“Serious cycle heaven.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 14, 2010

The room was a little basic but clean and the pillow could have been softer. However I had come to cycle and a room is a place to store my kit and sleep so I was happy.
The rest of the Hotel was smart, clean and had a great little spa for easing tired legs after a hard day on the bike.
The food was excellent with reasonable price quality wines on offer.
The staff were superb, it has that family run feel that you don't get in bigger Hotels.
They all were friendly, very helpful and made the trip memorable for all the right reasons.
The rides they organised and support on them was spot on, if you are a keen cyclist and fancy a real challenge then this is the place to do it from. All this great service and food did not come at a price, the bill at the end represented great value. This was my first time here but can't see it being the last.

My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Funivia for two nights and had a great time. First, the staff is absolutely the most helpful I have experienced. They went out of their way to help us to plan activities. They went so far as to plan our departure route and timing (buses and trains from Bormio to Zurich) and then having an employee deliver us to the bus station in their private vehicle.

When we arrived I asked for a quiet room (on the mountain side of the hotel). The receptionist checked our check out date and replaced the key she had with a card key and took us to Room 318. This room is newly redone (as are rooms 118 and 218). The room is done is all wood with a bathroom with rock surfaces - really nice. And it has a great balcony that faces the ski mountain.

We choose the 1/2 board option (breakfast and dinner) for only 10 Euros more per night per person. It is well worth it. Breakfasts offer an extensive buffet with breads, pastries, yogurts, cereal, juices, coffee and meats. Dinners are very Swiss-like - heavy on meats and cheeses and done very well. There is also an extensive and ever-changing salad bar at dinner that helps if you want some good raw vegetables.

The Funivia is a bike hotel (this is a big cycling area). They store bikes for free, provide tools to fix bikes, and even wash your smelly cycling clothing free of charge. They have a few mountain bikes that they will allow guests to use (free of charge) to explore the area. We took advantage of this and had a great ride up to the Bagni Vecchi (Roman baths).

The Funivia was a very good value with friendly staff and a great location (about 5 minutes walk to the center of the old medieval city). Do yourself a favor and visit Bormio and stay at the Funivia.
