Staying at the Nuovi Bagni Spa a few miles away (excellent), we opted for a less formal dining option. Al Filo was both recommended by the hotel and also the taxi driver who took us to Bormio. Set below ground in almost a cave, this was an unusual setting. Service and staff knowledge was excellent and they both helped with food and wine choices. We opted for localish red wine (from Tirano). It was good and reasonably priced. Food was excellent and the standout was a dish serving 3 types of meat on a thick wooden skewer. Like an oversized knitting needle! Deer, pork, beef. Very salty indeed, but well cooked. It was accompanied by polenta and we shared some grilled veg. One of our group also had an excellent veggie pasta dish. All in all, great service and well prepared food. If you're in Bormio for one night as we were, this is an excellent choice! If you're there in ski season, I could imagine a lively atmosphere!
