Arriving in Erice at 9 p.m. our hotel (not Elimo) warned us that the dinner hour was soon ending. We were surprised by this, since southern Europeans are supposed to dine late into the night! Be warned: Not in Erice.

We quickly rushed to the restaurant at Elimo to get dinner, and were seated right by the window with panoramic views off Mount Erice. We ordered the 5-course menu (€25 per person) to be sure we got our order in on time, and ordered a bottle of wine.

We were treated to course after course of excellent cuisine, with a choice of fish or meat as a main course. The highlight for me was the goat cheese on the overflowing antipasti platter. For my partner, it was the cassata cake for dessert.

€25 per person may be pricey (before wine) but in Erice, a tourist town in the clouds, prices seem to be higher. One could easily order a la carte and have a more manageable bill.

I would love to see the view in the daylight. At night, you could see lights for miles around. I imagine during the day, a clear one in particular, it is simply spectacular.

I visited Elimo while in scientific school in Erice. As a participant of the school you pay a reasonably large fee and get your lunch and dinner with fixed menu at several restaurants in Erice. In Elimo they welcome you reasonably well, then as soon as they see your school participant badge the attitude changes like they are making a huge favor to you. Instead of the nice table in the corner they were taking us to, they put us right in the middle as soon as the owner saw my badge and started talking to me very unceremoniously. Then the feeling was that they want you to eat and leave as soon as possible, with a waiter marching around the tables at all times breading heavily like a guard in a prison camp. I must admit, the food was good even in our fixed menu, but I rather eat a takeaway in the street than go to Elimo again, in the end the school participants are all well respected scientists form around the world and deserve a bit of a respect! Even worse, one of my colleagues received life threats from the owner in the middle of the restaurant in response to the accusation of cheating when the owner refused to give back the correct change for the money paid for drinks they ordered!
