“Intimate. charming location”
Reviewed April 9, 2013

My wife and I traveled to Chianti in early September 2013 and stayed for four nights at Castello La Leccia to celebrate our first anniversary. La Leccia is intimate, charming and historic. It was the highlight of our Italian trip. As their literature states, this is not a hotel but a family home. Set in a small cluster of elegant old buildings on a serene hilltop overlooking vineyards and olive groves, it offers some of the most exquisite food we had in Italy. We are both discerning cooks ourselves and seasoned travelers.

We did day trips to Siena and the surrounding towns, but quickly realized Giuseppe’s impeccable dinner service, menu selections and his suggested pairings of wines with food, was a terrific way to end a day exploring.

Castello La Leccia produces two excellent wines and their own olive oil. As well the kitchen uses locally grown ingredients. We usually took our breakfasts and dinner on the piazza overlooking the vineyards. Be sure to order the delicious cappuccino.

The restoration of the estate is stylish and modern. Rooms were large, the views spectacular and the beds and amenities luxurious. Wifi allowed us stay in touch with family. Alice at the front desk gave us tips for sightseeing and all-essential driving tips. But driving in Chianti is very pleasant.

We toured the winery and the vineyard with Francesco whose passion and vision for La Leccia and his wines are contagious, His genial staff made us feel very welcome. We are returning in May 2013 for a week to enjoy spring in Chianti and can hardly wait.

Room Tip: Book ahead! This is going to become even more popular as it gets better known.

I feel guilty for taking so long to write this review since we stayed in Sept 2012. However this is one of those hotels that will forever be etched in our memory. We stayed in Suite 1 which was very large with many windows. Castello la Leccia was the summer home of Francesco while he was rowing up. Not only did we have a large suite we had access to what was once the living and dining rooms of his family just down the hall. With only a few rooms we felt we had the whole castle to ourselves most of the time. While the location, rooms, views were all amazing, it was the passion of Francesco and Giuseppe that make this such an experience. Francesco spend an hour providing a private tour of the winery right in the middle of the grape harvest time and Giuseppe entertained us everyday during breakfast and dinner and also took the time to provide lots of advice and ideas for our visit to Rome. If you are looking for a quiet Tuscany location backed by sincere interest of the owners to ensure your stay is memorable we highly recommend trying Castello la Leccia. We stayed at the Savoy in London and the St. Regis in Rome on this same trip and by far the most memorable is this stay in Tuscany.

Room Tip: We stayed in Suite 1 which I believe is the largest. We did have a tour of some other rooms on high...

When we booked Castello La Leccia, there were barely any reviews on tripadviser but we decided to give it a try and were blown away when we arrived. The location on a hill is stunning, the pool had a view of the surrounding countryside and the grounds were beautiful! Contrary to rustic country style accommodations typically found elsewhere in Tuscany, the decor was contemporary, stylish and very modern. It showed that a lot of care and love was taken in restoring the family owned property and it's truely amazing. It was clean, Francesco and staff showed great hospitality and we had a great wine tasting! We will be back. Love the Fiat 500 in the courtyard!

Dear Guest,

First of all, thank you very much for your positive review on our agriturismo on Tripadvisor.
It is with great pleasure that we aknowledge that you spent a lovely holiday at Castello La Leccia with us. We always do our best to make our guests feel at home, as they are always welcome to share our unique and lovely atmosphere in Tuscany.

We did take special care in restoring the property, preferring a modern but elegant and decor furniture which we think gives to our Castello a different and more elegant touch than the rustic accomodations which can be easily found elsewhere in Tuscany. We are delighted to see that this choice has ecountered many other people's favour.

We are looking forward to welcoming you again, please feel free to get in touch if you need any assistance with your next booking.

Kindest regards,

Beatrice Cambioni

My top 5 findings on Castello la Leccia:
1. Human touch - you can feel the touch of the owner. Francesco, whom we met during the stay, a passionate man, gives a lot of good energy to the place. Alice and Giuseppe make their highest efforts to make your stay as comfortable as possible. In fact this is the first time when I remember the name of an owner, manager and the person responsible for the restaurant. Incredible. 2. Location. Castello is located on a top of a hill. The hill is the highest one - thanks to it the view is breath taking! From the pool, from the restaurant and from the rooms. Additionally - a stone throw from Siena. 3. Architecture. When we arrived to Castello la Leccia we saw a small village on a hill. Small hotel, wine production, olive production, family residence, office, church - this all create an incredible atmosphere. Absolutely beautiful! 4. It is quite. Yes, it is quite. Very quite place. 5 they produce great Chianti Classico

Castello La Leccia was our first stop after landing in Rome in early September 2012. Upon arriving we were pleasantly greeted by Alice, a porter handled our luggage, and we were shown to our gorgeous Suite #1. The room, the bed, the sitting room, and the wardrobe room were all amazing. Arriving in the late afternoon, the sun was reflecting off the vineyards below our window and the soft sound of the fountain outside could be heard. This was undeniably the best residence we've ever stayed in. The next morning the sun rose over the hill directly into our window -- we kept the windows open all night and a just perfectly cool breeze kept us refreshed. The accommodations are topped off by expert service at the restaurant and especially Giuseppe (who is the owner and vintner, Francesco's, brother). We had two superb meals -- the first we let Giuseppe choose all of the food considering he knows it best, and it was fabulous. The wine served was their in-house 2008 Riserva -- a spectacular choice. We stayed two nights and upon leaving Monday morning Francesco took personal time out to greet us and take our pictures and tell us the story of his family and how he resurrected the Castello. I cannot say enough good things about Castello La Leccia -- we would stay an entire two weeks if we could. It's definitely a retreat -- if you want to come and relax and enjoy the sounds of the countryside, watch the beauty of an afternoon thunderstorm pass through and cool down the fields, and just spend time with someone you love or alone, I can imagine few other places as perfect as Castello La Leccia.

Room Tip: Suite #1 is a must.

Visit now before some NYT travel writer discovers this and it's overrun. Opened in May 2012 and located just south of the quaint town of Castellina in Chianti,, this agriturismo hotel has just 12 rooms (13 planned for 2013), but every one is tastefully and beautifully done in a contemporary style blended into the centuries-old Tuscan castle stone and brick. Francesco Daddi runs a marvelously welcoming operation. Giuseppe runs the kitchen that features a big breakfast and wonderful Tuscan dinner menus. The food and service were impeccable. Alice runs the front desk and handled every reuqest, no matter how mundane, efficently and quickly. The family knows every corner of Tuscany and helped plan all of our day trips. The farm produces its own wine and olive oil, including a crisp white blend for the first time in 2012. We stayed in the Suite of Stuccos, a separate suite from the main house, that was roomy, very comfortable, very quiet and had its own separate terrace from which to view the hillsides, olive groves and vineyards. And sunsets; did I mention the spectacular sunsets from the terrace near the house that faces west? We spent a week here, happily would have extended our stay if we could, and are looking forward to returning. This is one of the best stays we have had abroad, ever, highly recommended.

Room Tip: Top floor west side will get the sunsets. However, the Suite of Stuccos is worth every penny in ter...
