Castello di Fonterutoli

We stayed overnight in a Deluxe Room which was beautifully appointed, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Our room was spacious and we had a private balcony where we enjoyed the beautiful views over the valley, vineyard and garden with a glass of wine in the late afternoon sun. We slept well in the comfortable bed and quiet location.
Our room was in a tastefully restored farmhouse in the charming, quiet village which is part of an old established wine estate. Good WiFi was available in the lounge and also in our room. Parking was convenient and safe.
We ate dinner at Osteria Fonterutoli in the village and were impressed with the quality of the food.
This overnight stay was such a treat that we would love to return for a longer stay to enjoy the wine tasting and cellar visits available at the Enoteca on site, to walk on the local walking trail and explore more of the surrounding area which is a very beautiful part of Tuscany.
We were warmly welcomed by our host who was professional, friendly and spoke excellent English.

The whole experience was amazing, we stayed there for one night only but I want to go back with my wife and other couples. The rooms are made to share, you normally have three rooms with a big kitchen, dinner and living room, all of them very big. The only thing is that the beds and bathrooms are quite old but it can be seen as part of the experience. The restaurant of the hotel was also very good for dinner, breakfast and lunch.

Outstanding and stunning. Such an atmospheric setting and outset to explore the nature, wine, gastronomy and culture of the region. Really a place one would prefer to keep as a secret, but here it goes - my utterly best recommendations for any one with good taste and a an urge to relax in the most stunning spot between Siena and Florence.

We celebrated our wedding anniversary here and it was the perfect location. If you are going to experience Tuscany and immerse yourself in the culture, food and wine then this is the perfect place to stay. Located in the heart of Tuscany and the Chianti region it is a slice of paradise. Not only is it a room in an old Tuscan house but the whole small town is part of the experience. While we were there we did the Tuscany cooking class and that was amazing too. The only thing we didn't get to do was the wine tour but we did the wine tasting.

The one negative thing about this trip was their website and arriving there. We flew into the Pisa airport and landed at 12:30. The hotel has setup a private wine tour for us at 16:00 and the drive from the airport to the hotel is 1.5-2 hours. On their website they give GPS coordinates for the hotel, check-in area and restaurant. We punched in the coordinates and we off. 1.5 hours later we arrived at our destination with the hotel nowhere in sight. We had a second GPS with us and put in the coordinates and it said we were there too. We called the hotel to say we were lost and they gave us an address to try. When we put that address in we were 72KM away from the hotel on the opposite side of Florence. We arrived at 16:45 and told because we were late they couldn't do the wine tour for us because they were booked for the weekend. I felt that it wasn't our fault that we went to the coordinates they gave us and was hoping they would stay late and do a later tour as we scheduled. In the end, they offered us the same tour on Sunday because it was their slow day but we had already booked a bike tour that was paid for. We told them that the coordinates on their website were wrong when we arrived two weeks ago. I just went on their website and the bad coordinates are still on there. If you are traveling there and using a GPS, make sure you don't use any of the coordinates or you will find yourself way out of the way.

Overall, we really enjoyed our stay after we got past the first day and what happened. Enjoy this area and Tuscany--it's magnificent!

My husband and I booked one night here with their "Stay and Dine" package - one night in a superior room, a 4-course tasting wine dinner, and the winery tour, for 256 euro. We loved it so much, we booked another night. The village is amazing, and most staff, we learned, live on the property. The views and sights are nothing short of breathtaking, but it's really the level of service that, in our view, set this experience apart. Everyone was so genuinely kind (not the level of "kind" that comes from just wanting your money.) The wait staff as the Osteria was amazing, as were the ladies at the front desk, who put up with our "new reservation" not once, but twice.

The rooms are fantastic. Clean, large, and well-suited for leisure travelers, situated in old buildings. There is no tv (but who wants one, anyway?) and wi-fi is free, but only one in your party can use it at a time.

Next trip to Italy, we are skipping the cities, and going directly back to Fonterutoli.

Room Tip: I think the rooms upstairs had better views and balconies, but ours was on the main level and was st...

We spent 10 days in the Roseto appartment and loved it. We had the privelege of the private pool, which is reserved for the 3 suites. We were 6 adults and 2 kids and stayed comfortably in the spacious rooms.
The staff was very welcoming, and we had the opportunity to get a tour of the both the old and new winery of Mazzei, who has been making wine at Fonterutoli for generations.
The highlight of our days was breakfast, where the lovely Jean starts your day off on a high it is hard to come down from. :) (ps. make sure to request her famous scrambled eggs!)
Fonterutoli is a great starting point for visiting the beautiful wine region of Chianti Classico, and convenient for day trips north to Firenze (45 mins) or south to Siena (20 mins).

Room Tip: All the appartments of Fonterutoli were lovely, but we recommend booking the whole Roseto flat and g...

We stayed he for one night in may 2013. We just selected due to wine we love and decided to look at place where is made
It is very small Locanda, not even town juts in hear of chianti region. Oned by Mazzei's family, Fonterutoli is one of 3 wine yards they owned.
Rooms are based in real old building, with very nice, and would even say antic furniture. We stayed in big house, with two bedrooms and bibliotheca. We feel almost as we are living here. You get into real Italy, with real books, soul, and authentic atmosphere. With beautiful outdoor view on Chianti hills, and wine yards
For all visitors are free wine tasting.
We also were very surprised and fully enjoyed dinner in Osteria Fonterutoli
If you around do not miss an opportunity to get into real soul of Chianti region.
