The rooms are okay, the staff is quite friendly but there is not a nice italian atmosphere/ambiance in the bar.

It is all a bit gone glory in the wrong way. The bar is not clean, the windows could use some soap and water etc. etc.

It has a lot of potential because the rooms are fine and the place is excellent, three minutes walking from the lake and close to the medieval center.

Breakfast is not interesting.

There are a great many hotels in Bolsena between which to choose - most of them decidedly shoddy, dodgy, filled with wrinkly Germans on a quick return visit to Europe from Bolivia, Paraguay or other such convenient refuges where they have been rotting for the past seventy-odd years - but few, if any of the establishments offer the happy combination of entirely comfortable and well appointed rooms with the genuine charm, generosity and ancient courtesy of the family who run the Hotel Nazionale. It stands proud as the oldest of all the hostelries in this delightful lakeside town, and has a vastly more distinguished pedigree than all of its competitors, not to mention most of the holiday-makers who come to these shores seeking somewhere pleasant to stay. Alessandro and his wife run and own the hotel, cordially assisted by their son who is immensely obliging and helpful, attending to your every need. Breakfast is served at the bar which is also frequented at all hours of the day by the local population - a clear indicator of the quality of the food and coffee served, which here is of exceptional calibre and in stark contrast to the almost universally dire coffee that is served to witless tourists in the majority of hotels hereabouts. Standing a couple of hundred yards from the lakeside at the top of the handsome boulevard which leads directly to the water's edge, and yet adjacent to the Piazza Centrale, Hotel Nazionale is ideally situated for anyone looking for a lovely place to stay in northern Lazio.

Built in the days when it was fashionable to drive out to the Lake from Rome, there are pictures of the hotel in the 1920's with a petrol pump on the corner. Now it is marooned just outside the town walls with a main road on 3 sides, but thankfully all traffic stopped at about 9.30pm and did not start again until after 7am so I had an excellent night's sleep. The room was very big, old fashioned and spotlessly clean, with a large shower room and a comfortable bed , and a view of the castle from the window. The breakfast spread was significantly better than the average 3-star hotel. The elderly couple and their (?) son who run the hotel and bar are charming, friendly and infailingly helpful, and made what might otherwise have been a rather ordinary hotel experience quite special. Excellent value for a 3star hotel.

We couldn't wait to try this hotel after reading the reviews; but found it a bit disappointing. It is true the older couple that owns it are extremely nice and accomodating but there isn't too much else to rave about. The breakfast coffees were fresh and delicious, but the breakfast buffet was not much to write home about. The room was small but clean and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom was the next problem. It was very hard to regulate the water temperature. The towels were so old and worn thin that they were like gauze pads. They did the job but it was an effort. When it was time to check out the owner made me pay cash, claiming the credit card machine was broken. The photos make the place look better than in real life.

Hotel Nazionale is a wonderful place to have a relaxing weekend; this hotel is situated in the center of Bolsena and it is a few minutes from the lake's walk which is very beautiful!. On the upper part of the city there is a old Castle. Bolsena is very close to Montefiascone, another little city famous for producing wine. Owners are very friendly and hospitable; we had a delicious dinner and breakfast. It was a very nice experience!...Thank you again to the owners!

Hotel Nazionale offers old fashioned hospitality, cleanliness and value for money. The hotel is in a great location: the walk to the lakes is lovely and only takes a few minutes, and the town cneter is even closer. The town Bolsena is a lovely old town, with some great restaurants, nice old buildings and of course, the famous Lago di Bolsena.
Our room was a good size and it was spotless. The beds were good, the bathroom clean and up to date. For breakfast there was a good selection of food, and everything was fresh. Coffees were made there and then. The family who run the hotel are great hosts, they do whatever they can to make you feel welcome. We only had one night here, but we loved it.

Room Tip: In the restaurant, they serve breakfast only. Nothing to worry about, there are plenty of good resta...

The charming small town with a fortress. We stopped for one night. Very hospitable. Italian family owns them. Driving through this town - stay in this hotel and eat and eat at a restaurant across the street. Don't be miss it!

Room Tip: Just smile and be polite.
