“Excellent hotel for a pre-cruise night.”
Reviewed June 3, 2011

After an extensive internet research, we decided to stay at Hotel Miramare on May 21 for a pre-cruise night. It was only for my wife and I and we are both 30yrs of age. We got to the hotel via private transportation and our first impression was great. The hotel is small, but it had all that we needed. The location is excellent. Our check in was fast & smooth and the front desk agent was corteous. The room was big and comfortable and it was with full ocean view, also with a private balcony. There are lots of places to eat around the hotel and the night life was very active (it was Saturday). We had a great night sleep after a long journey from the US and the air conditioner worked at its best. The next morning we checked out (after having free breakfast) and decided to walk to the port. We could have taken a shuttle from the hotel (15euros) but we wanted to walk since we wanted to see all around. We had 3 roller bags but that was no problem for us. The day of the cruise (Sunday) you see a lot of people walking around with their bags to the port. It was a 15 minute walk to the port but it was fun since the way to the port is full of vendors, restaurants & hotels. About halfway we stopped at a cafe and had a couple of beers since it was kind of early to board the ship. We fully recommend this hotel!

Very helpful staff, who were able to converse in English fairly well. Good, clean, quiet, spacious room. Everything in the room was in good working condition and the room was more like a suite than a simple hotel room. Very high ceilings and great view from the balcony overlooking the water. Within walking distance to train station and some restaurants. A little further walk will take you to the cruise port and other shopping and open air markets.
European hotels are definitely older, and this hotel is no exception, so don't expect a new building. There's an elevator that is quite small, but believe me - if you've got to haul your luggage up flights of stairs - you'll be grateful that this one does have a small operational elevator. Breakfast was okay. Mostly cold food - cereal, yogurt, fruit, danishes. Can't remember if they offered anything that would be considered a hot breakfast. Coffee was good and strong, which is what I needed in the morning. Overall, very happy with what we got for the price. Good value.

Room Tip: If you can, ask for a room overlooking the water.

Stayed at Miramare for three days prior to our Carnival Transatlantic cruise. Wonderful hotel; clean, friendly staff and extremely convenient! A 10 mins walk to the train station, very practical to take day trip to Rome which is about an hour and a half away (only hassle is to cross the street to get to it). Walkable distance to the cruise terminal and once you get there there's a shuttle to take you to the pier. Traveled with my 69 year old mom who had little trouble getting around. Very quiet area and very quaint. Needed to stay connected and they offered free Wi-Fi. DEFINITELY would recommend!

We chose this hotel like relax after 3 days discovering Roma. It was simply great stay! Hotel is really directly on the molo (Pirgo), near of train station and centre. Rooms are big, with balcony, every room has nice view on the sea. The city is quite sleeping during day but evening is full of life. We tasted meals there 3-times in 3 different restaurants and everything was great!!! Hotel has own restaurant and every sunday is "fruti di mare" day, all meals are with something from the sea.

This hotel was ideal for our 1-night stay in Civitavecchia. Our room was spacious, with a nice sized bathroom and small balcony overlooking the waterfront. We had dinner at the 'pizza place' recommended by the hotel and it was wonderful - truly italian pizza and chianti! The next morning we
pulled our luggage and walked a short distance to the dock to board our cruise ship (or you can take a taxi from the hotel). A bus will pick you up at the dock entrance and take you to your ship.

We stayed in the Hotel Miramare for one night before boarding our cruise ship. We didn't request a non-smoking room and there may not be one at this hotel, but the smoke smell was very strong. The room was bright and the view of the sea from a small balcony was excellent. The balcony was great for people watching and the promenade area is adjacent to hotel. The bathroom was very modern and clean. There was a lot of noise from street below until closing and the bed wasn't very comfortable, a foam mattress pad might make a difference here. There wasn't a mattress pad at all under the sheet, which should be mandatory in a hotel room, imho. Our room was on the 1st floor, it may be quieter on higher levels. Staff were friendly and the capuccino at the continental breakfast was delicious. The hotel is located about two blocks from the train station which is nice if you've arrived by train. Recommended with reservation: ask for non-smoking room and a foam mattress pad. Considering the location, in a cruise port, this hotel is fairly good value.
