“Lovely chalet and great staff!”
Reviewed January 2, 2014

We too were lucky to have Christmas in the Victoria Park Hotel; the hotel is well situated in Cortina but the slopes are not linked which means a trip on the regular bus service or with Pete - a complementary minibus service provided by Inghams. The hotel is very clean and the food plentiful and of a very high standard - and as a chalet hotel sharing tables for meals means making new friends and swapping (tall) tales of adventures from the piste! An unexpected power cut for 36 hours involving the whole town and even larger area was testing for the staff but through it all they rallied round with professionalism and good humour and made the best of the taxing conditions for the guests and eventually got everyone to their flights on time via a hotel by Lake Guarda as the more direct route to the airport was blocked by avalanches and fallen trees. I cannot speak highly enough of the excellent staff lead by Louise the manager, assisted by Jenny the bar manager and rep Teddy. Harriet and the rest of the team provided a fantastic, cheery service (and plenty of complimentary wine..) through the mealtimes. Cortina provided many interesting sights - furs and dogs were plentiful and we even spotted one in a nappy! (the dog that is..) Would I recommend this hotel? absolutely.. you'll have a great time!

We travelled as a group of 4 adults to enjoy a christmas skiiing holiday in a new resort, this is our 5th ski break at christmas but our first to Italy. The staff led by Louise are amazing, their enthusiasm and willingness to help is boundless ensuring you have a great time. The chalet style of the hotel ensures the "family" style and encourages all guests to meet and chat to each other, the open fire in the bar area is warm and welcoming. Jenny who runs the bar is a lovely person and runs an efficient friendly service for the hotel.Meals were excellent and all round a great expereince. The htotel is somehat old fashioned and the rooms could do with a facelift our pink 70s bathroom was a bit scary but soon got used ot it!!
During our stay there was an unexpected masssive snowfall which caused chaos across the resort and wider meaning there was no power across the resort for 2 days and travel chaos. Louise and her team worked hard under exceptionally difficult circumstances to ensure we could access a hot meal at a local pizzeria and all the staff came in on their day off to ensure paths were cleared, logs bought in, fires lit and bar stocked. There were candles provided to guests who did not have torches and Louise ensured she rang every room to make sure they had not left any candles lit during the night. The continued snowfall meant roads were closed and we were evacuated to a hotel in Lake Garda to ensure we were able to get to the airport and home the next day, this may not have been ideal but was the only decision Inghams could take to ensure we were able to return. the behaviour of some of the other guests at this time was shocking ! with one family rushing to pack their bags and blocking the doorway to ensure they got first seats on the coach appaling considering there was a young family with small children and a gentleman with broken ribs who in my own view should have had priority.

My Family stayed here over Christmas and the location of this " Chalet Hotel " as Inghams like too descibe it, there excuse for any short commings at chalet hotels as it is not run by trained hotel staff, is excellent as it backs on too the main street and the many resteraunts close by.
As stated by the prvious reveiwer it has been sub let to Inghams for the next two seasons, so the Management and staff with the exception of the Ski rep Teodora are English.
The young staff are a delight and what they lack in expierience they make up for in a delightfull manner and are always eager to help, also the bedrooms are spotless.
I would recomend room 403, a triple with balcony, beware some rooms are not up too this standard.
With regard to the food it really is very good indeed, the Head chef produces an imaginative and varied menu and as I was a chef for thirty five years I know good food, well cooked and presented with flair and Panache.

So whats wroung with the hotel ? nothing it is a little dated but it has a loveley log fire and drawing room, a frendly Bar and a good sized eating area.
As you may be aware Cortina and the surrounding area had a power cut on Boxing day, Inghams head office who where informed of the situation, made no attempt to make us more comfortable by transferring us to another hotel nearby which had ther own generator so we had to spend the night with no heating, hot food, hot water, not even emergancy lighting, the Manager just handed out free wine and Lit candles, surley a recipie for disaster.
There was no fire drill, or any emergancy proocedures given in case of fire so we spent the night sleeping in a giant pine dressed tinder box with candles left lit all night, why could Inghams not give the Manageress the funds to buy torches a much safer option.

The followiing day we where told there would be a meeting at 3.30pm as no decision had been made about what was to happen to us, still no power by the way, we later found out that Inghams head office had booked us in to a hotel some 250km away at 11am that morning, surley the manager or Inghamns rep Teddy would have known this but when repeatedley asked they said they had no Idia what was going to happen to us and all the other hotel guests.

We asked again and again what Inghams intended to do to make up for our discomfort, the Management did not want to entertain any reponse.
It seemed to me the company rep "Teddy" was calling the shots and blatently lied to us all as guests as too what they had planned.

At the 3.30 meeting we where proudly told they where going to evacuate the hotlel due to the saftey issues, interesting that a fresh group of guests where due to arrive the next morning!
We where informed we where being moved to a hotel nearer to the airport for the departure the next day.
In truth the Hotel was in the oppositte direction of Innsbruck Airport, and ended up in a two day 10 hour round trip Coach ride that caused my wife who is disabled and myself with a neck disability huge pain as well as tremendos upset for all the other hotel guests.
I could also comment on the Coach Driver and The Rep Teddy exchanging and talking on mobile phones while he was driving at speed on icy mountain roads.
We intend to bring this to the attention of Inghams and also report our health and saftey concerns to the relevent authorites but in all honesty the way that Inghams have shown a total disregard to fire saftey and the fact that they have ruined a third of our holiday with not so much as a sorry is realy beyond beleif.
I would strongly advise all future guests to enquire if the Hotel has a back up generator in case of a power cut and if not what they would intend to do in case of another situation such as ours.

I am so dissapointed in the Manager and rep for blatently lying to us with the sole purpose of getting us out of the hotel to make way for new guests and about the distance we would travel and even the location of the hotel we where transferring too, it is such a shame because I beleive the hotel manager was being forced to be an automaton for Inghams when she knew what she was asked to do was dishonest , a danger to lives, and wroung.
I have given the Hotel 4 stars as the staff deserve the recognition and it is not their fault that Inghams have behaved so badly.

Please be aware that this hotel has been taken over by Inghams travel during the ski season.
It is still a well run hotel, with competent staff, 90% of whom are English. but there is nothing Italian about this place anymore, other than its decor and location.
The photos of food and reviews on Tripadvisor no longer bare much resemblance.
This is run like a chalet NOT a hotel, with regimented meal times and a day when ALL the staff take a day off and you have to fend for yourself.
Great location, good English food, great staff.
Little Britain, NOT little Italy !

Inghams holidays are running this hotel for the winter season, and we stayed for their first week. What a fantastic team, I couldn't criticise anything. Friendly service, great food and beautiful (if a little quirky) rooms.
Fantastic position on the pedestrian main street. Close enough to the main lift to walk, but a great minibus service takes you to the lift, and brings you back in the evening.

we arrived to Cortina d'ampezzo after a long day sightseeing the dolmites and we were looking for one night stay. the best thing in this hotel is it's location, view from the room and cleaniness. The furniture is oudated and needs a change, the bathroom was tiny, and the breakfast was very poor. In overall , if you are looking for one night stay it' Ok..

A warm and friendly hotel in the centre of Cortina where the staff are friendly and the food superb. A very relaxed atmosphere with attentive bar staff and enjoyable nibbles to accompany drinks. We visited out of season and nothing was too much bother and although the hotel was quiet, we really enjoyed our visit, so it is on our must return agenda. Cortina is central to some beautiful scenery and several car trips around the mountains and valleys are needed to appreciate its beauty. Although not a skier or winter sports fan, this would be amazing with snow, but was superb without it.
