Amazing good food at good price. Friendly personal. We always visit Macaroni when we visit or pass Diano Marina. Tips; large portions that you can share ...

“Superb quality - exceptional service - excellent value”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 17, 2013

Normally, we tend to steer clear of pasta and pizza as neither my wife nor myself can tolerate garlic in any quantity. However, during a recent short-break in Diano Marina we ran out of safe options and on our last night decided to try Spaghetteria Macaroni.

It was magnificent.

The first thing we did was to establish that everything was fresly prepared. A little well-rehearsed Italiano helped, and was appreciated by the delightful waitress. Next, we asked whether it was possible to order "off-menu", i.e. to select parts of dishes from the menu where it was obvious the kitchen had the ingredients available. Again, this would be OK. So...we proceeded to order exactly what we knew we would enjoy, with wine, Italian of course, to help it all down.

My wife had a simple spagehetti with tomato dish. I had a combination of three dishes, spaghetti carbonara without the bacon, then grilled smoked salmon from the penne dish and peas from a very exotic sounding tagliatelle platter. Others have commented on Trip Advisor that the pasta is al dente, but I didn't think so, it was exactly as I would make at home.....throw it at the wall, if it sticks, it's done!!

The only down side is that you need to go without breakfast, lunch and dinner for at least 3 days beforehand and afterwards in order to appreciate the enormous portions!! They are very generous and well understand that diners will struggle to manage the quantity (we never got to the bottom of why so much food must get wasted, which must also inhibit the opportunity to sell desserts!!)

We were really well looked-after and it was a privilege to have dinner in this restaurant.

We left a generous tip and would certainly return if ever within 20 miles, simply for the generous co-operation afforded to us by the establishment. Best waitresses in Diano Marina....and after all, they are your only real link to the kitchen.

It gets very busy so you should book, especially if you prefer to sit in the lower area close to the street (not noisy or close to pedestrians). We got the impression that take-aways are also possible as some people were seen taking things out in foil wrappers!!

The restaurant itself is located in Via Verdi just off the coast road in a square near the tourist office and church.

Well done Spaghetteria Macaroni and thanks for a splendid finale to our holiday in Diano Marina!!! We had cocktails at a little place on the sea-front, Piccolo Bar Antoine....great atmosphere and very friendly.

“A Reliable Choice”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 30, 2013

In the 30 years we have been visiting Liguria regularly, Diano has never been a tempting restaurant town. (It still isn't). It is an attractive beach resort, but this is a remarkable failing.when most of its rival have at least one or two destination dining establishments.

This is a better than average local choice for competently prepared pasta dishes of great variety. If I could, I would give it a rating between 3 and 4 circles. The prices are moderate and the portions generous. It will not be a distinctive dining experience, but you will feel you have been given fair value.

The restaurant is on an attractive piazza adjacent to the beach promenade and centrally located. It is possible to sit outside in a covered sun room, which is less confining and perhaps quieter and more attractive than the interior dining room.

The service, at least for our Wednesday lunch, was pleasant and efficient. We started with a decent salad, and waded into the half dozen pasta choices compounded with four or five dozen combinations of ingredients. The pasta presentations were certainly respectable and appeared to have quality ingredients. There is a fair choice of moderately priced wines to accompany the menu. The tiny paper napkins is one of my least favorite Italian attributes.

With the large portions, there was no room for dessert. Quality coffee ended a pleasant but not particularly memorable meal.
