Hotel La Genzianella
Ranked #1 of 41 Hotels in Bormio
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed February 1, 2010

Just returned from a ski trip to Bormio where we were treated to the excellence of the Hotel Genzianella . This was our 5th time in Bormio and have stayed at the Hotel Posta and Hotel Genzianella in the past. Due to poor reviews on this site for the Posta we decided to return to the Genzianella.
The hotel has been upgraded over the years and is currently a perfect example of just how a small family run hotel should be. Friendly and accomodating staff, food to die for and local wines that are worth the trip on their own.
As for the skiing Bormio offers everything at truly reasonable prices and 6000 ft vertical as well. Don't miss the Bombardinos if you go!! We also found transportation to and from Milan Malpensa simple, efficient and reasonable. i.e. $50 per person R/T.

If you are looking for an hotel with cleanness, very good breakfast, great cuisine, close to the ski slopes and not so expensive, you have to go to "La Genzianella" hotel!
I went there twice on December 2009 with my sister for skiing and I'll come back as soon as possible.

Wonderful service. The Hotel really caters for cyclists. For example you just drop your cycling gear in a laundry basket on arriving and the next morning all has been washed and is ready to be picked up. All free of charge. The food and breakfasts are excellent.

4 of us stayed here in June for one night on a road trip round the tunnels and twisties of the Alps and Dolomites.
Bormio is probably better as a winter resort than a summer retreat and the town seemed to have completely shut down and was full of 15 year olds wandering the streets in groups ( what ever happened in 1984 to cause such a population boom?)
The hotel itself is simple and unpretentious and seems to be geared more to the winter market. All the other guests were cyclists who were also tackling the mountain passes.
The location of the hotel in the town means that it is overlooked so sitting outside is possible but the local will stare at you from their apartments.

We only ate breakfats here and it is served in the basement in something akin to an upmarket mess hall. teh food was basic and nothing to write home about. Probably the poorest breakfast we ate in 10 days.

Best thing about the hotel is that its 5 minutes away from the bottom of the Stelvio Pass so we got up early and had the place to ourselves for an hour until the locals woke up. Pure driving nirvana!

We were a party of 12 family and friends staying at the Genzianella. This really is a beautifully run hotel, from check-in to evening meals, everything runs like clockwork. The rooms are spotlessly clean with the maids even taking on the task of tidying up clothes strewn all over the floor by the teenagers in our party (definitely beyond the call of duty)! The food in the evening was very good too, the best we have had on a ski holiday for a number of years. We had rooms at the front of the hotel, which gave wonderful views of the run back down to the town.

The location is great especially if snow conditions are good as we were able to use the little "magic carpet" lift almost opposite to ski down to the gondola station and then ski back down again in the evening and just cross the road and back to the hotel. If hiring equipment, I would certainly recommend Cresseri just down the road towards the gondola station, the friendliest and least stressful experience ever with our large group.

This was our 5th trip to Bormio and on the last few occasions have stayed at the San Lorenzo which is also absolutely fantastic, so if the Genzianella is fully booked that would be a very good alternative.

I can't praise the Genzianella enough it was a lovely place to stay and we look forward to returning one day.

This is a first-rate hotel that is exceptionally priced for the high-quality experience. It is efficiently run, filled with convenient extra amenities, and the family and staff who serve you take personal pride and pleasure in treating guest right.

We loved this place. There were 11 of us on a bicycling tour to northern Italy, so we were kind of grumpy and tired customers. But we were charmed by the kindness of everyone on the staff and by our accommodations at every level. We had been staying in these charming B&B kinds of places before this, and, from the web site photos, we knew this would be a more "ski-chalet-type" place -- in other words, it looked great, but we thought it might lack the "charm" of our stone-house fantasy experience.

Well, just the opposite. Charm on all counts. This is a family-run place, and the family who owns it all go out of their way to make your stay a personal experience.

The place is immaculately clean. And, I have to say something about the food -- unbelievable! The breakfasts -- free with the room -- was truly outstanding, and we ended up eating dinner there two nights after long days on the road over some big hills. We were stunned that "hotel" food could be so good -- AND inexpensive for what we got.

We will return here without question. Maybe that's the best recommendation I can make. But I mean it. For ski-town Italy, this was a fantastic place!
