Il Baracchino is definitely one of my favourite restaurants!
Its a winding drive up to Tirli, the hill village on whose outskirts sits Il Baracchino. Along the drive the views of the pine forests of the Maremma are enchanting, especially when you reach the restaurant. Go there for lunch and your view will reach the sea. Go there for dinner and gaze at the sun setting behind the hills. As I am writing this, my computer's desktop image is taken from the car park of Il Baracchino!
But on to the food. The food is of a very very good! As the other reviewer wrote, it is typical Maremma style food, with wild boar meat (cinghiale) featuring a lot on the menu. My favourites: mixed crostini, ragu tagliatelle, cinghiale sausages and beans, tiramisu! However, it is a bit on the expensive side.
The owners of the restaurant are very friendly and welcoming. They seem to know a lot of the people there so I think its popular with the locals. Service is very good.
The atmosphere is exciting. You walk down a steep path to get to the restaurant (though don't panic, its not challenging!), with the views over the Maremma to your left and forest rising on your right. You can sit on benches or in a warm conservatory area. There is a park for children to play in or for a peaceful passagiatta after eating, where you can see... (and you guessed it) the magnificent view! Or if its too dark, just hear the buzzing of cicadas in warm summer air.
So go there! xx
