Review Tenuta dell’ Argento
Civitavecchia, Italy
On a cruise from Rome (Civitavecchia) decided to come one day early in case of airline connection problems; found the Tenuta dell’ Argento hotel online, emailed Filippo, received a quick response and made reservations easily; Filippo’s english was excellent (as we don’t speak Italian) and he made arrangements for a private cab to pick us up at the airport for the 45 minute drive to Civitavecchia (130 Euros) . Arrived at the hotel about 10: 30 am, Filippo showed us two rooms and let us pick which one we wanted! It is NOT the typical US chain hotel, but a very very pleasant small hotel. The hotel is on a hillside about 2 miles from the port and the town, with a beautiful panoramic view of the Mediterranean, the ships at the dock and downtown Civitavecchia. It is a working ranch with horseback riding and beef cattle. We could have stayed downtown in the middle of the action but decided for this pastoral setting instead. It was the right decision for us. It is very quiet and we saw a beautiful sunset, with the sun going down in the west over the water. Customer service is outstanding. We took advantage of their free shuttle and went into town for a couple hours of sightseeing. The waterfront is picturesque, but the town itself is contemporary (since WWII). There is one fort from the 1500’s that is worth seeing. We had dinner at the hotel (8pm-10pm). There is a restaurant attached to the hotel. The English dinner menu is divided into starters, first course, second course, sides and desserts. We ordered two first course and two second course items. Everything was excellent including the house red wine. Remember that there is a working beef cattle ranch associated with the hotel and the filet of beef and the meat rolled with cheese were outstanding. Our room (#23) has a queen sized bed; two pull out couches and vaulted ceilings with exposed beams. The only disadvantage is not being able to walk out of the hotel to a downtown area. But overall great choice!

Our group of 7 were all pleasantly surprised by this property -- more like a small resort than a city hotel. Nice looking, good atmosphere. Restaurant food was good, although a little difficult to order (could use more assistance by restaurant staff for those not familar with names of local cuisine). Rooms were comfortable, clean and ample for our short stay, and the van service from train station and to cruiseport was very convenient. Don't suggest trying to find it by yourself unless you know the area. Five star experience -- highly recommend.

Room Tip: If you can, try to get a room with view of cruiseport.

My family and I were leaving on the Oct 30th sailing of the Navigator of the seas. Since this property was highly rated on TripAdvisor we drove down the night before to ensure we were able to make the ship on time. The hotel is a bit difficult to find as the road was not on our GPS and to make matters worse Google has it wrong (actual location is Lat 11.8501 and Long 42.1056) but we called the front desk and they were able to guide us to the front door. The resort itself is rustic but very nice and clean. The best part was the people, the service and the food. We stayed one night, 4 people, in a large room for 110 euro. And had a free shuttle to and from the port (right to the ship!) and free parking for the week (port costs were 125 euro to park). I highly recommend this property for those traveling on a cruise.

Room Tip: The room was had backed to the restaurant. So it was a bit loud when trying to get kids to bed earl...

We stayed at this hotel for one night before boarding cruise the next day. We would have stayed longer. The accomodations were roomy and spotless. You felt like you were truly in country side of Italy. The staff at the front desk and in the restaurant we welcoming and most accommodating. The Restaurant was excellent and obviously popular with families that live in Civitavecchia. We truly felt like we were experiencing Italy like the locals.
Will definitely stay at this hotel again.

I recently spent two nights at the lovely Tenuta dell'Agento Resort before a cruise and had an wonderful stay. The hotel offers larger than normal rooms for a European hotels, clean accommodations, a large pool with a scenic view and extremely friendly staff. They offer free shuttle service from the local train station to the hotel. They also will shuttle you to and from downtown Civitavecchia and to the port for no charge. This is such a great place to stay before a cruise; you even are able to view the harbor and cruise ships from the hotel!

The hotel also has an outstanding restaurant that is reasonable priced. They have there own active ranch, so you know the beef is as fresh as can be! The wine is also reasonably priced, especially the house wine which was surprisingly good. We really enjoyed drinking a carafe of the wine on their outdoor patio at sunset looking out at the ocean. During certain times of the year they also offer activities such as horseback riding and they have mountain bikes available for guests' use. The free breakfast is decent and the coffee very good.

This is about as good an option as you can get for a pre cruise hotel stay. It also is a nice option if you want to explore Rome, but want to stay in a more tranquil area as Rome is easily accessible via the train from Civitavecchia. I highly recommend the Tenuta dell'Agento Resort.

We stayed here prior to our cruise out of Civitavecchia. The whole experience was a complete pleasure. We arrived (via train) at Civitavecchia station and after a quick phone call (all staff speak English) we were collected by a cheerie guy who was couldn't do enough for us. We were driven about 15 mins up in the hills to a beautiful "ranch" that is Tenuta Dell'Argento. The view from this place is stupendous and most importantly you can see the ships in the port. We were in room 23, a very spacious room with a vaulted ceiling and original beams. There is free Wi-Fi here and Sky Tv and all worked well. The bonus in this room is the great shower with power jets which was welcome after the flight. We ate twice here (Lunch & Dinner) and food was superb and the house wine (Red Montepulciano) was served cold (yes I know) but you must try it! Please don't think that this place is just a pre-cruise venue. You can get to the centre of Rome in around 40-50 mins and to me, this place is a fantastic sanctuary if you do a day in the city. Also a fantastic swimming pool here. Like the other reviews we got a free transfer to the ship (right to the ship side - not the port!) and all in all it was a great experience.

Room Tip: Room 25 has a panoramic window that overlooks the port.
