My wife said after we left Cisano Camping, that usually you are sad to pack your bags at the end of a stay. At Cisano we couldn't leave quick enough.
From the room information sheet it clearly states that Cisano Camping is a 4*, and in the high season costs €42 a night.
We arrived at the end of August for three nights in the Cisano rooms, we were two adults and two children aged 3 and 6.
Looking back alarm bells should have rung when I realise that they don't have pictures of rooms on the website, there is only a photo retouched image from outside, I say retouched because there is a grass lawn on the left of the pic which is not there and in reality and I'm sure that it never could have been from looking at how it is, just a brown scrub with tree roots sticking up. It is in fact the car park for those staying there.
The Cisano apartment block is a very run down set of rooms which, to be frank it reminds me of something you might see in a film where you pay for the room by the hour.
The first jaw dropping moment came when we noticed on entering the room that the entrance door has a glass inner, granted it wasn't a clear glass pane but obviously it beggars belief that Cisano camping would think that on a privacy and security level this would be ok. The other problem related to this was that the landing light was directly outside our room so if we were sleeping and someone switched the light on it would illuminate the room. They did though thoughtfully leave a piece of cord across the top of the door so that we could make our own curtain.. what fun! See what we made in the attached pic. Also worth noting is that the light is not on a timer and has only one on and off point at the entrance so quite I woke up in the middle of the night to switch off the landing light that someone had left on.
We moved in just after it was cleaned. Cleaned is a stretch here as we spent a good while afterwards removing all the dead insects from the floors and surfaces.
There seems to be a problem with damp in the room as you can see from the attached pictures. You can easily make out the markings on the walls and ceiling from where black mould was removed and then left unpainted. This is emphasised by the black guttering in around the shower and the tiling.
The fittings in the room, shower, sink taps etc would be more at home on a tip, in the picture you can clearly see the taps have lost their colour completely and leak.
The shower is possessed! The cold tap brings hot water the hot tap cold. If you manage to get the water at a good temperature more often than not right at the worst moment it would flip to very cold or boiling hot. Not so good when you have a three year old.
The mattresses in the room were filthy and blood stained and desperately need to be changed, we all awoke each day with insect bites.
The position of the block puts it right next to the main lake road, which has constant traffic all day and well into the night. Because there is no air conditioning in the room you will be forced to open the windows to get some fresh air, make sure you have a anti-mosquito device. For a four star you might expect a better position or at least double glazing to cut out the noise and air conditioning.
We asked if any other areas of the camp site were free, we even asked Thomson al fresco if they had any rooms but everything was booked solid. We tried local b&b's but in such short notice none could accommodate us.
So we tried to put a positive light on the situation and tried not to think too much about it so we quickly got dressed to go to the pool. Surely that would be a different story. Wrong. The three pools all had broken floors, peeling paint and were very dirty. The smaller pool, which we assume was for small children had lumps of black-brown floating algae in it. The jacuzzi next to that pool was empty, which was a good job as all the water jets were black with algae.
We ate one night at the restaurant by the lake which was ok and the prices were in line with the area.
After we ate we stopped by the stage to see the entertainment that evening which was karaoke. I found this quite tedious and not very inventive as all the staff had to do was set up the deck and the guests did the rest.
The next day we went to make our breakfast in the communal kitchen. As you can see from the image the gas hobs are distributed around the room with a double sink in one corner.
Most of the gas hobs don't work. The sinks are very very old much like the bathroom fitting, the white enamel has worn away to show the bald base of the sinks. Areas on the worktops between the hobs the white formica covering has come away to reveal the MDF.
Last year we stayed in a 4* campsite in Corsica, with a clean pool, well maintained, modern clean rooms and good entertainment.
We had none of these at Cisano.
