“Beautiful Villa under the Tuscan Sun”
Reviewed October 4, 2011 for a stay in September 2011

My friend Kelly and I just got home from a three week vacation in Italy. Five nights of that vacation were spent at Podre Patrignone an olive farm in tuscany. What a magical place. We felt so at home as soon as we pulled in the drive and Simon welcomed us. I new I would like Simon even before I actually met him because his emails were so funny an showed his friendly personality. Verity his wife is so sweet and an excellent cook. The first night of our stay she cooked up a real tuscan meal for all the guests. Apsolutely amazing. We split our time there between Tinia and ll Forno. Two little cottages attached to the villa. We had our own little terrace overlooking rolling hills of olive trees. The cottages were spotlessly clean and rustic feeling with a fireplace and stone walls. Verity had left us a freshly baked loaf of bread along with a chunk of excellent cheese, homemade jams, a bottle of chianti and of course some of their own olive oil. It was fun sitting by the pool sharing a glass of wine talking with other guests about the vineyards they visited and watching the most beautiful sunsets I have ever seen. We found that staying at Podre Patrignone it was very easy to drive to Sienna and San Gimignano because it was so centrally located. Right in the middle of the chianti road. Out of all the places we stayed in Italy Podre Patrignone will remain our very favorite and we hope to return again very soon.

“A postcard does not do it justice”

We stayed at Patrignone as part of a larger group of friends, family, and acquaintances and also met 2 other couples also staying there. There was a wide range of ages in our group- from 15 through 80+ and the variety of accomodations were perfect for all of us. This was my second stay here (last there in June 2003) and the space has seen many improvements such as solar panels and an expanded garden as well as lovely patio seating. Fragrant rosemary and lush lavender bushes line many of the pathways. While still a little rustic and lacking air conditioning (although it cools down in the evening and the lower level rooms are much cooler), you cannot get much better ambience and a feel for the "real" Tuscany than Patrignone. It is the ideal central location to explore all of Tuscany. The towns of San Donato and Castellina in Chianti are minutes away and both have some lovely authentic restaurants. Simon is more than happy to assist with recommendations but his "big book" located throughout the rooms includes all of the essential information.
The farmhouse is charming with many different types of rooms depending on your needs. We stayed in a room with a queen sized bed and private bath (all have private baths) but others had apartments in which you could prepare meals if you desired. These were one or two bedrooms with a kitchen/sitting area and were ideal for families or 2 couples travelling together.

Simon's wife "V" is an outstanding cook and prepared a delicious meal for our entire group the first night we arrived. What a great start to a great week. They will prepare 1 or 2 meals per week if requested (extra fee). They also offer for sale their own organic EVOO and it is rich and flavorful.

Nearly every evening, members of our group would bring a bottle of wine and some cheese next to the pool that sits atop a hill overlooking vineyards and olive trees for a front row seat to spectacular sunsets. It truly does not get better than this.

Simon is always available for questions- he was raised in England (having taken over the running of Patrignone from his mother Carla who bought the podere in the 1980's) and has that wonderful British wit. V and the kids as well as 2 sweet dogs live in the house next door on the property so you have a real sense of family while there. Yet, if you are looking to go for a romantic getaway, they are unobtrusive and you will often feel you are the only one stay there. It is a great place to renew friendships, meet new friends, relax, rejuvenate, and bask in all that Tuscany has to offer.
