The location of this hotel could not be more perfect. right in the heart of charming old town Brixen. Easy walk to all of the local sights, shops and restaurants.
The room we had on the 4th floor was very large, with a lovely balcony. Very modern with nice touches such as bedside lamps and charging areas. We were near the sauna area which was very nice. We used the showers, steam room and sauna a few times and the space was relaxing and pleasant and we had it to ourselves as it did not seem to get used much. The only complaint about the room was that the wifi reception was spotty and unreliable.
The breakfast buffet was nice and the breakfast room and outdoor terrace were comfortable and relaxing place for breakfast. The bar area was small, but cozy and always well attended by a bartender.
There was storage for the bicycles and a place to work on your bikes as well as a bike wash which was very helpful. However, I guess we thought, as a bike hotel, there would be a little more help/info when it came to the advertised bike tours. I asked abut available tours via email, but was told we would be told everything we needed when we arrived. When we arrived, I tried to find information about the tours, but there was very little. Just a handwritten sign up sheet at the front desk in German with what looked like distance/meters but no description of difficulty/location/etc. I wanted to know more about what the sign up sheet was for, but the staff at the desk didn't really know anything more about it. I found some books and photos in binders in the bars, but really could not make sense of what was in the binders and what was on the sign up sheet. Also, all of the material was in German/Italian and my German is conversational only. I did find a sheet provided by the hotel that showed the time and tours that would take place each day. The sheet noted that tours started at 10:00am and info on tours was available at 9:45 so we decided to just sign up and go for it.
We decided to come down early the next morning to see if we could find the tour leader and learn more so headed down at 9:00. We found the lobby full of cyclists already dressed and the tour ready to depart. Confused I asked at the desk and was told the tour left at 9:00, which was written on the sign up sheet but we did not see that and had relied on hotel literature. I was disappointed to not make the tour and apologized and let the front desk know we would not be able to make it (as it would take us at least 20 minutes to pack and get our bikes ready). The woman at the front desk was very upset and yelled at my husband and I in front of everyone in the lobby about how we could not sign up for a tour and then not go. I tried to explain that we followed the time in their literature and could not get any other information the night before, but she was pretty obstinate and really had no sympathy at all for our situation. She was quite loud and rude to us. I felt berated and at this point, I was frustrated and didn't know what she wanted from us, so told her to just charge us. (They did not)
It was unfortunate, but her treatment of us soured us on the hotel. We had come all the way from California and specifically chose this hotel because we heard it catered to mountain bikers, only to have our first morning there start in such a dreadful fashion and to be treated so poorly.
We did eventually get on a tour a few days later and thankfully the tour guides, Brixen Bike, saved the trip for us. They were awesome. Wolfi especially made the trip special. We did two tours with them all departing from the hotel and ending at the hotel with beer and cake. I wish we had made the tour on the first day as well as the time with them was the highlight of our trip to Brixen. So, while the hotel staff did not help us much with understanding the tours, they did pick an excellent group of people to work with.
Thankfully, the rest of the staff at the hotel were very kind and helpful and the rest of our stay there was very pleasant.
