“Geoff the Chef returns”
Reviewed October 23, 2012

We went to this restaurant three years ago when it was under a different owner, and when we went back this year, we used it for the seven days. Fabio the Chef is still there, the food was still excellent, with a very good choice, including fish, grills and pasta. The staff were lively, friendly and efficient. The location is good, make sure that you go to the right restaurant, as there are two that share the same courtyard. We were made very welcome and would highly recommend this restaurant.

“Good, simple food”
Reviewed September 11, 2012

Simple but delicious was the name of the game here. Tucked in amongst the list of tourist staples are some interesting dishes (often involving horse or donkey) and it seemed as though it was going to be a place where the kitchen knew what it was about. And it did.

Bruschetta was light and fresh. A toasted slice topped with chopped cherry tomatoes, mozzarella, garlic and basil. Tasted fine, although the quantity of the topping was a bit miserly.

Fried porcini were the centrepiece of the other plate, topped with shavings of Parmesan. Alongside, a good dollop of a stiffish polenta. As always here, the polenta was served plainer than I would cook it at home ( where lashing of butter and cheese would go in). An easy dish. And absolutely superb – the earthiness of the mushrooms and the saltiness of cheese balancing with the bland polenta (so what do I know about cooking it, eh?).

For mains, sea bass split open; the central skeletal bone removed and the fish quickly grilled. On the other plate, two thin slices of veal escalope, dressed with a little Marsala sauce. Served as contorni, a plate of grilled vegetables and another of peperonata (the latter perhaps being the most delicious thing we ate – with the rich sweetness of tomato fully complementing the peppers.

“Delicious food, friendly atmosphere and good service”
Reviewed August 30, 2012

Our annual holiday to Bardolino always includes evening meals at the Biri Restaurant. Having visited Bardolino for over 10 years we have found the Biri to be the best restaurant in Bardolino. The Biri is ideally situated in the centre of the old town. The staff are friendly and welcoming. We enjoy sitting outside in the courtyard but there is also an indoor restaurant. The Biri has an extensive menu including some delicious meat and fish dishes in addition to traditional pasta. The grilled trout and steak are particular favourites. We shall definately be seeing everyone at the Biri again in October this year.

“Excellent Restaurant”
Reviewed August 27, 2012

We spent last week in Bardolino and eat twice at the Biri - each time we were made very welcome and the food was superb as well as being well-priced. Marcello and his staff were really friendly and helpful, and on one visit our table gave us a view into the kitchen which was spotless! Bardolino has a good range of eating places but the Biri must rank as one of the best if not the best.

“Good Food, pity about the staff”
Reviewed July 7, 2012

This restaurant is situated in a courtyard with another restaurant La Porta beside it and both are constantly fighting over passers by for their custom. Initially this was fun to watch but it soon became boring and no love is lost between the two front people. We ate here on one occasion and found the staff unfriendely and disinterested in us. I ordered the house recommneded steak with mushrooms and potatoes and the steak was a generous size and the flavour of it and the myshrooms was very good. The centre of the steak could have been more cooked for my liking but because it was so large a portion I had enough in the more cooked portion. At no stage during our meal did anyone ask us if it was ok. Only when we were clearly finished did the waiter look at the steak peices that were still on my plate and ask if there was something wrong, and when i said thye were not cooked enough he then offered to cook them more which I declined. So we did not go back there again mainly because of the attitude of the staff.
