
