Hotel Porto di Roma
Ranked #9 of 40 Civitavecchia B&B and Inns
Reviewed May 21, 2012

We stayed here prior to leaving for a 7 day cruise. The hotel was difficult to find from the train station but after a few wrong turns we found it. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. Our room was comfortable and clean. It was a short walk to the pier for the cruise and the staff provided us with a map. If we ever leave from Civitavecchia again, this is where we will stay.

The staff member was particularly helpful on both arrival and departure. My luggage was carried in from the taxi as well as up and down the stairs. My specific room requests were taken into account. Information and directions were freely provided. A taxi was phoned for my departure. The room and bed were clean and comfortable for my overnight stay. Civitavecchia is a small town and the hotel is in very easy walking distance of the shops, old town, port, etc. The only negative was the automatic vending machines in the hallway outside my room were noisy and a disturbance when they were used during the night.

Room Tip: A quiet room away from the vending machines in the hallway.

Hotel Porto di Roma is SO cute! The staff here was amazing! We stayed one night prior to a cruise, and would definitely come back. It is not the most fancy hotel in Civitavecchia, but I don't think 2 stars does it justice.

This is only one of two hotels we stayed in while in Italy - this one definitely had small rooms, but they were nice and clean.

We booked this room for one night prior to a cruise. Our booking was based on trip advisor reviews and cost. The room was clean and comfy. Nice bed. Although the room was one floor up and there was no lift, the staff brought up our bags with smiling faces. Great service and the staff offered suggestion for nearby restaurants and shopping. Nice open air market behind the hotel. Easy walk to the port entrance. Bottom line, I'd go again.

Room Tip: Not the easiest to find. Keep their phone number in case of a problem.

We ALWAYS prefer to book a hotel near our cruise port the night before departure and this fit the bill 100%. Great rate. A mere 10 minute walk to the port bus pick up point. Super clean. Comfy bed. There is a street market just two blocks away and we found great prices on Murano glass pendants and jewelry the morning before leaving. A supermarket is an additional two blocks and we found terrific wines at prices in the range of $3 - $6. We cheated a bit and we each brought two bottles of wine / champagne on board the Celebrity Silhouette - instead of the two per cabin they allow. Two hints: the walk from the train station is easy and no more than 15 - 20 minutes BUT cross the street and walk on the prominade on the ocean side of the street. It is flat and curb free. Second: my google map had us taking corners and turns to get to the hotel. After arriving and doing a walkabout we found a simpler and stair free route. Instead of turning right at Mc Donalds, go straight on another couple blocks and at the 1st street after the church turn right, up the hill three blocks to the dead end. Look left and there's the hotel sign! Hassle free check in and warm greeting.

We booked this hotel online and based our choice on the reasonable rates and the fact that several cruisers (who we thought migh be quite fussy!) recommended the hotel. Walking from the station it took a little while to find as it is tucked away in the middle of the 'Old town@ so a taxi might be best for first time visitors - once you know the way it's easy and walking distance from the station. Cannot stress enough how helpful and friendly the English speaking staff are - insisting on carrying our bags, helping with enquiries and directions. There are bars and restaurants nearby and a daily local market where you can buy just about anything including your breakfast. Civitavecchia is worth a look around - if you can stay a day or so it is well worth exploring when the cruise liners have all departed - by day there are good shops, a beach and shady squares where you can just sit and watch the world go by. At night the locals come out to meet, gossip and eat, there are some fine seafood restaurants and excellent bars at a fraction of Rome costs. If time, a visit to the hill town of Tarquinia is an easy trip - one stop on the train,

We arrived at night before our cruise and took a quick taxi ride to this spot. Once the sun came out we were able to appreciate how great of a location this was. The man who greeted us came out to our taxi and made us feel right at home. He spoke English well which helped us. He was very helpful and insisted on taking the baggage and wouldn't accept a tip! The morning woman was the same and even let us use her computer when their Internet was down. She also loaded up our luggage in a way that made it easy for us to carry them to the port. The room was very clean and nice. But the service was really great. If you are going on a cruise you should definitely stay here. we would have been able to walk from the station but we weren't familiar with the area. We did walk to the port the next day, no problem. Check in is before eleven pm, so make sure you are there! Our flights were delayed and we cut it a bit close!
