There is nothing more to say about the wonderful Nettuno hotel that has not already been said, except thankyou to each and everyone of the staff for making our holiday fabulous. We hope you get your shoulder sorted Loris.
Bardolino is a great base for visiting attractions ie Verona which is a 45 minute bus ride on a public bus which you can catch at the top of the street, just buy your ticket from the tobacconist half way down the main street in Bardolino. Venice is a must but I would recommend going on an organised trip. We were going to make our own way there by bus, train and boat but decided to go with thompsons which was a wise desiciion.
The winery is another good place to go to which is about a 25min walk away from the hotel, hare you get a look at how the wine was made and how it is done now. Entry is free and there are 6 white and 6 red wines for free. You pay 1.5 euros a glass to taste other wines. We bought 2 bottles at the end which are fantastic in taste.
There are much more places to go and see so why not pack a bag and pay a visit to this wonderful hotel and location. Enjoy your stay. From room 205.

Stayed here for 10 nights july 7 to 17 chose hotel mainly due to excellent reviews on trip advisor and was not disapppointed. hotel is not particularly modern but it has a charm of its own. the staff and the food make the hotel special. loris you can tell truly enjoys his job and has a pride in the hotel which is evident in all that he does. all of the staff must be complimented on their friendliness and efficiency of service. the air conditioning in the rooms is quiet but second to none and it was certainly needed and a welcome relief during our stay when temperatures reached 40c plus and not a drop of rain the whole time. waiter service during dinner is an extra bonus. bardolino is a lovely flat resort and is a short transfer time from verona aiport. it is ideally placed to visit several of the resorts by ferry or bus and it is a very pleasant walk along the lake front in either direction to garda or lazise. also city day trips easliy accessible to verona and venice although the extreme heat did mean that we probably did not make the most of our visits there. will definitely return to italy/lake garda again and you cannot go wrong with the nettuno if you like a quiet friendly hotel with few if any children staying. julie and david room 311

Reading these reviews on Hotel Nettuno you might suspect the staff wrote them, but in fact they're all true. My wife and I just returned from a 10 day stay and we liked pretty much everything about this hotel.

To give some balance, here are a couple of negatives: emails and a phone call before departure requesting a balcony resulted in us being allocated no balcony but instead a lake view (at no extra charge, depsite what the website says!); they never did get round to fixing the slightly wonky loo seat; and as has been mentioned elsewhere the WiFi is too expensive at 4 Euros an hour (free would be better, surely it costs the hotel nearly nothing). So there's nothing of substance to complain about at all.

On the plus side the hotel is trim and well cared for but it's the staff who make it special. Everyone is just great. Are they on happy pills? The star is Loris, the Head Waiter. I hope the owners have tied him in with share options or similar golden handcuffs because he really is as professional as the other reviewers claim. There are never any dramas and nothing seems too much trouble. Example: my wife is not fond of most vegetables but likes pasta so she got off-menu spaghetti carbonara or those little meat-filled capelletti as a starter instead of the endless series of interesting fishy, cheesy, and veggie morsels I crammed down my uneducated palate. If you like your grub then Loris and his team will give you a feast every night of your stay.

We went on a package with Thomson/Crystal and they were fine. In view of their no-quibble volcanic ash cover, the tiny amount we might have saved by making our own arrangements didn't seem worth it.

Visited the Nettuno for an 11 Night stay on the recommendation of a friend. This was the most relaxing holiday we've had in a long time. The Nettuno is located on the north end of Bardolino with an easy 5 minute walk into the town centre.
A few minor negatives to get rid of first; it's a small sun terrace around the pool and more umbrellas would be good. During our stay, the air-con in the public areas wasn't great. Less than half the rooms have full lake views, and a similar number don't have balconies. We travelled on a package deal with Thomson and they don't offer the facility to upgrade to a lake view and/or balcony, although we were fortunate in that the hotel allocated us a room with a small balcony.
Now for the plus points (which really 'make' this hotel). The reception staff are efficient and welcoming. The restaurant waitresses and the bar staff are super-efficient and super-friendly. Loris, the Maitre'd, is fantastic; nothing is too much trouble. If in doubt, follow his recommendations for food and wine. His sense of humour, efficiency and friendliness are great assets. It may put some people off having to choose your dinner menu at breakfast but the food is excellent, served piping hot and efficiently. We always found options on the menu that we liked.
The bedrooms are well maintained and kept very clean by the housekeeping staff. Each room has a free safe and a mini-bar. Our room air-con was excellent.
We would have no hesitation in recommending the Nettuno to couples looking for a relaxing holiday in a friendly hotel with good food and wine. The Nettuno and Bardolino make a great base to visit the many lakeside towns or, further afield, Venice and Florence. We hope to return next year.

Staying 3rd - 10th July 2010
Right, this is my first trip adviser review (albeit, I did write one for Hotel Nettuno during lunch today and promptly lost it as I didn't create an account first!) So all the witty remarks you're gonna here are sounding somewhat less original to me now as I try to recall my monologue...

Firstly, 99% the other reviews are far more accurate and useful in terms of the minute detail regarding Hotel Nettuno - please read them.

This review has a simple message - if you put quality of service as your priority for your selection of hotel rather than style over content, then my friends Nettuno is for you! Now, I'll say a few words about Loris the maitre'd - he is the heartbeat of the hotel, underpinned by a young and genuinely friendly restaurant and bar staff. In fact all staff are happy in their work, from the maintenance guys and cleaners to the hotel manager himself. But Loris is the Don, with carisma and comedy timing without being cheesey. He has a professional efficient manner but makes an effort for every guest to feel special, and is a natural when breaking the ice with new guests without coming across too familiar.

Our party consisted of my wife, myself, our 23 month old girl Poppy (who anyone staying during 3rd - 10th of July would remember!) and also my wife's parents.
From the moment we arrived Loris and the other staff couldn't have been more pleasant, especially and most importantly when concerning my little girl. - No problem at all if we wanted to arrange an earlier time for her to eat.
The food as you will read from others in far more detail is excellent, with plenty of variety to satisfy all tastes, 5 well proportioned courses at dinner with excellent waitress service - Grazie Millie Sara for your service!

Any niggles - I would be nit picking if I said the bathrooms were a little small (only a shower which was fun with Poppy at bathtime) however, I can't remember the last holiday I spent raving about the impressive size of bathroom.
Also, the pool is quite small, I did feel a little self conscious on the first couple of days, playing with my little girl with the obvious shreaks and laughter you get from a toddler splashing about. A larger pool with a childrens area better placed than it is currently would probably be a benefit to all. That said, it is what it is which was fine as not many people used the pool.

All in all, a great holiday, Lake Garda has everything for a family of all ages, and Bardolino is a great base to explore from, as well as simply enjoying the town itself. It is great for promenading and relaxing in the many osterias and cafes. Nettuno is ideally located in this regard for a quick stroll into Bardolino or a longer walk along the edge of the lake to Garda itself.

Will we go back is not the question, rather when?...probably next year, if not most definately the year after, but what is certain is that Loris will stil be there, and with the growing number of people making annual pilgrimages to Hotel Nettuno, this can mean only one thing...book earlier to avoid disappointment!

Ciao - Gareth, Dionne and Poppy and Ray and Jeanette

We stayed at Hotel Nettuno between 26th June & 10th July 2010. It was our second stay in Bardolino but the first time at this hotel.

Hotel Nettuno is located next to the shore of Lake Garda at the northern end of Bardolino. The centre of the town is no more than a 10 minute walk from the hotel, slightly longer if one takes the more scenic promenade along the lake. A gentle 30 minute stroll in the opposite direction leads to the picturesque town of Garda.

While our room may have appeared a little dated, all areas are kept meticulously clean throughout. Our bathroom was clean and modern, having a shower unit that provided ample water pressure at a fairly constant temperature. The room itself was, thankfully, air conditioned, providing a welcome respite from the 30+ temperatures outside. The room was also exceptionally quiet - no earplugs necessary. The bar and lounge areas are both spacious and comfortable. Dinner is served in the stylish and spotlessly clean internal dining area, whilst breakfast is served on the outside terrace which enjoys views of the lake.

Food at this hotel is truly excellent. Breakfast is the usual buffet style with cereals, selection of cheeses and cold meat, pastries, fresh fruit, and hot food comprising sausages, mushrooms, scrambled eggs, and bacon. The evening meal, which one selects from a menu at breakfast time, comprises a salad buffet, a starter, a choice of first main courses, a choice of second main courses and finally a dessert. Apart from the salad buffet, the meal is served by a waitress, and we never had to wait more than a few minutes for each course to be served. During our two week stay we were never served the same dish twice, and we never had yearnings to eat at another restaurant.

Any review of this particular hotel would be incomplete without mentioning the wonderful staff. The reception staff, bar staff (Mariani, Paola, Julia), and the dining room staff (Sara, Eva and others) worked exceptionally hard, remaining friendly and helpful at all times. In particular, Loris the Maitre d', with his professionalism and eye for detail kept the dining area running smoothly and efficiently. His wonderful sense of humour and rapport with the guests kept us all informed and entertained during our stay, and his friendly banter helped break the ice between guests.

In summary we've thoroughly enjoyed our vacation and would definitely put Hotel Nettuno on the top of our list when considering future vacation destinations. Steve & Sandra (Room 124)

This hotel is a gem and it's all down to the staff!

The hotel is small and quite dated in places, the clientele are, shall we say, "mature" in the main but don't let any of it put you off. the rooms are a reasonable size and very clean, it seems that the bathrooms have been updated, showers have decent water pressure, which is always a good sign!

The pool area is quite small but never seemed over full as most people go out for the day, Garda is not the place to go just to lay in the sun. there are lots of pretty towns and villages on the shores of the lake all accessible either by bus (take the timetable with a pinch of salt) or via one of the many water taxis (which run immaculately to time) this is the best way as you get some stunning views.

The food is excellent although the menu is not huge it is always easy to find a suitable choice, it changes daily and rotates fortnightly and seasonally, it is unlikely you would be disappointed, apart from a salad bar all dinner full service, be aware though you are expected to choose your dinner at breakfast time!

Waiting staff are 1st class, some have been there a while and are effortlessly efficient, a couple are new and add something extra, Lisa especially is eager to please and will happily go out of her way to make life easier and better for you.

I guess no review is complete without mention of Loris, he is truly the reason the hotel does so well, the whole place revolves around him, his language skills are superb, it is difficult to "get" humour in a foreign language - especially sarcasm and innuendo - but he has the ability, seemingly in several languages!. he also is a font of knowledge about the lake helped by the fact the is local and from the next town.

what would improve things? simply a lick of paint here and there, also free wifi would be a bonus as opposed to the charged version available in reception.

In truth I wasn't sure what to expect, holidays tend to be 5* all inclusive in the Caribbean or far east, but I was pleasantly surprised.. I would go back in a heartbeat!
