“Bare Bones in every way”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 17, 2013

We booked this "hotel" when there was a train strike in Italy and we had to get to our destination one day earlier than planned.

It is more a hostel than a hotel. From arrival into the dingy lobby to our postage stamp sized room, this is not a place I would ever return to.

Carpet on stairs was dirty and worn, beds were awful with thin mattresses and noisy and uncomfortable springs, towels and sheets were threadbare and did not smell or feel clean.

Shower was lined with mold and very tiny.

I have not stayed in a place this basic since I was a college student backpacking in hostels in Italy.

Breakfast was as bare bones as the rooms.

We had just come from a hotel on the Ligurian coast where, for less money, we had a lovely room and an ocean view. It was night and day from this place.

I must say I am very confused by the rating this place has on Trip Advisor. It is a dump.

My advise is to stay far, far away.

Civitavecchia as a whole was charmless. The highlight of our stay was a tasty and reasonable priced dinner at Dal Griglio

Room Tip: Book an apartment if you plan to stay in the room for more than ten minutes.

Before responding to this review about our hotel I wanted to wait for it to pass the rage for all the lies and malice described much to be doubted if the 'author has really been our guest. Although Italian law gives the possibility to prosecute those who defames the end I thought that this character deserves it so much attention they'd rather spend my time to make a more comfortable stay for our guests.
And to Him I turn: Evidently all been waiting for your authoritative judgment of expert hostels.
We now know, thanks to you that Hotel Traiano is a hostel with all the services and facilities of a hostel:
1) The lobby is precisely that of a hostel, decorated salon with fine wood (cherry Tuscan) Venetian stucco walls, marble floors and paintings by author priprio are those of a hostel;
2) The rooms are those of a hostel, the smallest of 18 MQ and the largest of only 50 square metres, equipped with LCD television screen with satellite and pay-per-view, air-conditioning control, wi fi .
3) The breakfast follows the standards of a hostel, we serves fresh eggs every day for breakfast, cheese, cold meats, fresh pastas, pastries, yogurt, fruit juices, fresh fruit, cake, all kinds of coffee, three types of bread, etc etc..
4) The services are those of a hostel, free shuttle service to the cruise terminal, restaurant reservations and tour assistance multiliungue 24 hours a day.

Then. could it have happened that the carpet in the lobby was not perfectly clean in its path, even if it is cleaned twice a day : in the lobby go to our good fortune dozens of satisfied customers every day,
Finally we respect everyone's opinion especially those of our guests .
But the judgment that you gave of our hotel is offensive but mostly does not meet the reality , by reading and reviewing over 100 recensioni that define our excellent hotel.

If you are in the area for a cruise and need a hotel close by but do not want to spend a fortune, this is a very adequate place to stay. The breakfast is normal italian american version. The staff speaks english well enough to converse with. Rooms are what is expected in any italian hotel. The distance from the port is just over 1/2 a mile, a straight shot down the road. Quiet atmosphere if you have your room windows closed. Plenty of restaurants to choose from in the area, and most importantly a free shuttle is available to the port for those who refuse to walk or travel with bulky luggage. There is an elevator to each floor, albeit not very big. The room itself was small but manageable for 2 people, more than that would prove to be quite difficult to move around in. The shower is strictly a one person shower, as well as the bathroom in it's entirety, you will find maneuvering around difficult even for one person. Overall a pleasant experience.

Room Tip: ask for a queen bed instead of 2 twins, you will have more room space and comfort overall.

We stayed here for two days before our cruise. This hotel is about 1.5 hours from the city of Rome by train. The train station itself is about a 15 minute walk from this hotel also. It's also near a market, some eateries, and bars. The lobby is small but pretty and the bar/dining area is nice. The breakfast we had there for those two mornings was good and they had a nice selection of pastries, juices, etc. Our room had two twin beds as well as a double (two other twin beds put together). The room was spacious enough and all areas were very clean. The shower was somewhat small but it really wasn't a big deal. The beds were slightly hard and springy but luckily for me I can sleep anywhere on anything. They did have Free WiFi in the lobby and hotel room which was EXTREMELY REFRESHING and CONVENIENT. We didn't realize how spoiled we were until after we checked out of this hotel and boarded our ship where they CHARGED insane amounts for internet. All in all, we had a great experience here and would consider them again in the future.

Room was adequate in size. It was July and the air conditioning was not working well in our room. The bed was hard and the pillows were flat. Hotel staff were nice. Expedia recommeded this hotel. I think I could have done a little better on my own...

Room Tip: I like to travel in comfort. Research your hotel on Trip Advisor and see what others have to say be...

We stayed at Hotel Traiano for a couple of days prior to boarding a cruise ship. The room was very large, comfortable bed, hot showers and very clean. We had a room on the top floor so the room was very quiet. A buffet breakfast in the morning provided plenty to eat for the day. The hotel is about a 25 minute walk from the town centre, made a little difficult by narrow streets and little pedestrian walkways, but did provide a free shuttle to the port, which was very beneficial. We would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a pleasant stay in Civitavecchia, particularly if you are in transit to or from a cruise ship.

Room Tip: Civitavecchia has a lot to offer, spend an extra day or two.

We stayed here in July 2013 on the night before our cruise departure. I probably would have given this place a "very good" rating if it weren't for a couple key issues:
Cons:
* The AC went out for the entire building and was unable to be fixed causing it to be quite hot.
* The distance from the train station was significant so we had to take a cab. This hotel was a good value because of that distance. If it were closer to the station I am sure it would be a lot more expensive
* As far as I could tell only one person spoke english (or was confident enough to speak it) so be prepared to wait awhile for answers

Pros:
* Transportation to the cruise departure dock was free and arranged by reservation in advance so that there was no worry about whether we could get there on time.
* Breakfast was pretty extensive and included (but crowded)
* Our apartment included a washing machine (but no dryer- just a rack for drying your clothes on the terrace). The washing machine took a good 1.5 hours per load so be prepared.
* Our apartment was quite large. Huge really and a wrap around terrace outside.

Fun tip: We got to the hotel early enough that my husband took a 15 minute walk to the beach with our kids and they loved jumping in the sea from the rocks while I did the laundry.

Bottom line: I would stay here again despite the extra effort required because it was a great value for a family of 5

Room Tip: If you get an apartment, ask for one on the roof (there are two up there) where you get a great view...

Stayed here 16-18 August prior to taking a cruise with our 2 children. It was clean, comfortable, friendly and in a perfect position for the beach, promenade, restaurants, shops. We were surprised to see that our room had cooking facilities and a washing machine- Rm 207... The staff were lovely, and were so helpful. Veronica and Gianni, at front of house were fantastic, even helping us book a meal in a restaurant in Rome for the following week-( our Italian was poor, and their English was perfect). A big thank you to them both
.We would highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Room 207.....2 adjoining rooms with cooking facilitties and washing machine
