“Comfortable hotel and amazing snow”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 5, 2012

This is my second visit to this hotel and again I had a lovely time.

Staff are very friendly and helpful, food is acceptable (improved since my last visit) and I ate well every day. Meal times were very entertaining, especially with the dessert trolley!

The bedrooms were basic but clean and tidy. Bar prices were reasonable and although the bar area could do with some improvements, the set up of the lounge ensured that it was a very social able area.

We went in February when we had loads of snow - the skiing condititions were brilliant although on some days got as low as -19! Ski bus is just outside the hotel but we invariably walked to the Campo Smith area - nice warm up!

Would highly recommend this hotel as although basic, it is great value for money and have friendly and helpful staff

We were a party of five skiers who go together every year. We bought our holiday a couple of weeks before we went and it was amazing value.
The hotel was warm, clean and the staff were polite and helpfull. The public area was spacious and relaxing and the bar was good value. The hotel was situated close to the station and main street, the slopes were a short frequent bus ride away, which was no problem. There was wifi in the rooms which were clean but small. The food was variable- fairly standard continental breakfast and four course evening meal, which had some rather odd courses. The plates were always cold which didn't help.
Yes I would go there again, it was a very good hotel on a budget.

Whilst a late deal booking recently posted reviews read were very encouraging and proved to be well justified.
The staff were very pleasant and helpful. Public areas spacious and comfortable
Bedroom was adequate and bathroom was kept spotless and well supplied with fresh towels.
Food was very acceptable and much in keeping with other such 3Star-rated establishments – ‘Italian’ – varied vegetables with potatoes a rarity and no chips or pizza. Evening courses were selected at breakfast from a 3 options menu.
Reasonable bar prices + the free wi-fi were welcome features for us silver-skier ‘techno-phobes’.
With bus stop to main ski area (Campo Smith etc) at the front of the hotel and just around the corner to connect with Jafferau + close to town centre – well served and positioned.
With sunshine + warm temps every-day pisteurs did well to keep runs open.

The hotel is very basic. We had been twice before and it seemed even more tired than before. The first rooms we were given were very worn and dated. Tiny and in a very bad state. Holes in the walls, furniture etc. Very tatty old duvet covers. We asked to move rooms as the rooms we were given would not fit a cot in. We were moved immediately to better rooms, still very basic but not as bad. Walls are paper thin, can hear everything from your neighbours.
Upon arrival we were told we would have to pay 10 euros PER NIGHT for a travel cot for the baby?! We complained about this immediately to our Neilson rep, who was not very helpful at all, just told us we didn't have to take the cot and it was 'standard procedure'. Very poor attitude. Did not offer to see if there was any way of reducing this charge. When we booked the holiday I rang Neilson to request a cot, they told me there was a small chance that there could be a SMALL local charge, but it was very unlikely. 70 euros for a cot is not a small charge. I paid less for my ski & boot hire for the week! The cot was very tatty, torn on the sides and was not made in the mornings. The signs on the hotel doors also stated no charge for extra beds, and no mention of a charge for a cot, surely a cot is just an extra bed for a child?
Service at the hotel was very mixed. Staff on reception were very good and helpful. Service at dinner was poor. We were only offered drinks on the first night, after that not at all. One night they brought our main courses out while we were still eatings our starters.
Food was mixed. Salad was quite good. Main courses/starters were bizarre concoctions. However we did ask a couple of times to have pasta and tomato/bolognaise sauce instead and they did this for us.
Nice big lobby area to sit in. Free Wifi.
Good location. Free ski bus to the slopes right outside the hotel. Five minute walk to the village.
Skiing in Bardonecchia is best for beginners and intermediates. Nice range of easy blues and reds.
If you're going to book this hotel make sure you get a good deal. Don't spend more than £300 per person on it. (Flights, transfers and half board accommodation.) Most people spent between £235 and £300. Book last minute! Your Thomas Cook agent will match the Neilson web price for you if you ask.

Room Tip: Rooms on the second floor seem to be the tattier ones. When we moved to the third floor these were b...

This is a basic, but clean and friendly hotel. It receives many bad reviews, which are unfair in my view. The hotel is very good value for money. The family atmosphere is created by having a lovely large seating area, which means everyone mingles and gets to know each other. Bus stop is outside the hotel and the main shopping area is within walking distance.

Excellent hotel! I read reviews of this hotels and was a little worried...scruffy, small rooms leaky showers etc. No its not 5 star luxury in looks but I could not fault any aspect of this hotel. It was exceptionally clean the staff were unbelievably friendly and helpful. The food was amazing, four courses, buffet starter then course one, pasta, risotto or soup, course two meat, fish or vegetarian option then a choice of three deserts! We were in a party of six and all our rooms were very good. Rooms, showers and toilets were cleaned everyday and clean towels provided. The bar was comfy and welcoming and very reasonably priced. We stayed at the Betulla for a skiing holiday it was ideally situated as the bus stops for the slopes was directly outside we never waited more that 5 minutes. Bardonecchia is a beautiful town, I would go back summer or winter and would definitely stay at the Betulla again.

Room Tip: Get one at the front with a balcony if possible, great for catching the afternoon sun. twin rooms at...

Yes it's 2 star, yes our room was a bit small, yes the shower leaked a bit, but there was plenty of hot water, we had a balcony to dry kit on in the sunshine, the food was hot and plentyfull. The staff were all very nice, but a little slow to fetch the next course through, or it was in front of you as soon as you finished the last one.
Would I go there again.... Yes if the price were the same again!
The ski bus stops outside (but it's only a 5 min wander after the bus stops at 17-30), the kit room is big enough for all the skis etc.
I've paid more for worse, so i'd go again!
