Hotel Duca Della Corgna
Reviewed August 18, 2008

Hotel 10 minute walk to old town with little shade, can be very hot in summer. Only 5 minute walk to station. Staff very helpful but not much English spoken. Rooms very clean. Evening meal very good. Very helpful if vegetarian or food allergies. Pool area a bit tatty only 2 broken umbrellas for shade and no cushions on chairs.

Moderate Hotel –
rooms good size, clean, tidy, everything worked.
Breakfast reasonable – usual awful juice, moderate hot drinks, but nice rolls, yoghurts, some meat and cheese and a toaster. Large breakfast room downstairs gloomy in winter , but probably taken upstairs / outside in summer.
Most of the place shut down for the winter, so not a true comparison.

BUT

Not a very good location. Out in suburbs. The whole area is urban sprawl – warehouses, factories, quite intensive housing. Not near the lake (which isn’t very pretty, at least on its shoreline), and not near enough to the old town centre to compensate.

Swimming pool picture in brochure / web site totally misleading: shows trees / park but actually overlooked by very adjacent housing. Pool itself is very small and unattractive. Many of the bedrooms look out onto a wall. Quite a walk into the town. There are no taxis in the town. Not really a holiday hotel, more a good place for a stopover for one or possibly two nights whilst touring.

Owners friendly enough and helpful – son-in-law drove us to and from restaurants in the old town on two successive evenings.

Conclusion: poor location, not in the right place. Facilities adequate, but not acceptable for a whole week in comparison with hotels we have used on previous trips. OK for a one night stop.
