My second visit to this place, and the last one was 30 years ago. It reminded me of one of the reasons Cefalu is one of my favorite places in the world. The climb is challenging, but well worth it. When you get to the fork in the path pointing you to the castle or the archeological site, I recommend the archeological site -- or do both! Weather in November was brilliantly sunny and temperate.

Large rock at the end of Cefalu. There are ruins and a steep path to the top. The view is amazing when you get there. Half way up there is a view from the path just above the height of the old town which is very interesting

Amazing views overlooking Cefalu and along the coast are the ample rewards for climbing to top of the 250 m La Rocco. Look for the signposted path along the right side of the Duomo in the main piazza. Follow the signs to the base of the climb where a £4 entry fee is required. You will need to have the correct coinage to feed the ticket machine
The first part of the climb is largely up stone stairs, up past an ancient stone wall. Here one can go left to the Temple of Diana or right to continue to the top. The path deteriorates and becomes rougher with some loose stones toward the peak, for this reason proper footwear is recommended. The climb is achievable for anyone of reasonable fitness, just take you time.
Allow several hours to fully explore the various ruins and the appreciate the scenery which just gets better and better as you climb higher. Best to avoid the heat of the middle of the day as there is little shade and take plenty of water.

to get to the top but well worth the effort for the view. And going down again is a lot faster of course

Great climb (only one way up and down) with tremendous views at the top. Historically fascinating. Most people were finding the descent trickier than the climb.

Climbing La Rocca is a must in Cefalu. Take some water with you especially if you do it during the warm hours. Each step is worth the effort to have the fantastic view on the coast and the mountains.

Well worth the 4 Euro entry fee. Incredible views over Cefalù.

Very demanding walk up the rock so come prepared, and maybe consider a picnic and taking 2-3 hours at a leisurely pace as there’s a lot more to see than you might realise.

One of the best things we did in Sicily.

There is a €4 each charge and discount for over 65's.If it's very hot best to do early morning or late afternoon but depending on time of year it will tell you when it will close. Its a good idea to take water and wear sensible shoes. Its a steep climb and you should allow yourself at least 2 hours to explore the whole area. There is a ruined castle with great views down east and west of Cefalu.Than drop down to Diana Temple and the cross that lights up at night above the town. Its also give you a good view down into the old town and harbour of Cefalu.

We did this walk in a group of 5 and it was very enjoyable. We arrived at 9am as recommended by reviews and it was a great time to do it with very little Congestion.
The views are amazing and have to be see while in cefalu.

Make sure you are fit and wear flat sensible shoes, preferably running shoes. The trails are very uneven and steep in parts but the view is worth it, we got lost going down and it gets very hot. Take water and have correct coins for ticket as they don't give change.
