“5th stay here”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

This was our 5th stay in this family owned and operated hotel. very clean and well kept. Restaurant is excellent if you do not want to walk into town . The walk into town is very doable but for those who are not WALKERS it might not be easy. A short taxi ride would be minimal in cost and lots of restaurants in town.
Our room was clean and well kept as before and large enough to store all luggage for a long cruise. Johnny and Alesandro are the owner/managers and one is there all the time. There is now wifi in room and we used our IPAD easily. bathrooms are small but very clean. Free transport to the port is included which is wonderful. We will continue to stay here anytime we cruises from this port!

Room Tip: ask for front location as you have a view of the sea and a soccer field!

We stayed here for two nights prior to a cruise in November, 2012. The staff is well prepared to assist cruise passengers. All of the staff was very friendly. They were helpful in arranging transportation from downtown Rome and provided willing transportation to the cruise terminal. A person can walk to downtown, but I would estimate it is about a mile. We handled that just fine, but if their van was available, the staff readily took us downtown. Civitavecchia is not a particularly great place to do touristy things, but all of the people were friendly and it was a relaxing atmosphere. Highly recommend this place.

Room Tip: There is a very busy soccer field about a 1/2 mile away. Some of the noise filters into the hotel u...

We stayed here pre cruise. It is super clean, with a lot of attention paid to wiping down all surfaces. The room and beds were very comfortable and well maintained. They offer a free shuttle to the port, which is great. It's very close to the ocean, but most of the shoreline is privately held. It is a bit out of town, but an interesting walk in. There isn't a great deal to see near the hotel, just a football field and homes. We ate at the hotel restaurant, it was good, maybe a bit overpriced for the area, but we didn't feel like going in (we had walked in in the afternoon approx. two miles each way) to town again. There is a restaurant not too far away (towards town) that may be worth a try. Civitavecchia is definitely feeling the crunch of the economic slowdown, but still a nice place to see before you cruise out. Also very relaxing versus trying to get from Rome to cruise the same day!

Room Tip: There are various room sizes to choose from. You can't see the ocean from the hotel and you'...

We have stayed here twice (Oct 2012 an 2011) on both occasions the evening prior to taking a cruise. The hotel provides a transfer to the terminal if required, included in the proice of the stay.
Rooms are good, if a little on the small size, and provided with TV and WiFi.
We have taken evening meals in the hotel on both occasions and the food has been very good. There are alternatives nearby and obviously much more in the centre of town, but I would be quite happy to eat in house again.
It is a long walk into the centre of Civitavecchia but worth while if you have the time.

I studied the Civitavecchia options in detail before choosing this hotel for our pre-cruise overnight. Two members of our party four had mobility issues, so I needed to make the right choice. If we stayed right in town, we'd have access to restaurants, the promenade area, shops, etc., but research indicated we might have to walk ourselves and luggage to the pier shuttle -- not an acceptable option. Staying at Hotel Borgo del Mare meant we'd be a bit further out and more isolated, but have access to a hotel-to-pier shuttle. That's what made our choice. (In fact, the hotel shuttle took us right to the ship, not just the to the pier shuttle as I'd originally read.) When we reached the hotel, we were a bit early and our rooms weren't ready. The staff showed us where to store our luggage; our two mobility-challenged people relaxed on the hotel patio while the third member of our party and I returned our car to the Fiumicino airport area (an hour's drive south). We returned to Civitavecchia from the airport by train in another hour (an easy route with one change of trains and only E11 each). At the Civitavecchia train station there was no sign of any cabs, so we decided to walk to the hotel. I didn't time it, but it took certainly under 30 minutes. I wouldn't recommend this walk in very hot weather. The sidewalk does disappear for a while, so care must be exercised. Dinner and breakfast at the hotel were both fine. We were especially pleased with breakfast. I recommend this hotel for an overnight experience without hesitation.

This was a good hotel for the evening before a cruise. Yes it does not have a pool and yes it is a good walk to the downtown area and yes the rooms are a little small but it is clean and comfortable and the staff were more than helpful and friendly. The room had a fridge which was great to keep some perishables cool so that you could enjoy a snack in the evening. The breakfast served as part of your cost was fine contrary to some other reviews. Is it 5 star stuff...no...but it is enough to tie you over until you get to where you are going. Also, it comes with a free shuttle. Yeah you get to the port a little early but so what, at least you got there. As for the walk to downtown, I was able to make it in 15 minutes of brisk walking. Walk like you belong people and you will get there. I would not suggest hauling your luggage mind you as it is a haul and you do run out of sidewalk a couple of times.
All in all, in my opinion I got what I paid for and I was happy.

Room Tip: Ask for the water view, it is better than the alley view.
