“Loved Park Gritti”
Reviewed September 14, 2008

My friend and I stayed at Park Gritti for a week and we had a wonderful time. We stayed half board and it was worth it! The food was lovely and there was a choice of 3 restaurants- the gourmet restaurant is great however you need to arrive at the start of the sitting to get a seat as it gets busy quickly ( no pre booking is required). The rooms are clean if not a bit basic however the pool, facilities and location make up for it. The swimming pool is big, the hotel is right next to the lake and is filled with friendly staff - the walk into Bardolino is also only 5 mins. We had a great holiday !

Have recently returned from our fifth stay at the Gritti, and realised why we keep coming back.
I had read many negative comments about the hotel on Trip Advisor prior to this trip and assumed that something disastrous had occurred since last time, so we expected the worst.
We had a fabulous week - the weather helped - and although the air conditioning failed at the start, this was fixed after a couple of days.(In our experience, there is always some kind of problem with the aircon).
The only changes that I could see since our last visit was slighly less choice in the restaurant, and no more fruit baskets in the rooms (chocolates and water instead). The food was good though and plentiful.
The water in the swimming pool was crystal clear, and we had no problem at all finding beds even on the hottest days.(44 celsius on our last day)
Bardolino itself was an absolute pleasure as always and we will return without any hesitation next year.

Our first time to Italy so no other italian hotels to compare it with. It is not 4 star by some international standards but over would I recommend it - YES.

It is a bit tired and the room smelled of cigarette smoke. The food was good and the staff were helpful.

I would go here again as it is right on the front and a great location for walking into town on a night.

A good size pool.

Having read the reviews we were expecting the very worst. We booked extremely last minute via Teletext Holidays and were not sure what to expect but having visited Lake Garda before and having felt that a previous hotel was misrepresented on this site, we thought we would be OK. This is our 3rd time to Lake Garda but this was the first time to the Southern part of the Lake.

This hotel is not the Ritz, nor had we paid for such so were not expecting it. Yes, the hotel is a bit tired and in need of a refurb in some areas (the bathrooms have very 80's colour schemes, as do the bedrooms). However, overall the hotel is clean, the food in the restaurants is fine, buffets on offer in the restaurants are varied and the waiters in the buffet venues are polite and attentive. Special mention has to made of one of them who went out of his way to entertain and charm the elderly residents and worked 7 days a week! Both my wife and I had a great holiday at this hotel, and it's not that we are not fussy - we have stayed in far worse places (see my review of the Sea View in Malta!) than this but given the price we paid and the standard of hotel that we were more than happy. This hotel does attract an older clientelle but there were plenty of couples in their 30's as well. There were not that many kids which meant it was fairly quiet which was exactly what we were hoping for. We don't have kids yet and so don't want to hear other peoples children running and screaming around the pool.

Other things that were great about the hotel were...

Sparkling Wine, water and chocolates in the room on arrival.
Tea/Coffee and cakes every afternoon at 4pm, free of charge.
Air Con which was on all the time, thankfully as the temperature was high all week during our stay.
Large , clean pool with free towels and comfortable sunbeds.
No fighting over sunbeds - always plenty available.
There were slippers and clean, good quality bathrobes in our room.
There was plenty of hot water all the time.
Free aperitif every night before dinner.
We were there for a public holiday - Assumption of the Virgin - and so there was a special dinner with pre-dinner drinks and snacks, followed by a special post dinner buffet of desserts and pastries by the pool, plus more free sparkling wine. The post dinner buffet was fabulous!
Lovely 3 minute lakeside walk to resort centre.

The not so good, but were things that didn't really bother us...

Lots of Pork as the main carvery meat, but lots of other choices in the rest of the buffet.
Waiter service in the non buffet restaurant was poor on one of the two nights we ate there.
Drinks a bit expensive but this is Lake Garda and the £ is weak against the Euro.
The entertainment was a little lacklustre and not to our taste but whenever we go on holiday we don't really go for the entertainment.

Overall, we felt we got we paid for. Italy and Lake Garda is not cheap but it is stunning. The hotel is fine and tries to make up for it's flaws with little touches. If you want better you will have to pay for it. If you want loud, rowdy and raucous then this is not for you.

  • Liked — That is wasn't as bad as the reviews on Trip Advisor made out.
  • Disliked — The grey and yellow tiles in the bathroom.

We have just returned from this hotel yesterday. we got a good deal, as did many others we met. We paid just over half the Inghams brochure price and were very pleased for this time of the year. The hotel is big and has no character as such, but it was always clean and the staff were friendly enough. I always find if you smile at people they smile back, even the lady in the pool bar that other people have mentioned. I don't know if I could be constantly happy working 7 long days a week! Our room was quite spacious and looked out over the side opposite to the lake. we had a balcony and the sun in the morning. The position is excellent, the walk on the promenade to the centre was 3 minutes. We tried all the restaurants and preferred the self service where the waiters were very busy but always polite. As we had such a good deal we sometimes ate out in the town for the atmosphere. I would not have considered this a 4star if I had paid full price. They seem to rate them by the facilities, which we never use. But if you like pools,(it was clean,)and sitting in the sun it's for you. WE found the entertainment not to our taste but we couldn't hear it in our room. The pluses are the position, good air conditioning which we needed as it was 30+ last week, free water and kettle etc clean rooms and very helpful staff on reception.

Although we were a little concerned over some of the reviews given on this site, our travel agent assured us that this hotel had received one of their 'Gold Medals' which are not given out lightly. Well unfortunately this site proved to be correct, although the pool area is lovely and also very clean, our hotel room and balcony area needed a thorough clean. In general the hotel needs bringing up to date it looks very tired and not at all what we expected from a 4* hotel. The hotel food was very poor qualtiy although the restaurants were very clean and the staff in general very polite and cheerful.
Although the hotel states it has air conditioning this is also in need of a thorough overall as the unit in our room was very substandard. In all not somewhere I would recommend to anyone.
