“Beautiful setting, close to everything.”
Reviewed October 11, 2010

What a beautiful place! The room was lovely and very clean, not luxurious, but just what we wanted. The bathroom was spotless. We had a very nice breakfast each morning, which included varieties of sliced meats, breads, yogurt, cereal, fruit, and you could boil your own eggs by dipping color coded holders into a simmering electric pot. Graciella, who maintains the buffet, was super nice and accomodating. We stayed here for most of our honeymoon in Tuscany. It was a central place to stay in the region. We drove to Siena, San Gimignano, Florence, Greve in Chianti and Radda in Chianti, and everything was easily within an hour driving time. You do need a car to get into the center of town, though--pretty long walk without one. Would absolutely recommend.

This very small hotel has all of the amenities you are looking for. A beautiful setting, very clean rooms, outstanding service and more. Very cozy and comfortable. The staff is so gracious and more than willing to go above and beyond to provide any and all services, such as restaurant reservations, driving directions, best places to park, etc. Absolutely wonderfully located in the heart of Tuscany, close to all cities and hill towns. I totally miss staying there and seeing all of the people with whom we made friends. When I return to Tuscany, I will definitely be staying here again!!

The hotel is as beautiful if not more than the pictures on the internet. The staff at Hotel Salivolpi goes out of their way to make your stay the best you will ever experience. Honestly, I would go back in a heartbeat and was sad to have to leave. We made many friends at the hotel and among the staff. This atmosphere was awesome!

We stayed here with a group of four couples. Service was very good and the accomodations were quaint and just what you'd expect from a Tuscan farmhouse. The grounds were beautiful. Breakfast was great, though maybe not worth the price. Had a great time each evening having cocktails on the back porch overlooking the Chianti hills. However, no air conditioning in the rooms which is a problem in the heat of summer, especially if you have allergies and can't leave the windows open. It is also just a little too far from town to walk (more than 1km it seemed), especially in the heat of summer.

it was pretty average...breakfast was not worth 5 Euro pp...should have skipped it and saved the 10 euros...wifi only works in common areas...tv was tiny...smallest I've ever seen...good location and base to visit Chianti region...has free parking which was what we were after...

We have some mixed feelings about this charming little B & B, and honestly, the weather had much to do with creating those feelings. It was exceedingly hot during our visit there and, as the only hotel of five we visited during our trip without air conditioning, it did create a problem for us on our first night there. We were given a first floor room with windows that opened onto the front patio where there were tables and umbrellas for visitors to sit at, and some did so up to and past midnight, conversing and smoking - and therefore requiring us to close our windows on a stifling evening. The good news is that the staff was very accommodating and moved us into their side building where the windows opened onto open ground, there was a portable fan and we slept well the next two nights. It is certainly fascinating to think of the history that such a place has seen in the hundreds of years it has been in use.

The staff was very helpful in suggesting area sightseeing and restaurants, including one within a hundred meters of the hotel that we definitely would have otherwise missed and therefore would have missed a terrific meal. The location of the hotel makes it convenient for visiting many great Tuscan areas such as San Gimignano, Voltera, Volpia, and other Chianti towns.

The breakfast provided was about mid-pack of the five hotels we stayed at on this trip. Choices were plentiful, but some of the quality was a bit pedestrian, and the drinks were from commercial-style machinery rather than dedicated espresso machines, etc. Nice to have a bar/coffee service in the lobby till midnight and we several times availed ourselves of a late night coffee while Skyping with the family back home on the available wireless Internet service.

In all, I believe we would return to the hotel, but perhaps during Spring or Fall and not take the chance on the hot weather again.

Really enjoyed our stay here. Castellina is a perfect location to tour the Chianti region and the hotel is just on the edge of the town so an easy walk in. Lovely garden and pool area to chill out. Breakfast was very good. Staff always helpful. As a previous reviewer said, the room was a little dark but this is really down to the design of a typical Tuscan building (thick walls, small windows = cool). All in all, would definitely return. Minor gripe - their Internet connection was generally very slow. Only bad memory was watching England draw 1-1 with USA here.
