Villa susanna came as a breath of fresh air coming from a rather cramped hotel in paris as the room size was very reasonable and the price was the best part. The room was clean and the gentleman who welcomed us in and set us up with our room was extremly helpful giving us a map and letting us know good places to eat as well as the route to the port. The location was really great as it was only about a 10 minute walk from the port and it's all downhill so carrying luggage isn't much of a problem.
If you are coming in on the train the cab drivers will charge 10 euro to come here when it's only a 5-10 minute walk (a bit uphill) through a walkway built under all the train tracks. I personally suggest mapping it out before the trip to save a little extra cash if you are interested. I would definatly suggest this villa to stay at to anyone who is catching a cruise there as it really is prime location for a minimal cost.
My wife and I stayed at Villa Susanna the night before our cruise. We received a warm welcome from Liuge along with good advice as to where to get a good dinner, find an ATM, and how to get to the port the next morning. The hotel is spotless and the room was very nice. It was very quite, too. The train station was very close. The port entrance was a bit further, it takes only about 10 minutes to walk there and it's a gentle slope downwards to the port. Best memories of this hotel are the warm welcome, the cleanliness, and the quiet.
I would probably not spend more than 1 night here for pre cruise. Clean but old and spartan. The toilet and shower worked fine. A little bit difficult to find if walking. Good location. Nice family lives above and they give you directions and information. No breakfast there. Can walk to cruise dock entrance where there is a bus to take you to the correct ship. Train station is close to ship port and not difficult to take from or to airport with just 1 change. Remember to have your ticket stamped in machine before you get on train or find the conductor immediately. Big fines.
We arrived at villa Susanna late the night before the cruise and we're greeted on premises by the owner. He showed us or room as well as other seas if the B&B available to us during our stay. He also gave us an excellent reference for a local restaurant that was the best Italian drinking I've ever had! ( I think it was called Aqua). Our room was clean and comfortable and included a private bathroom. Villa Susanna is a close walk to/ from the train station as well as the cruise port. Will most definitely choose to stay their again!
We stayed here in October 2011 with our friends for one night before our cruise. We arrived a little late in the evening, but it was not a problem. Luige had left us notes and was there within 5 minutes. He is a very nice host and familiar with the cruise ships and shuttles etc.
We liked our spacious and clean room w/ ensuite bath. We had dinner at Acqua recommended by Luige and it was very good - about a 5 minute walk. I missed breakfast at the cafe the next am but our friends said it was excellent. This is where you have breakfast - a short walk and gratis of the Susanna. There is also a small kitchen in the Susanna with a fridge and coffee machine. You can sit out on the back porch in nice weather.
We walked from town to the Susanna, and it would have been faster if we knew where we were going and our map was better, but the next am it was an easy 10 minute walk with a suitcase and a pack pack each. Would not recommend if you have difficulties walking, but otherwise it is a great place and we will stay here again.
