We were driving to Capalbio to make a visit to our favorite distillery (fyi, Jacobelli Liquori) and when we arrived for a look-see in Civitavecchia, we decided to spend the night. Arriving at the Hotel De La Ville with no reservations, we were greeted professionally. We were told where we could park our car (in the hotel's secure private lot) and were handed the keys to our room, a suite in the front corner of the hotel, with a dramatic ocean view.
Aside from the fantastic view, the room itself was in need of a little TLC (stains on the carpet, distracting marks on the wall as if someone let their child loose with a marker pen) and a very foul odor. We decided to open both the windows in the room, and see if we could blow some fresh air through to eliminate the smell (we didn't want to complain to the desk and risk loosing the fabulous view). Sure enough, after returning from our afternoon stroll, the odor was gone.
The bathroom was clean and stocked with basic soap and towels. We slept well with no noise from outside, even though the hotel (and our room) faced the main, busy street leading through Civitavecchia and it's ports.
In the morning, breakfast was served in a visually interesting room, just off from the front desk. An assortment of decent breads and the usual cold suspects were served, along with fresh made-to-order coffees. All the staff we encountered during our stay were professional...helpful, but not overly ingratiating.
I wish there was a tripadvisor rating somewhere between "average" and "very good"...the Hotel de La Ville offers spectacular views with it's brilliant location, while the condition of the room felt as if it had been over-looked.
All said, we would (with lower expectations) return to the Hotel De La Ville the next time we find ourselves in Civitavecchia.

Room Tip: Our corner suite had spectacular views! Considering the compromised condititon of the room, we prob...

We needed a place for one night and this hotel was just OK. The location is very good, just a few meters from the harbour and train station, and downtown. Our room was big enough, for 2 adults and 2 children, was clean, not perfect but OK. My son (14y) slept alone in a bed, our daughter (11y) with us in a wrilly big bed.
Breakfast was good, ordered cappuccino for free.

If you are going on a cruise and need to be near the port- stay here its really ok for the night.
Our room was ok with a view to the sea , the breakfast was average. Its not somewhere where I would stay for a holiday, but a one night before a cruise is fine! Also the older man at reception when we arrived was not very welcoming

From the first meeting with the check-in clerk this was a bad experience. He was rude and never offerred a true welcome or help with anything from luggage to information about the "suite". Are you kidding me? The TV, a 16 inch model at best didn't work. No chairs in the sitting room. A lousy single bed up a rickety staircase to a dimly lit bathroom. A noisy ineffective air conditioner. No bar and no restaurant. Were told we could walk to the port with our 3 pieces of luggage and 2 carry-ons for a 2 week cruise. All this for $200. Euros. What a rip off. Think I will fire my travel agent.

Room Tip: There is another hotel a door down. Too bad we didn't have reservations there. We ended up usi...

Stayed here for one night prior to a crusie. May 4th 2012. We found the Hotel very friendly and above all clean. The room was nicely furnished and the bathroom was spotless. The breakfast was acceptable although not a great choice. The Hotels location is ideal for both the Train station and the cruise port. Both are within 5 minutes walking distance. I would use this Hotel again.

Room Tip: Rooms on the 3rd floor are best although the lift was rather slow.

We stayed here for one night before boarding our cruise ship. The bed cover smelt like dirty hair and the one in the cupboard even worse. When we went for breakfast in the morning we had to wait for almost everything to be replenished, as they had run out of almost everything, coffee, plates, saucers etc. and don"t dare to ask the waitress for anything as she responds to everything quite rudely with: "if i have time" and the receptionist expected us to carry our own toilet roll to the room when we had to ask for it. The hotel is also run down.

There are other hotels within 200 feet nicer and lower in price....... I mean, the reason for staying here usually is to wait for your cruise ship to arrive. This hotel is about $50 a night more expensive than the others and has nothing to offer for the higher price. It is old, sort of run down, the mattresses are questionable but definitely old........ paint peeling, bathroom only a stall shower, just generally run down........... plus internet as is usual these days is extra! Also beware of the city tax now on all hotels in Italy....... not mentioned otherwise and is above whatever you pay for your stay. I would not come back to this hotel given the alternatives nearby.

By the way, Civitivechia is a nice place in its own right. Beautiful ocean views, clean air, gentle breezes, very laid back town, some shopping, but basically a beautiful place if you just want to rest up.............

Room Tip: I asked for ocean front and they had it so they gave it to me. I also asked for internet for free si...
