My husband and I booked a standard room in main building and according to Thomsons brochure, included safe, air con and mini bar. The room did not have a mini bar and when I told the rep, she said they were only in superior rooms. I just wish I had the brochure page with me to show her! Not that there would have been space in the room for even a tiny fridge as it was a VERY small room. Impossible to both get ready and dressed at the same time, very limited storage space too so had to leave many of our clothes in the suitcases. Having said that, the air con worked fabulously which was just as well as the temperatures were in mid thirties and rising. And the bar staff supplied glasses or buckets of ice whenever we asked. The safe was free, a bonus these days when so many 4 and 5 star hotels charge. The room was spotlessly clean, as was the whole hotel.
We found the staff to be friendly-even reception (despite some reviews I've read). The food was fine, lovely fresh fruit at breakfast and the evening meals (which I'd been worried about after reading some of the reviews on Trip Advisor) were on the whole very tasty, especially the pasta dishes. The desserts were limited but we could cope with that.
Many guests there had been back year after year, 12 and 13 times in the case of the couples we sat next to for meals! We didn't find a problem with the table arrangements as it was nice to chat and get tips from fellow guests.
The pool area was good, never a problem with obtaining sunbeds.
The hotel is in a fantastic location in the beautiful town of Bardolino. Plenty of shops and restaurants and easy to catch the ferries to other towns around the lake. The free occasional concerts given on the steps of the church were fabulous and well recommended.
We never go back to the same place twice-too many places to see in the world. But would have no hesitation recommending this hotel in this resort.

Room Tip: If you're not willing to pay the high supplements for superior rooms, be assured that the small...

This hotel in Bardolino was very central. Food was just ok but service was excellent. Waiters and waitresses were very friendly. Rooms were basic but clean and towels changed every day. Lake Garda is beautiful and all the resorts we visited on the Lake were lovely. Would recommend Bardolino, Lake Garda to everyone.

Wonderful setting. Amazingly clean hotel. Sadly owners/reception staff have no customer sevice skills. They were curt to the point of rudeness. Rest of staff polite & helpful.
Rooms in the new annexe,on the rear of the building ,on the 3rd floor are a decent size with good balcony & views.
But beware of rooms on the rear, on the 1st floor. The balcony looks straight into a busy, noisy bar, room is cramped & should not be sold as superior.
The only ground floor room 101, looks into the car park.

When we arrived at 11.30am at hotel we were told to leave our cases in public area and that room would not be ready until 2.30pm. That didn't bother us too much but I think it would be nice for hotel to offer guests a complimentary tea, coffee or soft drink on arrival if they cannot get into their room and a smile perhaps. We booked our 11nights stay through Thomson. We paid an extra £374.00 supplement for superior room. Our room was the only room in hotel on ground floor in the annexe which looked straight onto parked cars. We asked if we could be moved to a room on any of the three floors above but were told by reception that rooms above us were for customers who had booked lake view. Our room was a large room and spotlessly clean but looked straight into parked cars . Breakfast was good and the staff in the dining room were very friendly. My complaint like others is that we had to share a table . We later learned that its only people with lake and pool views that had tables to themselves., despite the fact that we were paying such a high supplement. The staff at the hotel were all very friendly apart from the owners of course! I
The only way I would return to Hotel Catullo would be if I could pre-book a room with lake or pool view as we found out when there that is what people had done and they had not paid any more for it. I think all guests should be offered their own table at breakfast as that is another thing that guests are complaining about in a lot of reviews.
I think if the owners addressed the issues that customers are raising, Hotel Catullo could be one of thebest hotels in Bardolino. It has the perfect location.

This hotel was a gem for us and all the others that were there last week that we spoke to.
We had taken note of all previous reviews so stayed band b and requested a side room with lake and pool view and balcony and our own table at breakfast.
Unbelievingly clean - they hoovered the already spotless balcony every day !
Lovely pool area. Comfortable and cosy lounge, bar etc. Staff very warm and friendly and helpful.
Great food in restaurant at front. Drinks expensive in all restaurants we thought.
Location - best in Bardolino -and Bardolino upmarket and with buzz but with loads of character and culture.
We booked with Inghams - everything ran smoothly. Local rep obviously very well informed. When someon asked her at the Welcome Meeting if they could hire a boat on the lake she said that they could but that she wouldn't advise it and refused to tell us why. We were all intrigued.... Can anyone enlighten us ??
There were a couple of families with young babies there. They seemed happy enough but I wouldn't have taken my children to that hotel when they were young - not enough space indoors or outdoors by the pool to be able to occupy them safely. Definitely for couples of all ages or families with older children.
We are already sorting dates and planning for next year. 11 days next time - same hotel undoubtedly.

Room Tip: Side room with balcony and lake view but this was a standard room. Rooms in annex bigger apparently...

This is the 3rd time that we have been to Bardolino and the Hotel Catullo was the Hotel which we always wanted to stay in - what a big mistake!! We arrived at 1130 am and were told that we would be unable to check in until 2pm, when we questioned this we were told it was because they had 25 guests which had checked out that morning so they were very busy!! From experience the cleaners come round to clean the rooms anytime from 8am onwards so why the weren't ready is a mystey. We had breakfast 3 times out of the 2 weeks which we there and this wasn't anything to shout about either, the owners were the 2 most miserable people we have ever met and were only interested in speaking to you in the last couple of days.........
Having booked through Crystal finest brochure you would expect the standard of the hotel and service provided by its staff to be commensurate with the brochure description - unfortunately this was not the case, this hotel should be advertised as a restaurant with accommotion not the other way around, with hotel guests playing second fiddle to the restaurant guests.
We enjoyed sitting in the garden at the end the day with a drink, however on more occassions than not we had to wait in excess of 1/2 hour for them to arrive, when we questioned where they were the staff were all to eager to pass the book.
The resort itself is beautiful and can't be faulted and we will definitely return in the future but definitely not to this hotel.
And now for the thomson rep, our initial transfer to the resort was a quiet affair, not the usual welcome speeches from the rep but only a short scripted paragraph, containing instructions for us to score the reps a healthy 7 out of 10 on the departure questionaire, and by her own admission this was to eliminate the paperwork for a poorer score.......we hadnt even landed at the hotel.
Our welcome meeting was planned for the morning after at 9.30, we attended only to find that no one was ther. we later found out that the venue had changed still within the hotel but with no indication or instruction posted to inform us.
Our rep, was supposed to be available each day with a supplementary meeting point on certain lunch times at the local yacht bar, not once were the reps where they were supposed to be.
Giving up all hope of seeing the reps we went about our holiday, hoping that we didnt need their help..................I only hope that the passengers on the ill fated Lasize by night tour were treated a little better!!!!!!!!
I think you get the idea.
We will return to Bardolino but will book in at the 4 Stagioni or the Idania.

Room Tip: book at the Quattro Stagioni!!!!!

I have to say i totally agree with Paula on this one. The hotel is in a great location of a wonderful resort. In fact you couldn't ask for better. Bardolino itself is stunning. Unfortunately the staff and food of the Catullo were a disgrace.

We stayed for a week half board in a superior room.

We had an awesome holiday and would definitely return to Bardolino and Lake Garda, it is magnificent, but just wouldn't stay at the Catullo.

The food at dinner time was an absolute joke. It was akin to the sort of muck served up at a school canteen. After 4 nights we gave up and just went out for dinner, despite having paid for half board. I just cannot believe anyone could say the dinner meals were good, they were disgraceful!! Of the 3 courses per night over a 4 night period (so thats 12 courses), only 1 was nice; the lasagne. I must say the waitresses in the half-board dining room were brilliant, the only helpful and approachable members of staff in the place.

I believe the owners of the hotel are a couple, and a more rude, ignorant, and obnoxious couple you could never meet. Why they bother working in the hospitality trade is besides me! It started when the lady told us we couldnt check in until 2pm, so basically go away for 2 hours. Then we werent aware we had to wear trousers to dinner, that wasnt a problem, we went up and changed straightaway, but the way in which we were refused entry in our shorts was unbelievable. Then it was as if the man tried to start a fight with me as i had the "cheek" to sit at a table in the front restaurant to order a drink. I was chased out of the place as the front restaurant is not for half board guests, presumably because they dont want us to see the good food they serve out there.

However, despite this hotel, i had an amazing time in Bardolino, and will definitely return very soon. What an incredible place. I only got home about 36 hours ago and i'm already missing the place.

JUST DO NOT STAY AT THE CATULLO!

Room Tip: We stayed in a superior suite in the new annexe. It looked over a restaurant to the rear, and had a...
