“nice little place in a historic setting”
Reviewed October 2, 2013 via mobile

this place is not in the main pedestrian road of Castellina but in a side road under the arches (hence the name). We went for lunch, found the service good and the food excellent. The tagliata was baked to perfection and the meat was incredible. It is maybe a bit more expensive than other restaurants in the surrounding but we found that it was well worth it.

“Overrated”
Reviewed September 20, 2013

As in other reviews, what let this place down for us was the lack of staff. Restaurant was full the night we went and there were just two waitstaff. Ordering took forever..... Pasta was very nice indeed but otherwise the food was just about good enough for the prices charged and no more. Certainly didn't "under-promise and over-deliver" like most Italian restaurants we went to on this trip did. And if you do go, avoid the tables at the tunnel entrance - the wind whips around there in the evening and it gets cold and unpleasant very quickly.

“A delightful Vault restaurant, but ......”
Reviewed August 24, 2013

Great find hidden in the vaults at the back of the main thoroughfare. Very busy, food was very Italian and slow to arrive as the restaurant was clearly under staffed, poor them.
Two of the wines ordered were out of stock, the placed still smelled of paint, very new.
Food was probably the most average we had had int he whole two weeks in Italy, which is such a shame as the atmosphere of the restaurant is great.
Somewhat a disappointed.

“Overrated and overpriced, nice location.”
Reviewed August 19, 2013

We had our dinner there on our first stay in Castellina. From the reviews we expected to be thrilled, sadly we were not. The portions were tiny and the prices for that matter really high. My chicken with porcini mushrooms was a small and tasteless chicken breast , half burnt, with a couple of mushrooms on top served with 2-3 lettuce leafs and a baby tomato. IMO 16 euro for that, is too much to pay. The truffle tagliateles were tasty but the portion was enough for a 5-year old. 12 euro for that. 2 glasses of wine 10 euro. In other italian restaurants we were perfectly ok with two main courses, this time we paid almost 50 euro and had to eat a pizza elsewhere in addition! Wouldnt go again.

“Our 1st night back”
Reviewed June 25, 2013 via mobile

On our return to castellina we decided to visit a restaurant that had been recommended by our friends, who were here 3 weeks earlier, we were not disappointed. My partner and I started with the selection of anti-pasta and for a main course both had the Wild Boar. We accompanied this with a bottle of Pinot Grigio, which was light but full of flavour. Before the starter we were served a side dish along with some bread, I'm still not sure what it was but it was delicious. The service we received was fantastic and the food it self was of a very high standard and extremely well priced. In fact with the discount we received from staying at the Salivolpi the meal only came to 73 euros, which included a second bottle of wine we felt was value for money. All in all this is somewhere we would recommend and will definitely revisit
