Lovely location, good size swimming pool, restaurant setting and staff fabulous. Overall the hotel has a relaxed atmosphere and one can really feel at home. Most guests Italian. Close to the village with the shuttle bus to the beach (which is packed). Pity the shuttle bus didn't continue into the evenings. The bedrooms are basic and as other reviewers have noted - they are definitely not four star. The beds are small and our shower didn't work properly. So manage your expectations and you could have a great stay. The breakfast and food in general was okay but nothing to special. There are however some good restaurants in the village. The staff on reception are very pleasant indeed but not at all forthcoming with information or help which was rather frustrating. (Gave us a map of the village on the last day for example despite asking on arrival). Wi fi intermittent. But overall a positive experience - which was all the more so having read reviewers reports which helped me know what to expect. So although this review sounds rather negative - I think the total experience was a good one and I would want to return.

Overall fairly good. The location is lovely but you will probably want to have a car. A few niggles - drains in the shower did smell a bit after rain, front desk not always helpful (e.g. responding to questions about the shuttle service to the beach but not telling us we needed a card from the hotel to show at the beach for our free use of loungers and unbrella), the food was not always great (although pricing was reasonable - EUR25 for a set menu), a lot of big wedding parties at weekends. On the positive side, most of the staff were very friendly, the beach was great - clear clean water not too busy.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front have the view of the sea and the village.

Stayed here for 4 nights as my sister had her wedding reception at the hotel. Hotel located in a beautiful setting overlooking San Marco di Castellabate village. Hotel staff were helpful and friendly. Breakfast was lovely - Fresh Fruit, cereals, bread rolls and pastries and fruit juice. My Room could have been bigger. Not a whole lot of space to move around and the shower cubicle was quite small so a big person would have found it hard to move around in it. Bathroom Basics were missing i.e. no tooth brush holder or space to put anything and there was an issue with hot water. No iron which was a big drawback but that is standard seemingly with all Italian Hotels. Had to pay extra to get clothes ironed which we were not all happy with as paying enough for the room. Hotel is definitely not a 4 star hotel I would rate it as a 3 star due to some of their facilities. Hotel fine for small holiday but not for a wedding. Unable to cope with large weddings and they have a tendancy to book other functions in the hotel when the hotel was supposed to be designated to the wedding party only for the weekend and did not advise until the last minute. Don't think the hotel is value for money. If I was to return I would stay in Santa Maria Di Castellabate as better hotels and value for money.

Room Tip: Rooms with balconies are the nicest but are very small.

I stayed at this wonderful Hotel last September, the location was perfect, I was given a beautiful double room, I ate in the restaurant every evening and the food was authentic Italian, "excellent"
The staff could not do enough from the moment I arrived until the day I left, and the other people staying at the hotel came back year after year, I could see why, the Hermitage believes in good old fashioned service, I cannot wait to go back.

Myself and hubbie got married in Castellabate a few weeks ago and we stayed in this hotel for a week along with about 60 of our guests. The hotel is based in an amazing setting in the small fishing village of San Marco di Castellabate. The majority of the rooms overlook the pool which in itself looks out onto the sea and towns of San Marco and Santa Maria, a fabulous view to wake up to every day. Our wedding guests were a mixed crowd of singles, couples, families with children, old people and some invalids but the hotel went out of their way to cater for every guest. Apart from one incidence where there was a small but noisy Italian wedding being catered to in the hotel just above some of the rooms that children were sleeping in, none of our guests had any other complaints. The staff at this hotel are exceptional and I can't praise them enough for their hard work the week that we stayed.
We stayed on a B&B rate and the breakfast was excellent with a selection of breads, cakes, cereals, fruits, yoghurts, hams and cheeses but they also offer a cooked breakfast of eggs or egg and ham included in the B&B rate. We ate a few evenings in the hotel and the food was top notch. The restaurant here is a proper restaurant that also caters for non-residents so the quality has to be good to compete with the numerous other restaurants in the area and it was.
The rooms in the hotel vary in type and in size and whilst some of the rooms wouldn't really be considered a 4 star standard back home this does not take away from this hotel in the slightest. I believe they make mention of this on their website so they are not trying to pull off a 4-star standard by deception, they truly deserve it for their amazing standard of service, fabulous food and excellent location.
For us the location was perfect as we had a large group that we wanted to keep together somewhat and there is no other hotel in the area that I know of that is of this standard and value. San Marco is the quieter town of the 3 towns in Castellabate and we organised locally to have taxis or the hotel mini-bus available to drop people to other locations when we wanted to go elsewhere in the evenings. The hotel mini-bus is avaialble all day anyhow up till around 5 or 6 and that's free of charge. Taxis aren't cheap in Italy but you can usually get a decent return rate by discussing with the locals, most of whom have a good level of English. Other than the taxis, it is an easy 10-15 mins walk along the beach to Santa Maria and myself and husband even walked down from Castellabate one day and it only took 20 mins. There are also regular local buses between the 3 towns.

Room Tip: Contact the hotel directly when you book and tell them what type of room you require i.e. adjoining...

recently stayed here for a week as a part of wedding party. from looking at the hotels website and for the price we paid per night overall i was disappointed with our stay here. first some of the good points ......Our room was very spacious and opened up onto the swimming pool. there is great views down to the coast and the town of Castellabate up on the hill. The staff were generally very friendly and nice. We ate lunch and dinner in the hotel a few times and i thought the food was good and very reasonably priced as were large bottles of beer. Unfortunatley there was a few bad points during our stay.......our aircon system which was controlled by a main switch at reception didnt work during the night but always seemed to turn back on in the morning, it was very warm in the room and we had 2 very sleepless nights...we rang the night porter each night to get problem fixed but he couldn't fix it, finally on the 3rd night the manager took our room off the main hotel grid and just gave us our own remote control to work the aircon and that solved our problem.....but it still took 3 days to fix the problem. During the week the staff prefered if you put all your food and drink on the room and paid at check out...when we went to pay there was 60 euro extra on our bill and the manager also disputed the deposit we had paid 4 months earlier until i showed him the amount from my online credit card statement. the wifi also only worked at the reception area. the hotel is located about a 10/15 minute to San Marco, though there is not much in San Marco, the towns of Santa Maria and Castellabate are 10 minute drive where there is more in terms of restaurants and bars....the hotel does have a free bus service and there is also a local bus service. overall i dont feel we got good value for money on our stay here

I stayed here recently with my fiance on a re-con trip for our upcoming wedding in September. The weather was awful when we touched down, raining really heavily and it was pretty cold, so I was worried that the hotel would also be cold and damp and that we would have a hard time drying our clothes and heating up. There was no problem at all though. The air conditioning in the rooms was capable of being turned up to 30'C and the rooms were really warm, dry and clean. The only thing I could find any fault with were the wardrobe and shower doors. Both were quite old and a bit difficult to slide open and close. In fact, one day after the cleaner had been in the room and closed the wardrobe door I had a real problem getting it open again but I don't feel that sort of thing is a deal breaker, so I didn't even bring it to the hotels attention. However I got the impression that the hotel would go out of their way to fix the problem or relocate you if you felt it was a problem. The rooms all vary in size and type. We had one of the rooms in the block furthest from the hotel overlooking the pool, it was a double room but had a full balcony with tables and chairs (no. 35). Unfortunately the weather was so bad we didn't get a chance to sit out but there is no denying that the view was still amazing and I found the rooms very quiet and peaceful even though the hotel was about 75% full from what I could see. The pool area is gorgeous with fabulous views over San Marco, Santa Maria and the Amalfi coast. They also have a smaller childrens pool, plus mini-golf and tennis/football courts. The breakfast was good, plenty of fruit, yogurt, cereal, breads, croissants, cheese, ham and they also cooked scrambled eggs for us at no extra cost. The one thing that really stands out from our visit is the standard of service. I found every member of staff to be extremely accommodating and to be genuinely friendly individuals. Hats off to the owners and management for putting that extra bit of effort into finding the right individuals to represent their hotel. All in all, a fantastic hotel with great staff and we have no hesitation in booking this hotel for all of our wedding party guests to stay in.

Room Tip: There are various different types of rooms, from doubles with balconies to standard doubles, to fami...
