I have given this hotel a 5 star rating though it is of course not a 5 star hotel, far from it. However it's not often you get value for money like this. We stayed at this hotel the night before we joined our cruise, and again the night we got back from the cruise before our flight the next day.

The welcome was warm and in good English. From our experience, there was one man (the one who greeted us on arrival) who spoke fluent English. The other staff spoke enough to get by.
If I had to draw any negative it would only be that there are a few stairs to negotiate to get to the lift, and the lift itself is really small. Anyone with limited mobility would find it difficult especially with luggage. If you come with lots of luggage you may need to make more than one trip up the elevator. However I am sure the staff would lend a hand without hesitation.

That aside, our room on the first night was of a good size, everything was clean. Soap, shampoo, conditioner, shower cap, shoe shine and cotton buds provided as well as a hairdryer. We slept well in the bed. We chose this hotel because of it's location close to the port. In the morning the fellow showed us on a map how to get to a nearby bus-stop where we could catch the free shuttle to the port. We went and checked it out before we needed to go and a good thing we did as it was a bit tricky to find but we found it. The main terminal is much further down near the fortress, so this saved us quite a walk. Coming back we couldn't get off at the same stop as there is no parking on the other side of the road, but we were let out a little further down near some steps, still closer to the hotel than the main terminal.

We got in quite late but there was a pizzeria next door still open where we bought some pizza with a lot of gesturing to cut through the language barrier. Good enough to hit the spot before retiring - and cheap.

In the morning a continental buffet breakfast was provided - juice, cereal, yoghurts, cold meats & cheeses, bread, rolls, croissants and a range of cakes and sweet pastries, as well as of course tea and coffee.

No hassle at all with payment and we were happy to return at the end of our cruise. For the same price, this time we were given "the penthouse" - we previously had one of the 4th floor rooms (with a good view) but this time we had the largest room in the hotel - it came with a huge balcony and the room itself was very spacious as was the bathroom. Pity it was a bit windy or we would have eaten dinner (pizza again) on the balcony.

We had previously had an issue with the airport shuttle service getting us to this hotel so we were concerned if they would arrive on time to pick us up. They were due at 8 and they rang right on 8 to say they were running late but we had just left the room to go downstairs and missed the call. The partly-English spoken lady relayed the message and as we were concerned, rang back the company to double check - and we were then told they would be another 10 mins (in fact they were longer, but that's another story).

We were also able to use their computer and printer to print out our boarding passes, which was appreciated. The hotel has free wifi which is of quite an acceptable speed, especially compared to what you get in the various cafes around town (beware you are expected to buy something first for your "free wifi" and then find out it's of little use - ask to test it out first if possible. )

We were more than happy with our experience at the hotel and would certianly use it again.

Hubby picked this one out from Tripadvisor. Not a bad place, but we've never been in such a basic room. It was clean, had a bar of soap and a hair dryer. Bed was simple, firm mattress, plain linens.

Although near the port gate, there's NO way to walk to the ships with luggage. You need to catch the shuttle that goes back and forth from the security gate into the port over to the pier.

We're travel agents and look for accommodations that we would feel comfortable in recommending to our clients. I'm not sure about this one - I may consider it for families and budget conscience, but I can't see most of my friends here.

The front desk was very helpful as was the breakfast staff - although I can't say much for the breakfast itself. It held us over until we boarded the ship.

The location is near a number of restaurants and bars that line the main street. If you're taking a cruise and will be taking the train afterwards, do NOT buy transfers to the train station (we headed up to Orvieto for four days - see my posts - after the cruise). The shuttle bus will take you right up to the port's security gates - the train station is an easy 10 minute walk from there.

Emailed the hotel for directions from the train station, immediate response from Alessandro which was very helpful. When we arrived at the hotel we had no luggage as KLM had left it in Amsterdam,Guiseppe made numerous phone calls on our behalf, which we thought was very kind of him,we eventually got our bags. The room was very clean and a nice size, ideal location for the cruise port. The continental breakfast choice was very good. The all round service in this hotel was 5 star and the next time we cruise from Civitavecchia we will definitely stay at the Traghetto.

The Hotel is clean and in good position, has free WiFi which was of benefit to me as i was able to contact home on a dayly basis using skype.

The staff: Giuseppe, Alessandro, Valerio and Rosella were outstanding.! Wonderful pre-cruise location. Only a 10 to 15 minute walk from the train station and a 5 minute walk to the port. On day of cruise, due to rain, we decided to take the hotel shuttle for 5 Euros each and it was well worth it, as we were driven directly to the ship. The hotel room was a good size, very clean and comfortable. Air conditioning, hair dryer, free WI-FI and great TV channel selection was a bonus. The continental breakfast was not your typical Italian "coffee and croissant" breakfast but rather quite complete with a good variety. Rosella, the lady in charge of the continental breakfast was very pleasant and friendly and whipped-up delicious cappuccino's. During the booking process, all my e-mails were answered promplty and I was given great and accurate information. We arrived at this hotel 3 nights before the cruise and loved it. We were worried about finding our stay too long, however Giuseppe gave us ideas on what to do while in town. Giuseppe was extremely helpful, friendly, professional and courteous. He answered all our questions, recommended restaurants, explained how to get to the local mall, looked-up train information and even took the time to write out the schedule for us. In addition, he happened to come in on his day off and still took the time to help us out! We were very impressed with this man! In Giuseppe's absence we were greeted by Alessandro, also very pleasant, helpful and professional. We liked this hotel so much that we came back for another night post-cruise. We will definitely recommend this hotel to all our friends and family. Convenient location, comfort, cleanliness, price and staff friendliness make this hotel a wonderful place to stay. Looking forward to staying there again real soon. Thank you "Il Traghetto", keep up the good work!
