Cefalù - Pronounced ChefalU - accent on the last syllable. A lovely hotel along the coast from Palermo set up above the town in well tended gardens, with a delightful pool. Comfortable rooms (or at least once the Air conditioning was sorted out) with pleasant balcony views. Friendly and efficient staff .
It's a little hike into the world of old-Cefalu , with its many restaurants and shopping, and over 170 steps back up the hill to work off the calories. No problems for us with the shuttle bus, but the hotel beach wasn't very impressive, unlike the hotel itself with whizzy car parking doubling up as photovoltaic power generation.
Pity the town couldn't collect its trash more often, and be prepared to speak Italian - you can't presume that everyone will speak English. Likewise the range of Digital TV channels - all in Italian.
We found it easy to get about on the trains - which run along the coast - and enjoyed the weekly market behind the massive rocky outcrop which defines the town. No problems either with the local supermarkets/street stalls for excellent fruit / veg / food for picnics.More
