“Wonderful holiday with Bolero at Union Lido”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 19, 2013

A wonderful resort, made better by staying with Bolero. We only left the Park twice and that was to go to Venice. There was just so much to do you never got bored. And our family do get bored easily.
We booked a flight to Venice and then caught the coach and the bus to the Park. I was worried it may be difficult but it was a breeze and was so much cheaper than a taxi. The Park is so clean and well presented. Beautiful flowers and Pine trees. The restaurants are reasonably priced on the site and the takeaway family pizzas are enormous. I loved the Spa and they are well worth paying a bit more money to go into. Children are even allowed on certain days. The children had never been in to a spa before and loved it.
I don't think we did the same thing twice, we kept discovering new parts of the site.
Bolero were amazing the mobile homes were lovely and kept really cool with the air conditioning. The children loved the free DVD rental and the use of beach equipment. There was a Bolero BBQ one night which was great to meet other families. They even had veggie burgers in the on-site supermarket. One night there was a firework display on the beach which was amazing.

One day my son got badly sunburnt and went into shock. There was a thunderstorm at the same time. I wanted to get him to the onsite (free) doctor but he could not walk. Bolero came to the rescue and immediately got a car and drove him there. It is reassuring to know that the Bolero team are always around to help and speak English.
The only downside was that there were lots of Mosquitos and after we had the thunderstorm we were getting bitten all the time even with protection on. My son and partner did have bites that really swelled up and were painfully.
We would definitely like to go back one day.

We were a group of 7 families all with teenage children. We found the site facilities fantastic during the day, but come 11pm at night everything on site closed, they may have sold you a drink at 10 55pm but took the chair from under you at 11pm and expected you to be finished. The staff in the bars were afraid that if they didnt clear the premises exactly at 11pm they may lose their contract. Their was nowhere for us to go except bed. The 14 adults wanted to sit somewhere to enjoy a few drinks and a chat but there was nowhere on site. The teenagers were fed up because the disco was empty and you had to stay inside or go home. They eventually started going to a disco outside the site which we were not entirely comfortable with, safety wise, it defeated the purpose of choosing a campsite so that we would always know where they were. We all felt the camp site was like a luxury prison camp!!! This was our third year in italy camping and none of us would go back to this site. Its only suitable for couples with toddlers who want to go to bed at 11. All other sites have a communal area where you can congregate after 11pm away from the accomodation

Our family of 6, first visited Union Lido in August 2011 and enjoyed our holiday so much that we decided to return the following year in August 2012.

We stayed with both Bolero and Select Camp in August 2011 as we only could find two separate weeks at a time as the campsite was fully booked when we booked in May 2011! We learnt our lesson and booked Bolero for August 2012, just after our holiday in August 2011! We prefer the location of Bolero compared to Select Camp as Bolero is closer to the amenities like the Supermarket, Beach and Swimming pool. Select Camp is closer to the other swimming pool but it takes ages to walk to the main areas!

Our children are aged 9, 7, 4 and 2. We booked a Torcello Mobile home which was perfect for our group of 6. The Mobile Home is equipped with a Television and DVD but our request for it to be removed was taken on board. One of our daughter is a TV addict and would have happily spent the entire 14 day holiday watching TV! The children found plenty of things to do, they met new friends nearby, played with the borrowed toys from the equipment tent. We went swimming a lot. The kids also enjoyed the beach and the older ones enjoyed playing on the beach inflatables. The lifeguards kept a close eye on everyone and we all felt safe. The kids also went horse-riding in the forest which they enjoyed.

We went on a day trip to Venice, via Murano and it was easy to catch the bus outside the resort to Punta Sabbioni to catch the ferry to Murano and then later a ferry from Murano to Venice. Our children enjoyed Venice, especially going on the Waterbuses, We purchased a one-day travel card. Murano was amazing, especially seeing the outdoor glass sculptures. It was like a mini version of Venice!

My 4 year old had an accident at Morbidosi, when she decided to climb on a coin-operated helicopter and banged her head when she fell. We got a lot of attention but the Union Lido and Morbidosi staff were fantastic. They immediately arranged for a golf buggy to take us to the on-site doctor. This was late at 10pm but we got seen quickly by the doctor. As my daughter recovered quickly from her fall and seemed fine, the doctor arranged for 24 hour care and one of the security guys visited our cabin hourly through the night to ensure that she was ok. The doctor also visited our cabin the next day to check on her too. Thankfully she is fine and bounced back quickly! It is very reassuring to know that there is medical staff available on site and will attend quickly.

Union Lido is ideal for children as there is many things they can do and there are restaurants on site that we don't need to leave the site unless we want to visit other areas. We enjoyed eating several ice-creams at the Gelato Kiosk.

We flew here to Marco Polo airport in August 2011 and to Treviso in August 2012. Out of the two airports, we prefer Marco Polo as it is easier to get to Union Lido by pubic transport from MP, especially on Sundays.

I personally would like to return to Union Lido and Bolero in August 2013 but unfortunately my husband has got the itch to visit other places so we will be going to Greece instead! Hopefully I can persuade him for August 2014!

Room Tip: Choose Bolero!

i have been going to union lido since i was a baby and my dad has been going since the 70's.
it is a wounderful place for a relaxing family holiday, we have in thew past taken our own caravan or gone with camping firms like eurocamp, eurosites (no lnger running) and canvas, this year i hope to be going with bolero and i am really looking forward to it. my siblings and there familys go as often as they can just like i do, and many friends we have invited with us love it also. it has grown since i was little and modernised as it's gone but it still holds traditional values of a propper family holiday, the security is amazing and makes you feel safe. siesta could do with being as strict as it once was but kids will be kids. all the staff are friendly and if you make regular trips you feel part of the family as they remember you and always make you feel really welcome.
i have driven with family from the uk and seen some beautiful sites along the way and i have also flown and have enjoyed doing each one.
if you want a break from it all to relax enjoy food wine and company of friends and family for a great price then go to union lido it;'s my home from home!!!!!!

Room Tip: dont go with thompson too far away from main drag plus near the night club not heard good things abo...

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 28, 2012

We went to the Union Lido last week August / first week of September 2012 and thoroughly enjoyed it. We are a family with two children aged 8 and 5 at the time.

Getting there
We flew to Marco Polo with Easy Jet and then caught the public bus from right outside the airport to Jesolo where we changed onto another bus which dropped us off right outside the Union Lido. This bus service was cheap, easy and efficient and I would totally recommend this service (even with bags and kids) to save the 100 euro taxi fare each way. In saying that as we had an early morning flight on the way home we did book a taxi for that leg of the trip.

When we arrived at the Union Lido we checked in at the main reception and were transported to the Bolero reception on a golf buggy which the kids loved. Checking in with Bolero was quick and easy and we were taken to our caravan and shown around by one of the team. The caravan was new, well equipped and we were very happy with it.

Bolero
The Bolero area of the Union Lido was one of the best. It was very centrally located right by the iconic water tower (which lights up at night to help navigation). There is a very clean and well appointed shower/toilet block nearby which a lot of people use instead of their caravan shower/toilet. A supermarket and small row of shops including a touy shop, pizza parlour, ice cream parlour, bakery and a newsagent. There is also a swimming pool only a 5 minute walk away from Bolero and then right behind this is the lovely beach with miles of sand and a number of beach bar/cafes/restaurants.

People return to Bolero time and time again and they have a load of repeat customers. They are an English company but as they have the best caravans and a great locations get a lot of bookings from people all over Europe. A lot of people book for next year whilst there on holiday.

Facilities
The Union Lido is a massive site but it is easy to navigate and there is a golf buggy service and a littel train both of which help you to get around the site if you need help, but we chose to walk everywhere.

There are two main swimming pool areas both very good and equipped with slides, lazy river etc etc to keep the kids entertained. One of the pools has a very pleasant and clever sandy bottom. This sand is white, doesn't stick and is easily moulded by the kids into shapes. The beach is well equipped with sunbeds (although we chose to borrow free sunbeds and lilos from Bolero and take them to the beach with us), pedlos and a large inflatable play area out in the sea. The only down side to the beach was the numerous jelly fish which we think were brought in by some storms that happened whilst we were there.

Dining
We ate breakfast in our caravan every day and then had either lunch or dinner out. If we ate lunch out we would have dinner in the caravn and vice versa. We tried most of the restaurants on the site and found them all to be good. We went to the lovely steak house on site on our last night where steaks are cooked outsite on a large bbq. The food was amazing but the experience was spoiled by the mosquitoes this night. Diners and staff were constantly slapping themselves due to mossie bites and spraying themselves with DEET etc. I will come on to mosquitoes a bit later on.

Having never been to Italy before, I was impressed by the draught wine available. Red, white and prosecco for 1.2 euro a glass (cheaper than the kids cola). I really enjoyed the draught wine :0)

Kids
There is a lot to do for kids of all ages. Our 8 year old boy found friends on the Bolero site through playing football. They all spoke different languages, had different accents but the football brought them all together. He made friends with some German lads deswpite language differences and they all went off (on their own) to the football tournament at 10.00 each morning. They enjoyed the freedom and I felt happy that they were safe. Whilst my eldest was playing football I dropped my 5 year old girl off at the Bolero kids club where they played games, did colouring and went for ice creams. In just a few days the kids all got to know each other very well and really did enjoy the freedom playing together outside the caravans. My girl loves the German family next door and was forever on their patio calling in to them (much to my embarassment haha).

We took our 5 year old to the mini disco a few times in the lovely ampitheater. She did enjoy the mini disco but the songs were mainly German and could be a litter more international please Union Lido.

The kids both enjoyed the large adventure playground in the woods behind the beach. This had something for everyone even a traim trail for adults. There is a Union Lido run scout hut and another kids club here in the woods.

There were some evening shows and we opted for the Disney show. However, it was very hard to get seats and for the kids to be able to see the stage so we did not watch much of it unfortunately. Evening entertainment is quite laid back and spread out at the Union Lido so easy to opt in and out of what you wanted to do.

Both of our kids loved the "Imorbidosi" play area at the back on the camp. For 5 euros they could stay in there all night and parents can enjoy a drink sitting at a table opposite the entrance watching the kids play. We all enjoyed nights in this area of the camp.

Mossies
We worried about mossies a bit before we went due to lots of mentions in the reviews. However, the only time they bothered us was when we were at a BBQ (Bolero do a BBQ once a week which is a greaqt way to meet other families and the kids to get to know one another). And also when we went to the steak restaurant where they bbq thew steaks outside. I guess the mossies can smell the blood and it attracts them. I would not let the mossies put you off going to Union Lido, just ensure to cover yourself in protection if you plan to bbq or eat a rare steak !

The union lido do a lot of spraying of the trees of an evening with a flashing motorised machines (the kids thought aliens had landed) and everyone burns coils and cintronellas at night.

Venice
We went to Venice for a day trip and LOVED it despite going on a day there was a huge storm and it did not stop raining. We caught the bus right outside Union Lido to Punto Sabbioni where we caught the boat to Venice. This was an easy and cheap trip and you could easily book a night or two in Venice should you wish a break from the Union Lido for a day or two.

Wandering around Venice was amazing and yes you could spend a fortune there. The food is notoriously bad in Venice and expensive so we opted for a lovely pizza and a beer in a small family run restaurant. I bought some lovely glass gifts very cheaply and do wish we had done the trip to Murano and Burano to see the glass works.

We bought the Vaporetto day pass as looking at the map of Venice we thought we would need a lot of boats to get round it. However, Venice is very small and you can walk from one end to another in a few hours. The vaporetto are fun but do get very busy and we got fed up of getting on and off and had more fun walking round the back streets and going over all the bridges. We did not get a gondola because of the rain, but I would book one if I went again in better weather.

Weather
We had a fair bit of rain which spoiled it a bit for me as I am a sun worshipper. I think it rained at least 4 days out of the 14 and there were some massive storms with thunder, lightening, the works. I am not sure if this is usual for the area or 2012 was just a bad year weather wise with lots of rain everywhere ???

We had a great time and will return to this lovely place again.

This park is one of the largest in Europe. They have 11,000 customers in high season. They do this by cramping everyone in. They also have the rudest, most unhelpful staff of anywhere I've been. The place is run like a prison.

To be fair the plus points are:
The beach is on site - 15 mins walk though from our Thomson Al Fresco mobile
The spa which costs 14 euro a day is quiet and offers a nice experience
The pool is OK. Nothing special.
Frozen yoghurt bar is good - though pricey
The beach bars are nice at night. Nice breeze and good staff.

On the other hand:
Pitches are small and too close. No decks.
Supermarkets are expensive
Restaurants are all the same
Cycle hire is 70 Euro a week - elsewhere 25 Euro
Staff don't care.
The lagoon pool is greasy and over crowded.
11,000 people in a confined space is not fun.

the rigmarole with passports when you try to leave is a joke.

Do yourself a favour and go to one of the other great parks in the area. Same beach, light, air etc etc without the nonsense.

I'll start at the beginning. We drove to Union Lido from the UK which was exhausting but worth every second once we got there! A really nice warm welcome from the reception staff on arrival. We got there at siesta time so had to park in the car park until it was over but that was no problem.

We wandered off to find the Bolero Office which was easy as it was marked on the map we were given at reception. Although the Bolero staff were enjoying their siesta they came and booked us in and showed us our accommodation. It was fabulous. Really nice and clean, well laid out, perfect. Bolero have a free dvd library which is great for entertaining the kids if it rains (which it didn't!) and they have a book shelf that you can help yourself to at any time.

I last went to the site 25 years ago when I was a teenager and had really good memories of it. I was really hoping that it would live up to expectations and it did! Everything was as I remembered it but improved.

The whole place is beautifully clean all the time. It is well laid out and nothing feels very far away really despite the size of the site.

The pools were quite busy but the one with the lazy river was the quieter of the two and was fine. I hate crowds, but I enjoyed it there.

The supermarkets (there are two) are well stocked with everything you need. There are plenty of places to buy drinks, ice creams, snacks and all reasonably priced I think. Loved the cocktail bar!

The beach is lovely. It is cleaned every day and the water is beautiful. It never felt crowded at any point.

The weather while we were there was amazing - almost too hot but you can't complain at that!!

Siesta time is sometimes a little noisier than it should be, but hey, you can't get the kids in your street to shut up for two hours in the summer can you?!

All in all I would highly recommend Union Lido and I would definitely recommend booking with Bolero. The staff are fantastic and their location is the best in the whole park. Can't do enough for you and always someone on hand if you need anything. Ten out of Ten for the whole experience.

Room Tip: Book with Bolero!
