“one night stop over”
Reviewed April 2, 2013

Myself and a friend stayed here whilst walking the Cotswold way. Its in a good location in the centre of the village right on the trail and not far from the excellent local pub. Upon arrival I was surprised that no one was there to greet us and I had to ring a mobile number that we eventually found stuck on the back door to speak to Jill only for her to tell us we could just go in. Once inside we found our twin room which was nice if a little odd having a double 4 poster and a short single bed. The house is lovely though and was certainly very clean and comfortable while we were there. Breakfast was excellent and the staff very friendly. Everyone sits around one table and I quite enjoyed chatting to the other guests. This might not be to everyone's taste though especially if you struggle in the mornings. There is a card machine now so no probs if you don't have cash. Overall I would recommend The Vine and I would stay there again.

I challenge you to find a more picturesque village anywhere. The Vine is run by a busy, working family who open up their stunning olde-worlde home to their visitors, this suits us as a group of four girls who go back year after year. The gorgeous log fire, mis-matched furniture and bedding add to the cosy charm of the place and make for a relaxed vibe. It is best suited to relaxed, horsey people on a break rather than those looking for a luxury retreat where your every whim is catered for. The breakfast is particularly delicious and Sally is a wonderful friendly face in the morning!
If you are an experienced rider then the equestrian centre comes even more highly recommended as they have really quality horses and some fantastic instructors who can take you out cross country schooling....And Alan is great to go out hacking with if you are looking for speed!

We booked the B&B mostly because my kids wanted to do some pony riding the next day. The B & B is a 16th building in a lovely town, and it is not meant to be a posh or modern place. It is somewhat hard to find, as it does not have signs out front or from the main road. We had to ask a local and drove by it a couple of times. Helps to look at some pictures online before you go so you know what it looks like.

As people have mentioned, the owner is often not on-site so you have to go through the side/back door and find a note on the desk for you with instructions. The house is old so the stairs are narrow and floorboard creak, and you have to share the WC - but if you have an open mind you will appreciate its character and charm. We got the family room- not big, but the beds were comforable and it felt cozy. We were the only guests there so it was quiet. On a more crowded night, the creaky floors and the shared bathroom might put some people off.
Sally the housekeeper/cook was friendly and cheerful and we had a delicious full breakfast cooked to order. The breakfast room was Victorian and had a large dining table which can probably seat 8 people. If all the rooms were occupied, people probably have to eat in shifts and share table with strangers. Sally also called the Equestrian Center and made the reservation for the pony rides for us. The center is about 5 min away by car down the road, and the kids had a great time.

We were walking the Cotswold Way. Got there and no one was home. Called two different numbers we had for that property. Finally got someone. Turns out the back door was unlocked and we were suppose to just go in and find the note on the desk. Got attacked by their dog, smoked out when the fire fell out of the fireplace, fortunately the house didn't burn down. The furniture appears to date back to when the house was built. So does the dust.

It was bad from the start and just stayed that way until breakfast. They hired someone to do breakfast and that was good, but not good enough to ever get us to come back again. Never again.

Room Tip: Yes, I would advise getting a room somewhere else.

We had a great time at the Vine B&B in Stanton. We had the room in the attic, which was romantic and pretty. The welcome there is great and the breakfast is glorious! The village is one of the most beautiful in Cotswolds and there are plenty of nice restaurants around to accommodate you for your lunches and dinners (I strongly recommend the Broadway Hotel restaurant in Broadway, and the Mount In pub in Stanton).

We combined our stay at the B&B with some horse hacks at the Jill Carranza Equestrian Center, which is the horse riding club of the B&B owner. We had the best hacks of our life there and it was worth every penny. The horses are good and the instructors are brilliant (special thanks to Charlotte, Alan and Jackie). If you are tired of being treated like a beginner (when you are not) by some clubs that do not want to run any risk anymore, then this is the place to go. What a great freedom there and the scenery are magic.

Just go for it, I know that we'll be back asap!!

Beautiful B&B in the tiny village of Stanton outside of Broadway. Hard to find (in the dark), but worth it once you are there. Warm fire in the fireplace to great you when you get in. The breakfasts were superb - and the hospitality was fabulous. Great when paired with horseback riding at the owner's Equestrian Centre down the road.

On first glance, beautiful village & beautfiful bed and breakfast. Once inside things began to deteriorate. There was no one to greet us or show us to our room or explain about breakfast. There was a short note to tell us where our room was. We had booked a family room for my mum, sister and myself. The room was tiny with one double (four poster) and a single about 6 inches apart. There was no toilet only a tiny shower in one corner and a hand basin next to the toothpaste splattered wardrobe. The mirror over the hand basin was also splattered with someone else's spit and toothpaste. The basin itself had used soap from a previous guest in it. The towels did not smell very clean and the room felt grubby and the canopy over the bed was dusty and ripped. There was no fire evacuation plan anywhere to be seen in the room and there was no way of locking the room whilst we were out for the evening. The electrics in the room were extremley dated and only one plug socket was available however an extension block was available. Once plugged in to have both the kettle and hair dryer on this caused a trip hazard in the already cramped room. A breakfast menu had been placed in the room for us to complete by 7.30 that evening for the following morning stating what time we would like breakfast, the choices being 8.00am or 9.15am. We stated our preference to be 9.15. The following morning we were woken at 7.50 asking if we could come for breakfast at 8 or 10.00am instead of our preferred option of 9.15 as a hen party all wanted serving at 9.15. To oblige we agreed to 10am but still had to wait until 10.20 to be seated for breakfast. On paying we had to travel to the equestrian centre to pay as there was no chip and pin facility in the house. We paid the £97 per room reluctantly and were never asked if everything had been ok. I would never recommend this B&B to anyone and would strongly suggest that a health and safety inspector should visit this establishment. I would rather sleep in the car than stay in this B&B.

Room Tip: Go to another B&B
